Bonnie Newman to Replace Judd Gregg as New Hampshire Senator

February 1, 2009

According to thisarticle the leading candidate to replace Judd Gregg if he becomes President Obama’s Commerce Secretary is Bonnie Newman.

Bonnie Newman is considered a moderate Republican and because of this it seems to be the kind of deal that is most likely going to happen. Her possible appointment for Gregg’s seat has some Republicans nervous because she appears to be a RINO. And that is probably why this is going to happen.

Let’s face it, Governor Lynch will be under heavy scrutiny by national Democrats to select a Democrat to replace Gregg yet Gregg probably won’t accept the position of Commerce Secretary unless Lynch agrees to replace him with a Republican.

So as a compromise the governor will appoint someone who just might side with Democrats on many issues. And also someone he feels he can beat once he decides to run for that seat in 2010.

I guess I can’t be too picky, after all I should consider myself lucky that any Republican is even being considered for this job. But I can’t help but think about John Sununu and how a brilliant man like this is just sitting out there when he should be representing New Hampshire and America. He should be Judd Gregg’s replacement.

John Sununu or Warren Rudman would be fine choices and there are certainly many others. I fired off an e-mail to Senator Gregg asking he NOT accept the position without a guarantee that he is replaced with a Republican. An independent is not good enough.

Nice to find a fellow New Hampshirerite Republican blogger. I’ll be back.

Thanks Joe, and I will be checking your blog out also.
I am still holding out hope that John Sununu will be Gregg’s replacement.

I don’t get how any promise from Lynch is a comfort.

I’m at a loss as to what Lynch would gain by choosing a moderate republican. Especially in light of the fiasco that is happening with the comedian and Reid being determined to seat him no matter what. A moderate Republican that might vote left seems a risk to me unless the dems have something they can leverage over this particular candidate?

From what I heard today Bonnie Newman would probably not run for re-election in 2010 leaving the seat open. If Lynch agrees to appoint her or someone like her than Judd Gregg will leave the senate to take his new post and this would make it easier for the Democrats to pick up that seat in 2010. If he doesn’t agree to Gregg’s terms than Gregg will not leave. Lynch’s ultimate goal here is to rid himself of a Republican and make it easier for Democrats to win that seat in 2010.

By the time 2010 comes around, the dimocrats will need all the seats they can get. If NObama can’t make everything all pretty before then, they will be in for quite a bloodbath, and we all know what his odds are of doing a good job, right?

I think we know. 2010 could be the turning point that we have been waiting for, at least I “hope” so.

Bonnie Newman is no Republican and hasn’t been since the Reagan years. Like Walter Peterson, she is part of this cabal of ‘republicans’ in NH who have thrown us under the bus by openly supporting John Lynch and in some case worse, supporting Obama. They should be forced out of the party like Sandra Keans and Liz Hager before them. These are the people who have ruined the GOP in NH. Shame on them… kick them out. There is no way Lynch is going to appoint a REAL Republican, did you think?

I didn’t think that Judd Gregg was a RINO, but it sure looks like it now. He knows he shouldn’t go, but I guess the temptation is too great.

In the last two years he began to try to distance himself from President Bush. I would still take him over any Democrat who may run in 2010.
