Obama to give illegals amnesty first and then healthcare

September 19, 2009

The president has claimed that illegal immigrants will not be eligible for free healthcare under his healthcare reform bill. While it was true that there was no language in the bill that allowed illegals to get healthcare insurance there was also no language that prevented illegals from getting free healthcare.

President Obama rectified the loophole that would have allowed illegal immigrants to receive healthcare when he recommended language to be added to the bill that would strictly prohibit illegal immigrants from getting healthcare. He asked that citizen verification be added to the healthcare reform bill. He added this language to appease conservatives, this is an attempt to win support for the bill.

But now he has to appease another group, this one at odds with the conservatives. In order to assuage the fear that Obama will not support healthcare for illegals he has let his true plan out of the bag. Now he is advocating a position that would subvert the citizen verification amendment to the healthcare reform bill and allow all of those who are currently in the United States gain access to free healthcare.

One of the next domestic agenda items that Barack Obama will be pushing for is comprehensive immigration reform. In other words legalizing illegal immigrants. Amnesty. The legalizing of these illegal immigrants will then make them eligible for healthcare.

Here is what the president said to the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute earlier this week:

I want to be clear: If someone is here illegally, they won’t be covered under this plan. That’s a commitment I’ve made.

Bravo! That sounds very good to me but the president was not done, he continued:

But I also want to make this clear: Even though I do not believe we can extend coverage to those who are here illegally, I also don’t simply believe we can ignore the fact that our immigration system is broken, that’s why I strongly support making sure folks who are here legally have access to affordable, quality health insurance under this plan, just like everybody else,

He is laying the foundation for combining the healthcare reform debate with the immigration reform debate making them a single issue. And then he brings it full circle:

If anything, this debate underscores the necessity of passing comprehensive immigration reform and resolving the issue of 12 million undocumented people living and working in this country once and for all

The president is trying once again to have it both ways. He is placating conservatives with the addition of language to the healthcare reform bill that would deny illegals healthcare coverage while at the same time laying the foundation that would legalize those very same illegals so that they would become eligible for healthcare  coverage.

Under Obama’s plan for a pathway to citizenship, the same horrible plan that President Bush proposed, there would no longer be any illegal aliens. While this would be a great idea if his plan “resolving the issue of 12 million undocumented people” was to deport those that are here illegally I am sorry to say that that is not the plan. The plan is to legalize the illegal aliens and then give them the healthcare coverage that they currently would not be entitled to.

Once the president was exposed on the issue of illegal immigrants being eligible for healthcare coverage he had to change his position and write language to prevent illegals from being eligible for coverage. Because of this he had to switch to plan “B”; legalizing everyone so that they would be eligible for coverage. That is, if that wasn’t the plan all along.

I certainly do to. But we stopped amnesty when President Bush tried it, we will probably have to fight that battle once again in the very near future.

To paraphrase Joe Wilson, you lie! All five health care reform proposals that have been working their way through Congress have citizenship verification provisions in them. Just because those provisions aren’t satisfactory to people like you and Wilson does NOT mean they are not there. The amendments which the Republicans have tried to add, which were voted down in committee, included such preposterous ideas as requiring doctors and nurses in emergency rooms to verify the immigration status of a patient before providing emergency medical care. As if any doctor or nurse is going to wait for some bureaurcrat to check a passport before they stop an injured child’s bleeding.

And where, exactly, are you getting your information that President Obama plans to give amnesty to all 12 million illegal immigrants in this country? Even if he did that, which he has never said that he would, the law requires a 5-year waiting period before any such person could take advantage of ANY federally subsidized programs.

Illegal immigration is a totally separate issue and yet right-wingers and the private insurance industry have been trying to piggy-back it onto the health care reform debate. They do this because they know it is a hot button for many Americans and it will sabotage any real hope for reform. In short, it is dishonest and cynical politics. Any future immigration reform would have to meet the approval of both Houses of Congresses and it would be viewed within the context of any newly instituted health care reform. So, the suggestion that even a few immigrants who might have been granted amnesty would be able to get health care without paying for it is positively clairvoyant.

We have a definite problem with poor people in Mexico sneaking into this country for work. Using that as reason to deny a single American citizen affordable health care is … unAmerican.

First, I don’t think that you paraphrased Joe Wilson. I think that was a direct quote, but that is not here nor there.

Second, I wrote that President Obama released a memo asking that the citizen verification language was to be added to the bill. I acknowledge that the language is now there, I did in my post.

Third, President Obama supports immigration reform that allows for a “pathway to citizenship.” That is amnesty for illegal aliens. It is the same postion that President Bush held. I was against it then and I am against it now. Where you opposed to it when it was proposed by Bush? I have been consistant on this issue.

Fourth, I never said that illegals who were granted amnesty would immediatly be eligible for healthcare. The president is more than willing to wait the five years as long as in the end he insures the people who are currently illegal.

Fifth, I agree that immigration and healthcare reform should be seperate issues. You claim that right wingers are trying to combine the two issues. Perhaps you didn’t have the time to read the article that I linked to, and perhaps you didn’t read Obama’s quotes in my post. Obama said when talking about healthcare reform:

“If anything, this debate underscores the necessity of passing comprehensive immigration reform and resolving the issue of 12 million undocumented people living and working in this country once and for all”

Those were Obama’s words and he can hardly be labeled as a right winger.

Sixth, shouldn’t the poor people who are sneaking into this country illegally be given the healthcare that you propose they deserve by their own country? There is nothing un-American about protecting our borders against this invasion.

This all came up in the last immigration debate. What are you going to do, deport families back to Mexico who have been living here for the last decade? Instead of tossing out criticism, come up with a realistic solution that has some semblance of humanity. And, again, this topic does not belong in a discussion about health care reform. Unless we compartmentalize the enormous problems faced by this country we will be paralyzed and never get anything done. It’s why we have gridlock in Congress year after year. Time to focus and move forward.

Yes actually I would send them back when they are caught. And I agree that this topic should be seperate from healthcare reform but you are missing the fact that Obama is the one who tied them together in front of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute.

I see “we the people” defeating health care reform, in the form it is being pushed. I also see cap and tax slamming head-on into a brick wall that is us. If they are stupid enough to try to pass this one, they will get their heads handed to them. Illegal immigration reform is the one issue likely to throw this country into an all out war. Both sides better be God Damned careful how they tackle this one.

You are right Mr. Pink Eyes and Mr. johnrjo8 is full of crap. Obama tried to ram his health care reform ideas up our collective asses and the right wingers actually read the shit that was in the bill. Obama is paying the price now because he thought it would get done before anyone could put up a fight. This has cost Obama in terms of the people’s trust, and I hope they have enough sense not to give it back to him. He is unworthy of it.

Yep, he tried to pass this before the recess so that we wouldn’t see what was in this bill. Now the American people have seen what is in the bill and they are awakened. This president is losing the trust of the American people.

You need to pick up a newspaper, other than the National Enquirer and Gun Digest, so you can get your facts straight. President Obama has said from the beginning that he wanted a bill on his desk by the end of the year. All he wanted before the summer recess that they be out of committee. And the only reason he said that was because he and few million other Americans believe that a century is long enough to wait for meaningful health care reform in this country.

So which of the five proposals that have been in committee did these “right wingers actually read”? And how have they managed to keep up with all the amendments? (One proposal has more than 500). Couldn’t have been President Obama’s proposal because he hasn’t written one yet. And which of those bills is President Obama trying “to ram… up our collective asses”? These people have been working on their proposals for months. How long do you think it should take? Another 20 years? Of course, by that time, premiums, deductibles and co-pays will have tripled and no small businesses will be able to offer employees a health benefit. Sadly, I would have to agree that the President has lost the trust of some people. But the reason for that loss of trust is a $1.4 million daily campaign of disinformation and scare tactics. The fact is, no health care reform plan that this president came up with would be acceptable to people like you. You are so hog-tied by your own ideology that you’re incapable of listening to the facts. So you sit back here and say I’m “full of crap” while it is clear as day that you have not got one clue what you’re talking about.

Yes. I think Mexico has the collective intellectual capacity to get it together and provide health care for it citizens. Are they inclined to do so? Not while a free handout is available here.

I have always wondered why we are so concerned about sending “ILLEGALS” back to their country of origin. I guarantee you, if it were you and I, and we were in there country illegally, we’d be deported. Period. They don’t mess around.

To clarify this issue – here are Obama’s exact words – and yes – they will all become legal.

“As you know there’s been a little controversy about who exactly will be covered under reform,” said Obama. “I want to be clear: If someone is here illegally, they won’t be covered under this plan. That’s a commitment I’ve made.

“But I also want to make this clear: Even though I do not believe we can extend coverage to those who are here illegally, I also don’t simply believe we can ignore the fact that our immigration system is broken,” the president said.

“That’s why I strongly support making sure folks who are here legally have access to affordable, quality health insurance under this plan, just like everybody else,” he added. “And we certainly should not let this debate on health care–one that’s so essential to Hispanic Americans and all Americans–get side tracked by those looking to exploit division and kill reform at any cost. That’s what they always try to do.

“If anything, this debate underscores the necessity of passing comprehensive immigration reform and resolving the issue of 12 million undocumented people living and working in this country once and for all,”

Oh, and here is the video as well.
    http://www.cnsnews.com/news/article/54230

I think what gets lost in the illegal immigration rhetoric is that we are still a country of laws, and it is illegal in our country to cross the border, or overstay a visa without permission. The fringe media is always trying to gain support by appealing to our pathos instead of realizing that if you come here illegally then you suffer the consequences of your decisions.

You know, this situation is horrible for the illegal aliens. The are in constant fear of getting caught, they are taken advantage of because individuals know they are illegal, they can’t attain the American dream, etc. It is for their best interest that they enter our country legal so all the benefits of America can be afforded them. They idea that they can enter illegally and then we reward them with those benefits anyway, is asinine at best.

We got screwed royally on the porkulus bill. We let them railroad that piece of shit through without anyone reading it, BUT, we will NOT let that happen again. By keeping their feet to the fire, we will win on the 3 most devastating bills to come before congress in a long long time. Healthcare reform, cap and tax, and of course illegal immigration reform.

It’s a BIG DIRTY job, but someone has to do it!

I liked john’s idea too, send them all home. And offer free ONE-WAY bus transportation to the other side of the border to him and the rest of the nutjobs like him if they hate America so much. Caveat–they can’t come back!

Obama is one of the most generous guys in the world. Supporting distribution of US wealth through the UN to third world coutries, distribution of wealth in the US, yep, the guy is the picture of generosity. Just one hitch, it’s with your and my money, our children’s future. In reality the guy doesn’t even uphold US laws when it is his own family. Yep, his Aunt lives off welfare provided by you and me, not his. He believes we are our brother’s keeper, cept him of coruse. I guess he and Michele just can’t replace that quality religion he got from Rev. Wright, you know the sermons he attended but never heard? How stupid can one country be to vote for this fraud. Of course he promotes giving a path to citizenship to illeagls, it’s easy and hey, it’s just more of your money, not his and it does give him more non taxpaying people to vote for him and his generosity. Please make Obama a one term President before we have lost all our freedoms and have become responsibile for people all over the world to live a particular standard of life. He just doesn’t seem to care about the people he is taking away from. My children deserve a chance too. I deserve to retire with a certain amount of security I’ve built for myself without it being taken away. This guys a real Robin Hood but the rich will get tired of him robbing them and move out of this country, the middle class will slip down to poverty under his programs and well the poor, they just keep getting those handouts as incentive to stay right where they are and vote democrat to keep those checks coming in the mail. If you don’t live in California or Arizona, you simply do not realize the severity of this illegal problem. It’s horrible. California goverment has sanctioned providing for the illegals for cheap labor to the point that we are now bankruped. 14 billion in 2008. 14 billion that could have gone to schools, the elderly, the diabled, but no, for the price of cheap labor we turned our backs on these citizens and paid for hundreds of anchor babies, medicare for the family, section 8 housing, education for the illegals, free school lunches and of course they have bankruped many of our hospitals. Illegal immigration has got to be stopped. To my knowledge even though we know 75-80% of our illegals come from Mexico, not one penny has been asked of the Mexican Government to help the cost burdon of them being in the US, not one cent. Vote out any representatives who vote for amnesty, vote out Obama. Vote out Harry Reid, and Nancy who says that our immigration laws are “unamerican.” Get rid of these leaches.

Maggie – I lived in Phoenix for 10 months and was overwhelmed by the crime and illegals. Never saw anything like it. I was reviewing my youtube videos last night and I stumbled across a special that had been done on Phoenix. Most people don’t realize that Phoenix is the kidnapping capital…not of the US…but of the world! If that isn’t scare and doesn’t require some massive intervention, I don’t know what does.

You know what is amazing to me is that people like Obama want to “spread the wealth,” yet they don’t “spread the wealth” in their own pocket book. Recent studies show that conservatives out give liberals something like 3-1! Yet they preach about helping these people with our money. I wish I could tell them to put their own money where there mouth is and then I might consider their point of view.

I think there are enough left wingers that to achieve what they wish, health care for free for the poor and the illegals. Now I say poor when in reality many people are poor because the system encourages them to stay that way. Lazy, disabled because of fictitious ailments, too drugged to make it to work, etc, are all in this pc category of poor.

Anyway, the left wingers need to pool all their money (not anyone’s who doesn’t want to contribute) and support free clinics for whomever it is they feel needs free health care. That way only the people who believe that health care is a constiutional right would be funding and providing for illegals who come here to have huge families and sign up for social services, the lazy, and those who have very interesting ailments (my Grandparents would laugh at what many feel is an ailment that would keep them from work)that keep them in front of a TV or on the streets selling drugs for under the table money. Let the people who really believe in this fund it. Let the people who cannot afford to take care of others or those who do not want to take care of others refrain from the not-for-profit organization the left wingers would fund. If we have to spread the wealth around, lets be selective.

Oh that’s not fair you say? Everyone should participate in the objectives of taking care of everyone else? I think the left wingers want to force everyone into their pitiful causes and it is my right to refrain from your socialist ideas.
