Obama’s regulation Czar advocates harvesting organs without permission

September 6, 2009

President Obama, as we have seen with Van Jones and John Holdren, has surrounded himself with radical czars in order to avoid the senate confirmation process and now we have learned a little bit about another of Obama’s czars. The man’s name is Cass Sunstein and he is Barack Obama’s “regulation” czar.

Cass Sunstein has advocated for the idea of the government being able to presume that a person wanted his or her organs donated after they died unless the specifically stated that they did not want their organs harvested. He condones the government harvesting of organs from people who did not consent to organ donation because he feels that people do not donate their organs because they have to choose to donate their organs. I know how stupid that statement sounds, but that is what he believes.

He feels that the government should change the law so that a person would have to choose not to have their organs donated after their death. He feels that people shouldn’t have to choose to donate, they should have to choose not to donate.

The system  set up to donate organs is fairly simple, if a person wants to donate their organs they fill out an organ donor card. That is not good enough for Obama’s “regulation” czar, he wants to be able to assume that if you did not fill out a donor card that because you didn’t specifically rule out organ donation you may still want to donate your organs. This is exactly the opposite of the way the system was supposed to work.

While this isn’t as serious as anything that either Van Jones or John Holdren has advocated in the past it does illustrate how this administration views the American people. They feel that they should be able to dictate to us how we should behave because they know what is best– even upon death.

These God Damned so-called czars have NO Constitutional authority to do anything but ADVISE the president. Power beyond that makes them cabinette level and they MUST be confirmed by the senate. The son of a bitch is usurping the constitution AGAIN!!

Criminy! I don’t know who is worse, Sunstein or Holdren. Unfortunately their uh, ridiculousness isn’t as front and center as Jones’. I’m pretty sure there are some religions who would forbid this “harvesting” with or without consent. Can you imagine, your relative just died one minute ago from a terrible accident and the doctors are getting readdy to take some vital organs out immediately? How would the doctors even address the family in this situation? THe whole thing is just way too morbid. He’d better lay off of this one.

This is not surprising to me—the government and most in it have always assumed they are smarter than the rest of us on this issue however demos are worse than republicans and radical demos are by far the worst.

The United States is a whole lot closer to an opt-out policy on organ donation than most people know. Most people think you’re assumed not to be an organ donor unless you sign up to be one. That used to be true, but it’s not any more.

Under the 2006 Uniform Anatomical Gift Act, an organ procurement organization (OPO) can assume you are an organ donor while they search for evidence of your true intentions. They can hook you up to artificial life support machines to keep your organs fresh, even if your advance healthcare directive says you don’t want artificial life support. They can hassle your family for permission to harvest your organs. They can ask a government bureaucrat for permission if they can’t find your family. They can do this even if the “organ donor” box on your driver’s license is blank.

The 2006 UAGA has been enacted in 39 states and the District of Columbia. Over 80% of the U.S. population lives in states that have enacted this law.

The 2006 UAGA stacks the deck against people who don’t want to be organ donors. Unless your decision not to donate is documented in exactly the right way, OPOs can ignore your decision. State organ donor registries, which OPOs must search under the 2006 UAGA, are biased against non-donors. None of them, not a single one, will record your decision not to donate. They literally won’t take “no” for an answer.

DoNotTransplant.com operates the only online donor registry that allows you to say “no” to organ donation in a way that will stand up under the 2006 UAGA. OPOs are required under law to check this registry. If they find your name on it, they’re legally forbidden from harvesting your organs.

I guess I’ll just have to keep on smoking and drinking and being fat. They won’t want my organs that way.

This just creeps me out and I am a donor. Might just change my mind! So, Sustein wants to harvest organs because their will be lots of people who need them even though we will be sterilizing the population thus reducing the numbers? These people’s logic doesn’t even make sense. Good grief.
