Obama Remains Silent About the Hamas/Israel Conflict

December 30, 2008

Has anyone else noticed that Barack Obama has yet to even release a statement condemning the violence between Hamas ans Israel? What is he waiting for?

During the campaign such an attack would have prompted Obama to make a statement, perhaps he doesn’t take a stand because he can no longer just wait for McCain to take a stand and then take the opposite side. He no longer has that luxury.

His apologists will claim that he is not yet president and because of this he doesn’t want to interfere but this was not the case during the election when Russia invaded Georgia. He made a statement then. At that point it seemed as though America had three presidents- Bush, McCain, and Obama. At that point neither McCain nor Obama were concerned about interference, both candidates wanted to appear tough and both candidates released statements.

In Obama’s statement then he claimed that he talked to the Georgian president and offered him condolences over the loss of life. He also condemned the violence.

Now however he is silent. Why is this the case? Suddenly he is leaving it up to President Bush, would it really be so hard for him to just release a statement condemning the violence without placing blame on one side or the other? I don’t think so.

Is this the same man who as a candidate went to Europe and campaigned as a global president? Is this the same man who did in fact interfere in the United States foreign policy as a candidate when he visited Iraq during the campaign?

Now suddenly he doesn’t want to interfere? Something is odd here. Barack Obama the candidate would have said something, Barack Obama the president-elect is suddenly keeping to himself and minding his own business until he becomes president. I think that Barack Obama should let us know where he stands on this conflict instead of letting the lame duck president handle it.

We need to know which side Barack Obama is on.

He’s just showing his foreign policy credentials. Either that or he doesn’t want to anger his Hamas campaign contributors.

Obama can’t criticize the atrocities of the Hebrew state until they wipe the Palestinians off the face of earth. Israel is a racist entity and they embarrass every president.

This is scary. What if he is silent because he does not want to take sides? Or he does not want to admit what side he is on? He is going to be (God help us all) President of the United States. He must protect Israel. This country was founded on belief in God.

He says nothing because he knows this is a test instigated by forces greater than Hamas. If he indictaes that he is pro-Israel, he loses the respect of the anti-war left who put him in office. If he condemns Israel’s sef-defense stance, Israel will be attacked by a coalition of Arab states who will rise up to “defend” the ground invasion of Palestine. Then, he will be forced to defend Israel, and if he does not, the Arab world will know that the face of their enemy (the US) is the face of a coward whose rhetoric carries no weight. He says nothing becase he has reached the point where his actions speak and his words mean nothing. The election is over. It’s time to put up or shut up.

Silence is action in this situation. His lack of comment is support for Israel. A support that they deserve. War is hell. That said, when a group like Hamas (an organization labeled a terror organization by the UN) continues to lobe missiles into Israel on a daily basis action must be taken. Get out of your living rooms and stop wishing Bush had a 3rd term. You are the reason our country is falling apart and a world that used to respect the US hates us now.

I must be pretty powerful if the whole world hates us because of what I write.
