House Members Did Not Read the Climate Change Bill Before Voting

June 29, 2009

You would have thought that after passing the stimulus bill without reading it, and witnessing the fact that the stimulus bill has been a total failure, that the House would take the time to actually read what they are voting on from now on. You would be wrong.

As if it wasn’t bad enough that the government flushed upwards of $3 trillion down the toilet in the stimulus bill without being at least a little responsible and finding out where that money was going, the House of Representatives just repeated that same mistake when they voted on the climate changes legislation without reading what was in the bill. Another $1 trillion down the drain without a care in the world by our elected officials.

But why should they care; they aren’t spending their own money. The government does not produce anything, they do not manufacture anything. Therefor the government does not make any money. But they have to get money, so they take money. They take money from you and I, and they love to spend it.

This is so damned irresponsible, I just can’t put it into words. As hard of a time as I would have accepting this bill with this type of wasteful spending on a “theory” that we are hurting the planet, at least I could accept it easier if these politicians took the time to read what they are voting on.

We elect these people to represent us and they cannot even take the time to read what they are voting on to make sure it represents our best interests? We need to vote all of these irresponsible clowns out of office — the sooner the better.

All I ask of them is to read a bill before they vote on it. Is that too much to ask?

I was thinking about this for a while, and my first question was: How often, if ever does congress fully read ANY of the bills?

Now, I’m guessing we all will say rarely, if ever. It still doesn’t make it right. I say vote out everyone who votes in favor of a bill without reading it, period. I don’t care what the party; if we elect people that are supposed to understand what is being proposed and then vote in our best interest — yet they consistently don’t — they don’t deserve the job. Adios to ’em.

Congresscritters rarely read the bills they are presented to vote on. They receive summaries from their aides which usually include “what’s in it for me” information. Unless they get some sort of negative feedback from the aides or their constituents (which could be overridden by dealmaking), they would vote for the measure.

Wish they would vote for this stuff as if the consequences were coming out of their personal bank accounts…

I am sure that they don’t read most of the bills but it is still appalling to me that we have representation that is voting on legislation and they don’t even know the full extent of what they are voting on.

I think this points to a systemic problem with politicians. They are more in the business of being elected or re-elected, than accomplishing goals. The parties by-and-large perpetuate this. Furthermore, politicians have succeeded in deafening us to their antics to the point where the vast majority of Americans fully feel that politicians are typically lying when they speak, are up to devious actions, and have nothing but self-interest in mind.

For this, I’d like to see congress have term limits in place. This will bring more people to the table that want to accomplish goals before they get out.

You are right, everything that politicians do is geared towards re-election, not what is best for the country.

Apparently is is WAY too much to ask. Especially when they put 340 more pages in it in the middle of the nite. No chance to read that!

Their excuse is that they know all of the big things that are in the amendment so they don’t need to read it. What a crock of shit! The amendment was designed to buy off the final votes that were needed and not enough people read the bill to see the earmarks that were put into it. This is so frustrating!
