Tom Daschle Resigns Nomination in Disgrace
Today Tom Daschle has removed his name from consideration for the cabinet position of Health and Human Services because of his tax problems. Today Tom Daschle resigns in disgrace.
I am sick and tired of people like Timothy Geithner and Tom Daschle claiming that they just made a mistake. So what if it was an honest mistake? It doesn’t matter, the law is the law and ignorance of the law is not an excuse from the law. That is what I was always taught.
Both Timothy Geithner and Tom Daschle had no intention of ever paying their taxes until they were nominated for positions in President Obama’s crooked cabinet. And why should they have paid them? Evidently the IRS wasn’t pursuing them with the vigor that they would pursue you and I so they would have been foolish to pay the money they owed. Once these two scumbags were up for cabinet posts they decided to pay the back taxes and interest but neither had to pay fines or penalties that could have at least doubled the money they owed the IRS.
While Tom Daschle’s tax delinquency was much greater than Timothy Geithner’s at least he would have had no control over the people from whom he was hiding. Timothy Geithner will. Tom Daschle resigned in disgrace and Timothy Geithner should also resign. He never should have been confirmed.
The only thing that I find more disgraceful than Timothy Geithner and Tom Daschle is that either Barack Obamadid not vet these corrupt criminals or he was willing to over look the criminal activity. Either way President Obama has incredibly horrible judgement.
President Obama needs to learn that Washington DC is not Chicago. When Barack Obama promised to bring change to Washington little did 53% of the voters realize the change he was talking about was bringing corrupt Chicago politics to Washington.
Now that is change we can believe in?

Oh come on. Like you’ve looked back over your returns for the last few years just incase you made mistakes that were rectifiable. Like you’d alert the IRS if you found such mistakes (but he did). Remember what the US got in exchange when it went all crazy over a minor failing by an otherwise excellent President? Can the US really afford to make that kind of mistake again. Unless we are willing to accept being ruled by non-humans, we ain’t gonna get perfection. Nor should we. The perfect guy isn’t going to have much empathy for our failings, is he?

A friend of mine borrowed my car for a couple of months while he worked to remodel my bathroom. Does this mean he has to count it as income? Can I turn him in and collect the reward?

Let’s see, 3 tax cheats, 14 lobbyists, a Chief of Staff that needs a lawyer to say anything regarding Blagojevich, catering to Islam, closing a prison for terrorists, abortions abroad to be funded-by you, and a stimulus bill that even Dems have a hard time swallowing. Did I leave anything out in the first week?
And of course there was “pay to play” Bill Richardson to get the ball rolling…

Actually, he sure is. The things he’s doing should have been done years ago. It’s pretty funny actually seeing the GOP with its record of corruption and general immorality trying to dirty Obama and his team. If they start fighting back, and I’m betting they will, there won’t be a GOPer in the House or Senate. You know it’s true.

No, he’s shutting down Guantanamo, cutting off execs at $500,000 (a figure they apparently consider “draconian”), making it easier for women to get paid as well as men doing the same job, etc.etc. etc. And if he can get the things done that need doing using folks who call the IRS’s attention to their own underpayment mistakes (Do you know anyone who has done that?), then bully for him.

In the end he most likely won’t shut down GITMO. This was just a PR move.
As far as capping executive pay, if that is limited to the people receiving TARP funds than OK. But there is talk that this will be for all execs. If that is true than this is the government stepping way out of bounds. Do I think these guys are overpaid? Yes, but that isn’t for the government to decide. Who’s next, Oprah, Rush, baseball players, actors.and so on. I think you and I just have a very different opinion of what government should be.

yes, we probably do. The question is, do you have any experience of living under different types of government? I do. I now live under the UK system and have for 4 years. I lived three months in Denmark. And I lived two years in Poland when there still remained many of the characteristics of the communist system (in 1995-6). So I have not only theoretical knowledge but direct experience.

Also, are you aware of the big differences between the ratio of exec to worker pay in the US and that same ratio in other western countries, particularly Europe. And the same corporations operate in all these countries, and they still manage to make a profit, so there’s no deficit in the exec talent. Yes, US executives are vastly overpaid.
