Wake Up America Says Thank You

 I don’t usually write posts like this one but as September comes to a close I felt the need to say thank you. September was by far and away the greatest month in terms of hits that I have had. This month far exceeded any previous month and while I will never reach the success of some of the “big boys” that are out there this blog has already exceeded any expectations that I had. The daily numbers have been inspiring the last several weeks.

 I had gone through a rough time blogging wise earlier in the year and I was asking myself why was I doing this. I was struggling just to come up with topics to write about. But I think that there are just down times in the political news cycle and that is what I was feeling. There has been so much too write about lately that I can’t keep up, I have missed some stories because others were more important.

 But back to the point, I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who comes here on a regular basis for your support and I would also like to thank anyone who comes here once in a while. Whether you agree with me or disagree it has been a fun month. Who knows what will happen after November in the blogosphere, I suspect that the traffic will die down. But I am enjoying it while it lasts

 Once again, thank you to everyone who stopped by this month, the stats for this month have blown me away.

 I would also like to take this time to mention that regular readers here may have noticed a subtle change. It is in my header image. Where once the title in the upper left hand corner said  “Wake Up America”, it now says “The Watchtower.”

  I am in the slow process of changing my blog name to The Watchtower. However I am unwilling to totally leave the original name behind and that is why I have the new lighthouse image with the Wake Up America logo on my sidebar. I’m like a moderate, I can’t make up my mind.

 I first toyed with the idea of changing the name over a year ago and if I had done it then it would have been much easier. I got the idea for The Watchtower when I was given the “Thinking Blogger” award by a now defunct blog who said this about Wake Up America when he gave me the award;

“I liken the author of this blog as the town watchman standing over the gates of the city and warning any who will read of the dangers that are about us.”

 That is how I got the idea to put the light tower image in my original header image. By mistake I lost that original image and had to come up with a new one, which is the current one.

 If you currently have me in your blogroll feel free to update your link with the new name, if you don’t that’s okay too.

    Steve..I don’t like your new name because it’s the name of the Jehovah’s Witnesses magazine “The Watchtower”. That’s all I can think of when I see it and some people might get confused. How about just plain “Watchtower” or “Steve’s Watchtower” or “Guardtower”..something like that.

    I didn’t know that, but I do like the name though. If it wasn’t for all of the time that I have put in promoting Wake Up America I would have changed it a while ago.
    The quote that I used from the blog that nominated me for the “Thinking Blogger” award I considered a huge compliment and that is where the idea came from.
    Try to think of it this way, I want to be the watchtower that overlooks the “shining city upon the hill” to quote Ronald Reagan.

    From his farewell address:

    The past few days when I’ve been at that window upstairs, I’ve thought a bit of the “shining city upon a hill.” The phrase comes from John Winthrop, who wrote it to describe the America he imagined. What he imagined was important because he was an early Pilgrim, an early freedom man. He journeyed here on what today we’d call a little wooden boat; and like the other Pilgrims, he was looking for a home that would be free.

    I’ve spoken of the shining city all my political life, but I don’t know if I ever quite communicated what I saw when I said it. But in my mind it was a tall proud city built on rocks stronger than oceans, wind-swept, God-blessed, and teeming with people of all kinds living in harmony and peace, a city with free ports that hummed with commerce and creativity, and if there had to be city walls, the walls had doors and the doors were open to anyone with the will and the heart to get here. That’s how I saw it and see it still.

    Congrats!!! I am seeing an increase in hits too because I’ve been doing so many posts on Palin ;-).

    My only problem with the Watchtower name is thats what Jehovah’s Witnesses call their newsletter ;-).

    LOL Tom, sorry about that. I will try to not change it again, but I do like “American Watchtower” also, so you never know.
