The new crisis: 90,000 could die from the Swine Flu

August 24, 2009

The sky is falling! The sky is falling! We are all going to die! It is the end of the world! Repent now!

The Obama administration has based its whole agenda on one “crisis” after the other, from the economic “crisis” to the automaker “crisis” to the mortgage “crisis” to the healthcare “crisis” to the global warming “crisis” we are constantly being told that all of these “crisis can only be solved by government intervention.

The Obama administration believes that you should never let a good crisis go to waste, crisis allows you to implement things that you would not normally be able to implement. Rahm Emanuel has even admitted as much. So the Obama administration is trying to keep the people in a constant state of crisis and now there is a new “crisis.”

The Obama administration is now saying that half of the population could catch the flu and that 90,000 people could die from the flu, to be more exact the swine flu.

Does anybody else think that there is a link between the administration’s use of the new swine flu “crisis” and the healthcare “crisis?” Is the administration trying to cash in on this new swine flu “crisis” to try to influence the people to support healthcare reform and alleviate the healthcare “crisis?”

It is all to convenient to be a mere coincidence.

Not taking up for Obama, but after the last 4 days of watching my daughter fight for her life from the flu and pneumonia, they *MAY* be right on the numbers… Just sayin’…

Typical of the current administration to rely on the ignorance of the public

Typically, in a year’s normal two flu seasons (one per hemisphere), there are between three and five million cases of severe illness and up to 500,000 deaths worldwide.
Although the incidence of influenza can vary widely between years, approximately 36,000 deaths and more than 200,000 hospitalizations are directly associated with influenza every year in the United States.

Doubling the death rate to 90,000 is hardly an epidemic.
Hundreds of thousands die in an epidemic
    Millions die in a pandemic

The WHO officially declared the outbreak to be a “pandemic” on June 11, 2009. Which plays into the hands of Obamacare.
WHO’s claims a pandemic level 6 an indication of spread, not severity.

The Crisis is of course over the severity of the spread.
I am sure the “experts” will soon be surprised (who ever they are) by the seemingly mild flu season this year.

But perhaps not before we can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.

Sorry to hear about your daughter, I hope she recovers, she most likley will but 1,000s don’t every year.

They sure are bent on giving out those untested flu shots. Just seems a little strange how vigorously they’re going about it.

They figure they’ll only have about 100,000,000 doses ready this year. That will leave a lot of people without. I volunteer to not get mine. Anybody want it?

Yea, I’m a chemist in the pharmaceutical field and it takes about 5 years to get a new cough and cold formulation to market because it might cause a mild rash or euphoria or something but they can rush this untested vaccine to market in just a few months. Why? Because they, the liberals in charge, stand to make a lot of money on this thing and if they don’t strike before the panic subsides, then they won’t make a smuch. Greed, pure greed. Not to mention the whole wag the dog angle. How better to distract the people from the radical healthcare reform than to have a PANDEMIC on our hands. It’s the flu for shit’s sake! Yea, I know it kills people, but not as many people as socialized medicine does. And the swine flu is actually a mild strain of the flu anyway. Talk about fear tactics. Wasn’t it the liberals all in a tizzy over fear tactics just a year or two ago?
As for Mackey, I think it’s a hoot that the CEO and co founder of Whole Foods actually has some sense and can see the problems with our health care system and that government intervention is never a good thing. All those granola freaks just don’t know what to do. I’m not a regular customer of Whole Foods but I’ll be dropping in to support the organization now. Sent an email to the corporate headquarters to voice my support on Mackey and his right to state his opinion.
And health insurance or even health care is not a basic human right. The right to not be prevented from obtaining health care through your own efforts is.
That’s the main problem with the lefties, the whole sense of entitlement, the idea that they and everyone has the God given right to the product of other people’s efforts.
Oh, I could go on, but I’d better get to work earning the right to provide for the lazy and hapless obamatards.

What’s wrong with euphoria? You tell them next cough medicine gets extra euphoria, OK?

Yea, I’ll take euphoria over leukemia any day. And a lot of vaccines have been linked to an increased risk of leukemia and a plethora of other chronic diseases. The euphoria comment was meant as sarcasm though.

As you said, the flu kills people every year and the swine flu is actually more mild than the normal strains yet it is being presented to the people as being a pandemic that could soon become an epidemic. There is a reason for this and that reason is healthcare reform.

Unfortunately, I do think this is being somewhat sensationalized to try and get Obamacare passed. And sarcasm is my raison d’etre.

Sorry for the first commenter’s situation.

This strain of the flu hasn’t been proven to be a cause for hysteria. Every year, the old and the young are susceptible to flu strains. Every year there will be deaths attributed to a flu bug. Most are from dehydration and inability to fight the affects. I find it funny to see all the “health orgs” that are having their 15 minutes of fame by having statements and news reports about this “epidemic”.

This CDC page actually has statements claiming this situation isn’t that bad. http://www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu/ Yet their weekly influenza activity map for my state shows widespread activity. But there are no widespread reports of infections or deaths occurring in my state. So which is it? We have had 4 deaths from April to July. And now the powers that be are planning to meet to discuss how to avert this horrible outbreak. What outbreak?

What is disingenuous of the CDC’s reporting is including “influenza-like” illnesses in their counts. If it’s not influenza, it doesn’t belong in the mix.
