A Congressman Introduces a Bill That Would Ban GITMO Detainees From Setting Foot in the USA

March 3, 2009

One of the first things that the current president did upon taking office was to issue the irresponsible executive order to close GITMO before he knew what the hell we were going to do with the terrorists held there. A clear political move that I still feel will not come to pass.

But just in case it does come to pass there is one congressman, John Shadegg, who has introduced a bill that would ban all GITMO detainees from setting foot on American soil. Sadly we all know that this bill will probably never make it out of committee for a vote on the floor, but I still hope that it does. I would love to get every politician on record as to where they stand on this issue. We already know where John Murtha stands on this issue, he said he would gladly take them into his back yard.

It is good to know that there are still some politicians out there who understand what we are up against, I just wish there were more. Hopefully this bill will make it to the floor so that we can find out how many we do have that get it.

Why should they be prevented to enter the United States?

Many of these POW’s have either no case filed or the case files are in complete disarray. Today, we know the previous administration had no intent to make a case for why the POW’s were at GITMO in the first place.

POWs are held until the end of war, that is the deal. When the war is over their release should be negotiated. Until then, lock them up!

I wonder if Gavin Newsome would give them sanctuary in San Francisco. I bet he would.

I’m not sure I agree with the premise that most of these are POW’s some are enemy combatants but others are clearly terrorist. I do not want them housed in the United States. If they are to be tried then lets get on with it. If not lets send them back to where they came from. I think that they have been afforded to many rights already. Bringing them here would afford them our constitutional rights and subject them to the joke of a criminal justice system that we have adopted. In other words some terrorist organization would pay for a high priced lawyer and they would be acquitted. You know “if the bomb don’t fit you must acquit”. Let the military tribunals handle this. That is the only body set up to deal with these types of issues.

I will agree with that accessment Robert. There is no way in hell these people should ever set foot on US soil.
