Now that Obama has Been Elected I Feel Liberated
A strange thing has happened since Barack Obama became the president-elect. I feel liberated. I don’t know how else to explain it.
I don’t know whether it is simply the fact that the longest presidential campaign in history is finally over or just that I know longer feel obligated to defend my party. It is probably both. It has been obvious for quite some time that Barack Obama was going to win the presidency, but until it actually happened I felt compelled to do whatever I could to stop it. Now that he has won I can sit back and relax. Whatever happens and wherever Obama’s agenda takes us I can react to it and write about it.
I no longer feel I am writing from a defensive position. While I have always gone on the offensive with my posts, while I have tried to take the fight to the Democrats, it has always been in the interest of defending my party. But now my party is truly in the minority in all branches of government and I no longer have anything to defend. Whatever happens going forward will be under a Democrat majority with a Democrat president. So anything that happens in Washington that needs defending will need defending from Democrats. It will need defending from people like me who are now ready to go on the offensive.
It really is strangely liberating.

I can understand that. It was a long long campaign. I volunteered for Obama for the past 10 months or so and dang am I tired.
What do you think the GOP is going to do now? I have a feeling that the GOP is going to split. I think that the Fundamentalists Evangelicals are going to go further to the right and the Moderates are going to get shaken out.
I have a feeling that the Moderates may become Independants or “Soft Republicans.” I also think that actual conservatives (not the fundies who only care about religion) will probably go to the Libertarian or Constitutionalists Party.
I don’t want the GOP to die. I do think that the party system in the states is important to keep, however, the GOP as it stands and as America showed in the last two election cycles just will not win.
