Lindsay Graham supports the cap and trade bill

October 11, 2009

Once the healthcare reform debate is behind us there are a couple of more battles that we must fight–illegal immigration and climate change. The House has already passed its climate change bill but it has disappeared in the senate amidst the healthcare debate. It has been forgotten about but it is not gone. Recently the talks about acting on the climate change legislation have begun to resurface. It appears as though the senate will tackle this legislation next as it is farther along in the process.

Senator Lindsay Graham has co-written a piece for the New York Times along with John Kerry in which he gives his support for the climate change legislation. The legislation that they are proposing has some good ideas in it– building more nuclear plants and more domestic exploration for oil– but the problem remains that an “aggressive” cap and trade proposal remains in this bill.

Apparently Lindsay Graham is supporting the cap and trade portion of this legislation. John Kerry has been a leading proponent in this tax system so I can only guess that if Lindsay Graham is teaming up with John Kerry that he sympathizes with John Kerry’s cap and trade position. The same goes for another Republican– John McCain. John McCain is also working with John Kerry in trying to force this tax on the American people.

Democrats support for the House bill has been described as mild at best so this is a win for Democrats who will need Republican support to pass any cap and tax legislation. Unfortunately Lindsay Graham just won re-election last year so by the time of his re-election bid the voters may have forgotten about this. At least he is hoping that they will.

This bill still has a long way to go before it ever becomes law. There are some good portions of this bill but the fact remains that this whole bill focuses around the cap and trade aspect of the bill.

As long as cap and trade remains in the bill I can not support it. The cap and trade portion of this bill looks like it will play the same role that the “public option” portion of the healthcare bill has been playing. This will be the part of  the bill that people and politicians either rally to or run from.

The debate on this bill has not begun yet but it is coming. It is never too early to start calling and writing your representatives. We are going to have to be heard on this issue as loudly as we can be. I think that this bill still faces some huge hurdles. Surely the far left will disagree with the oil exploration and the increased nuclear plants while the right will oppose cap and trade, but we can’t remain silent.

We can’t afford to have more Republicans come out in support of cap and trade, let them know that we are watching them.

I have to agree, as long as the cap and trade portion of this legislation remains intact, there is no way I can support it. I wrote and article back in June concerning the effects of this policy on Americans and from what I can gather, it is not going to be a pretty sight if it passes.

That was a great article that you posted, I hadn’t even thought of how the prices of everything would go up as the cost of energy rose. A great point by you!

Thanks, Mr Pink Eyes. We are fooling ourselves if we begin to believe that anyone besides the end consumer of energy will be picking up the tab if this legislation is passed. I could give many examples of how that will be true.

“Gramnesty” Graham. Well, the citizens have a little tool called a recall if they’re so inclined.

Anyone who supports Climate Change is saying Man can regulate the temperature of the earth.
Even if a thousand nuclear bombs were droped evenly scattered across the globe the “earth” would not care one bit.
Good! says the earth, if man cannot abide that’s His problem.

Man is so narcissistic…Everything is about Man…
It reminds me of the saying
For here we have no lasting city
That implies our city does not last here even though we might have one temporarily.
    God Bless the founders

I don’t know about the *vote em ALL out* mantra… Most would be more appropriate actually, not ALL Congressmen and Senators are bad, but most are seriously in need of retirement!

I agree with you on this one Texas Fred. While a large turnover would be good there are still some conservatives in the house that do not deserve to be voted out. We must rid ourselves of the right ones.

I hadn’t heard about Graham, but honestly it doesn’t surprize me considering some of this past positions on other issues. Like you I see nothing good in the Cap and Trade legislation. I do support off shore drilling and more nuclear plants, but if they must be tied to something like this cap and trade that would absolutely destroy the American economy I’ll have to take a pass.

True Ron, if nuclear plants and oil drilling are tied to cap and trade than there is no point in authorizing wither nuclear plants or oil drilling. Passing cap and trade will negate the good that would come from oil drilling and nuclear plants so why bother.

All RINO’S need to be removed or change over to the Dems. If GOP wants any chance in 2010 they need to clean their own house and get back to real conservative principles which is supporting the Constitution with ALL of the Bill of Rights and stop all support of any RINO any Where!

I’m fed up to here with all the weasels in the party, McCain, Graham, Dole etc….and I have all ready stopped sending the GOP any money and I’m just short of changing to Indy if they keep on going moderate/Left.

The U.S. of A. is in deep doo doo with Barry boy and his leftwing loons and time is getting short to put up a wall to slow him down or stop him. All the RINO’s just make it harder and they need to be dumped NOW not later.

We need to take a lesson from the “Greatest Generation”. Is there anyone out there who knows or can understand what defineD them, and can translate what they stood for and apply it to what we are facing today??? If we as a people have the power of election, then we can do something about this. However, it doesn’t stop there. We must stop supporting the media to force them to stop supporting ANY political party, and to report the UNBIASED TRUTH!
