Did Barack Obama Call Sarah Palin a Pig?
While talking about John McCain recently Barack Obama said, ” you can put lipstick on a pig, but it’s still a pig”, but what did he mean by this and why did he say it? This is not a new expression, but it is an interesting choice of words for him to use, isn’t it? The timing seems very suspect since Sarah Palin’s speech last week included a joke about a hockey mom being a pitbull with lipstick.
Barack Obama listed several reasons why he believes a John McCain presidency would be a third Bush term and he mocked McCain for suggesting he would be change, then he used that phrase. In context the phrase conveniently fits so that Barack Obama could deny any ulterior motives for the comment. But was this comment so innocent?
It seems odd that this phrase was dragged out less than one week after Palin’s infamous lipstick joke. The timing of the phrase with what Obama said just before leaves the door open to several interpretations.
Perhaps he was just using an old expression to say that John McCain can call for change but he is no agent of change no matter how he tries to spin it. That is what the Obama camp would have you believe.
Perhaps he was calling Sarah Palin the “lipstick” that would dress up the McCain campaign and make it appear as if the campaign was something that it isn’t.
Or perhaps he was using the line as a direct personal attack on Sarah Palin and his statements before the phrase were just a way to soften the backlash.
I do not believe that this was a direct attack on Sarah Palin but I do believe that he was trying to fire a shot at Palin. He was not calling Palin a pig but he did use that phrase for a reason. You can’t convince me that it was just a coincidence that Obama decided to use that phrase. The use of that phrase was intentional because he knew that it would be taken as a dig on Palin by his audience, however his campaign didn’t think about how this would play to other voters and the ramifications that it could have. Or they did and decided that it would be easy to deny because of his comments before he uttered the phrase. Either way there is no way that someone in his campaign didn’t see a link with this line and Sarah Palin, there had to have been discussion about this line and whether to use it before he ever took the stage and the campaign decided to go with it.
I don’t think that he meant anything malicious here, but I think it was an unfortunate choice of words and it could come back to haunt him.

It sure sounded like a reference to the McCain/Bush type politics to me. But even if he had meant it as a slam to her, she threw the first stones at the convention. If you can’t take it, don’t dish it!

You missed another aspect of this. McCain, at one point, referred to a policy that was proposed by Hillary as putting lipstick on a pig. Here’s a quote from the political ticker for CNN.
“In Iowa last October, McCain drew comparisons between Hillary Clinton’s current healthcare plan and the one she championed in 1993: “I think they put some lipstick on the pig, but it’s still a pig.” He used roughly the same line in May, after effectively claiming the Republican nomination.”

Americans are so stinking spoiled rotton to the core, we have it made here, in America WE ARE SOOO SOOO BLESSED!! Our grocery stores are always! packed full of food, our kids are NOT” so weak from starvation they can’t even swat away the flies,their little bellies aren’t so bloated from malnutrition they can’t hardly walk, nope America’s children’s bellies are swollen from being obese and having toooo much food, and they spend 90 % of their time glued to video games or tv, whinning, and griping about being bored,because they don’t have the latest games,clothes,shoes etc..( I am not saying this about every single kid in America there are some disciplined kids) Our children can go to sleep in warm beds, with a roof over their heads, have good schools, where they can learn and with hard work become anything they want. I know there are some who do not have all these things but at least their families can get help from someone, somewhere.Even our poorest of the poor have it way way way way better than those in some other countries!!!!! Even a street person has it better and some of them choose to live on the street because of laziness and lack of having a goals.EVERYONE can choose what type of life you want, you can go down the road and hang with the crowds of alcohol, drugs, etc or you can hang out with a goal oriented crowd and make something of yourself.
The parking lots at ALL the major stores wally -world, K-mart. Target etc.t are alway full everyday all day long. ALL!!!!! The shopping malls filled with name brand stores are ALWAYS packed inside and out, people shopping,shopping, buying, buying the latest degisns, toys keeping rich designers in their million dollar homes and million dollar life styles. ALL sports arenas are always packed out every sport every game, and the tickets are100’s of dollars, not counting the accessories people buy. giving all those athletes millions of their hard earned money.LIving in all of their millions dollars homes and laughing at you all the way to the bank. I think some of them are repectful and know from whom they make their living.
Traveling down the highway you can see hundreds of RV’s,campers etc people going, going, vacationing, having a good time with their families. Hotels, motels usually always full of people going, going.
Resturants ALWAYS ALWAYs full of people to the extent that most of the time you have to wait 30 minutes to an hour to get a seat. Then you have the drive thru resturants my gosh and people have the nerve to gripe in this country that we don’t have anything,you people who gripe should be totally ashamed of yourselves. The drive thru’s are never ending, people constantly eating fast food everyday all day long.
Campgrounds packed out, the beach, the mountains. Go anywhere on vacation in America and you will see millions of people spending, playing, buying having a grand old time. Which there is nothing wrong at all with that but stop complaining for pete’s sake.
Packed out Nascar events(they are not concerned about high gas prices) people spending, spending Oh we have it so bad in America(,NOT!!!) the economy is horrible NOT!!. Traveling down the highways of America bumper to bumper, traffic is always packed out everywhere! I haven’t seen one person in this country cut back because of high gas prices,because all the gas stations are alway packed full, where you even have to wait in line to get gas, even if gas got to be $10.00 dollars a gal. no one in this country is going to stop going going going~!!

theme parks, zoo’s musems,etc. ALWAYS full of people buying, spending, playing etc. Look in most garages today, there are two or three vehicles, the garage is full of bicyles, motorcyles, atv’s etc. Look in any kid’s room in America and I assure you they will have so many toys they don’t even know what toys they have or what to play with.
Go to any movie theater full of people,who spend spend to watch the million dollar stars who by the way gripe constantly about everything from a to z. Hollywood thats’ a whole page to write about in it’s self. My gosh those people don’t even think they are human beings,the hollywoood crowd think they are little gods whom we all should bow down and worship them at their feet. They ALL!!! think they are better than anyone who doesn’t act or sing like them and we are the ones putting all the millions and millions of dollars in their pockets. Obama now begs Hillary Clinton to help him fight Sarah Palin on the campaign trail. He is a coward, who has ruined the Democratic ticket. That’s why we have crossed party lines to McCain/Palin. Alexa, you’re crossing over demonstrates the immense ignorance of the average American voter. How can a liberal democrat be for McCain and Palin? Palin supports intensely conservative ideals; for example, she is pro-life (even in the cases of rape and incest), she wants creationist “science” taught in public education, she has attempted to censor “improper” literature. She is essentially a hard-nosed conservative and the only possible reason you have for voting for the McCain-Palin ticket is that Palin happens to have a vagina. So if McCain and Palin win the ticket, be ready for 4 more years of economic ruin and ravaging of the middle class, but hey, at least a woman will be doing it.

Casting stones is a politicians job. It’s called “a campaign”. THank you Donna! I agree. There are just as many people out shopping & and dining as there ever was, if not more. One thing I have noticed, is that less people go to fast food restaurants and more go to chains like Bertucci’s, Applebee’s, etc. Which costs more and is a more enjoyable experience.
