President Obama Gives a DVD Set to British PM Gordon Brown as a Gift

March 9, 2009

British Prime Minister Gordon Brown recently visited the White House and was promptly snubbed by the president, who didn’t show him the common decency of holding a press conference which is how important dignitaries are usually treated, outraging the British press. This huge public relations gaffe by the public relations conscious president wasn’t even the worse gaffe that he made while the Prime Minister was visiting.

The two world leaders exchanged gifts. Gordon Brown gave Obama a pen-holder for his desk that was made from the wood of a warship that helped stamp out the slave trade, a hugely symbolic gesture that commemorates the history aspect of Obama’s presidency, meanwhile President Obama gave Gordon Brown a 25 DVD box set of classic American movies that he could have bought at Walmart.

This is not sitting well with the British press because Gordon Brown is blind in one eye and losing the sight in his other eye.

With all of the staff that President Obama has around him you would think that somebody would have done just a little bit of research and found out this little tidbit.

Talk about not doing your homework. This whole event has been an embarrassment to the United States, what should have been a normal meeting between the two allies has turned into a fiasco because President Obama couldn’t be bothered to do a little homework.

President Obama gave a DVD set to a man that is going blind, what a moron. Can you imagine if it had been President Bush who did this?

What pretentiousness! The rest of America should be happy that he’s not wasting hundreds of dollars on pretentious gifts for world leaders who already have everything they could possibly want. This is nonsense news.

The point of the gift exchange is to give the international counterpart something that is not necessarily expensive, but priceless; a gift you could only get from a head of state. The gifts from Brown were very well thought out, whereas Obama proceeded with a series of snubs – first the return of the Churchill bust that was a gift from England following 9/11; then the decision not to hold a press conference after their first meeting; and finally, the ridiculous gifts that were ultimately presented. Aside from the basket of DVDs that included “Star Wars IV”, “Psycho”, and “E.T.”, the Brown’s children were given a box of toy helicopters – probably straight from the White House gift shop. The President is supposed to (and does) have people working for him that are supposed to take care of these little things on his behalf, but apparently he wasn’t interested enough in this meeting to even let a staffer make the effort.

The whole world revolves around Obama. That is what that “gift” says to me. He doesn’t even care about Brown’s vision, or how any of it would be perceived. Because—–why? Say it with me— because the whole world revolves around Barack Obama.

Not only did he not care about Gordon Brown’s vision but also, and I forgot to write this when I posted, DVD’s bought in America won’t even play in European DVD players.

US is a sinking ship…..A sad day to be here, when you truly do care about real “change” and you are witnessing a total disgrace.
    Sorry WORLD.
