President-Elect Obama Insults Nancy Reagan in his First Official Press Conference

November 7, 2008

obamafingerPresident-elect Obama gave his first official press conference since winning the election. During press conference he said the following:

“I have spoken to all of them who are living,” he responded. “I didn’t want to get into a Nancy Reagan thing about doing any séances.”

This was supposed to be a shot at Nancy Reagan, evidently he didn’t realize that Nancy Reagan used astrologers and didn’t hold any seances. But anyway, in his first press conference he took a cheap shot at the widow of the man that conservatives consider their icon and he is the man that is supposed to heal our souls and bring America together? That’s the way to reach across the isle and unite the country?

Barack Obama failed in his first official act before he is officially the president. I will give him credit for one think though. He called Nancy Reagan and apologized. I just wish that the candidate who won because he promoted his judgement had actually used good judgement in his first press conference.

Relax, the guy is president now, everyone getting all butt hurt about every little comment isn’t going to help anyone. Direct all of this negative energy to something positive.

Take a chill pill; it was a joke – a witty reference – not a cheap shot. Jeesh.

    This shows two things.

    1) Obama is not the messiah because he is not perfect.
    2) Not all attempts at humor are going to be hits.
    3) Conservatives need to get the same thick skin that they say that the liberals need.

Witty reference? He was trying to make a joke that failed horribly. Either he was very tired (granted) or he just has a very bad sense of humor. He should really try not to pull off those kind of “jokes” in the future. I’m not saying that he cannot say what he wants, that comment just did not “work” for him. Or, maybe S. is right and it was a shot at the right. I wouldn’t be surprised.

It was uncalled for. A bad joke at a bad time. But let’s not over analyze everything he says. It was a throw away comment that wasn’t the main thrust of his answer. Bad? Yes. Meaningful? No.

It might not have been meaningful, but for the man that says he will unite America to make a joke about the widow of the man that half of America considers a political icon I found it in bad taste. It just wasn’t a good way for him to start reaching out.

Yeah, I’ll agree with that. But we should be consistent and go through every speech of every President and see how many people they upset. Let’s focus on the guy currently in charge and then go for the guy who has been elected.

When I watched this and heard him say it, I cringed. I think it is all of the above, tired, bad humor and possibly a shot. All I can say is that he has 4 years to either make it worse or better. I’ll at least give him that. At the end of his term I’ll vote against him again….maybe the rest of the U.S. will be fed up with his B.S. and do the same.

We can’t get upset about what we can’t change, but when the time comes to change it, be ready.

And yes….you should analyze everything he says and does. They have been doing it to Bush for 8 years now. You don’t get to be president and not be held responsible for your actions and words. (No matter how well they are scripted)

You simply cannot gloss over this. Either you have class – or you don’t! There simple isn’t any apology that’s good enough for sheer arrogance. The worst is yet to come.
