The Obama Administration Tries to Change the Goal of the Stimulus Bill

June 30, 2009

Just when you thought the stimulus stories were long gone along comes this story that I feel I must address. It is obvious to me that the stimulus package has failed. As the economy continues to worsen and more Americans are losing their jobs despite the passage of the stimulus package one has to take a second look at what the stimulus bill has accomplished. A second look won’t take long; the stimulus bill has done nothing.

The Obama administration realizes the failure of the stimulus bill also and the spin is in full swing. The claim now is that the stimulus bill wasn’t designed to help the economy right away, but if we just have patience we will begin to see the effects of the stimulus bill any time now.

We always knew we were not going to get all that much fiscal impact during the first five to six months. The big impact starts to hit from about now onwards

Either that claim is a lie or the position of the president during the stimulus debate was a lie. Pick your poison. The claim that the administration knew that the stimulus bill would take months before a result was seen seems to run counter to the president’s claim at the time. He claimed that the stimulus bill needed to be passed right away without delay because it was the only way to save the economy. Now we are being told that the stimulus bill was never designed to help in the short term. It seems to me that the administration needs to get their story straight.

The fact is that the stimulus bill has failed to gain the results that President Obama claimed it would have and so now the administration is trying to lower the people’s expectations. By changing what the supposed goals of the stimulus bill were he can deny the claim that the bill is a failure. But we can see through this ruse. The American people aren’t as stupid as the president thought, or hoped, we were. We know when we are being bullshitted. And we are being bullshitted.

It is time to put your boots on, it is getting high.

Just wait. In another 6 months we’ll get the “unemployment is a lagging indicator”-it’s the last thing to come around in a recovering economy. That should cover it until they can manufacture a new crisis.

Seems that the people who harp on the democrats for not knowing “basic economics” have forgot it themselves. Money entering the economy through a reduction in taxes or government spending does not have an immediate effect. Three months is not enough time for it to have full effect. Heck, a good portion of the money has not even been spent yet. That said, I don’t think the stimulus bill is not going to work because of where the money was targeted.

@rjjrdq: They are already using that statement about unemployment.

Yep, definitely at cranberry bog levels. Obama is making this crap up as he goes along. Hence the fly infestation at the White House. Those bugs know where that smell is coming from.
