House Democrats Pass New Rules to Silence Republicans
The dawn of a new day is almost here. On January 20th the new president will be sworn in. This president has promised to be bipartisan, he claimed that we are not red state America or blue state America, but the United States of America. He said to those of you whose vote I didn’t get, I will work to get it next time, I am your president too.
Democrats in the house and senate promised the most open and honest congress in history. They promised to heal the wounds of Americans, they promised to bring us all together.
But on their first day in congress the house passed new rules that are designed to silence Republican lawmakers and render them impotent. Instead of working with Republicans to better the country Democrats have decided to shut them down, to drown them in the seas of irrelevance.
When Democrats speak of uniting the country what they are really talking about is making the whole country agree with them. As these new rules prove, they have no intention to work with Republicans it is quite the contrary. They have made it more difficult for the people who don’t agree with them to have any representation.
Is this bipartisanship? Is this how to heal a country? Is this how to be open and honest? Is this how to unite a country?
The Democrats on their first day in office have proved that they are all rhetoric, but short on action.They are all promises but no commitment.
The change that Barack Obama must have been talking about was to silence the opposition and not let them have a voice. At least that is what I gather from the congess’ first day on the job.













You sound like a Right-Wing Extremist who is whining about losing power. What you really want is the power again to destroy the economy in the name of Free Market Chaos Theory.
You guys lost the election big time. The President, House, Senate are all run by Democrats with large majorities. You can whine all you want, but you are out of power for a reason, because Your Idiots and failures.

I don’t think they democrats should shut down the republicans, but for the first 6 years of the Bush administration the democrats had no voice in congress, and there was no talk from republicans on bipartisinship. Now that they’ve lost the majority, there’s ranting and raving from republicans that there should be bipartisinship. It may not be right, but it almost seems fair.

um, do you remember when the republicans would hold hearings and meetings, but not tell the democrats where they were? or when they locked and/or kicked people out of very important security hearings?
the republicans love to do this to democrats, but when the tables are turned, they cry like little girls.

I really can’t beleive that a liberal Democrat has the gall to accuse you, or anybody, of whinning. The Liberal Democrats have made a career out of whinning out loud while working dilligently to undermine all that is good and right in this country until they have finally bamboozeled enough sheeple into giving them the reins and now they will ride this country right into the grave. Unless we can unite and return to our core, and corps, values The Undited States of America will be no more. We will become an insignificant part of the New One World Order and all of our hard won freedoms will be stripped from us and we will be Freemen no more.
I am an optimist though and find good in everything. Barack Hussien Obama, aka The One, will save us. Not by uniting the country, not by destroying all opposition to his cause, not by his amazing insight and unparalleled leadership. But by forcing the conservative, hard working, God fearing people that truely love this country to come togather and pull down this corrupt government and rebuild.

What I find interesting is that the republicans were pointing out that the last congress was the one that did the least (partly due to abusing the cloture rules by the republicans). Now, when rules are put in place to streamline the process and to take away some stalling tactics, the complaint is that they are taking away the rights of the minority.
Funny, when the republicans were in power, these shenanigans were perfectly acceptable and the democrats were whiners.

Am I the only one remembering Dem Legislators leaving the chambers en masse to make a point ? And am I the only one that remembers Dem filibusters with such greats as Bobby Byrds ramblings about his doggie ? Opposition no matter the party is a crucial part of our democracy. Hitler streamlined the ‘stag ! Remember that.

I also remember the republicans threatening to revise the cloture rules when the democrats were abusing them to prevent Bush’s nominations from passing.
Long story short, both sides are guilty of trying to suppress the other side minority rights.

All irrelevant. If we were to simply find ourselves in an America with no D.C. we would be capable of building ourselves from the ground up into something that is more reflective of a country or countries that are more equipped to function effectively with the rest of the world. Our Federal government is officially so red taped with inefficiencies, wasteful spending and policies that do not necessarily reflect the true needs of it’s citizens that anyone claiming to have a solution that does not involve scrapping it and starting over is in my opinion a dreamer.
One size fits all laws in a country of 300,000,000 people and forcing successfully managed State’s and their citizens to pay out Billions of dollars to help float mismanaged States and their incompetent undereducated citizens will also not work. And in a truly equal world it shouldn’t. The more I see the news from agencies inside and outside the US, the more I think that the US would be better off as probably 3 different countries rather that the failure that it is now.
