President Obama loses two climate change battles

October 27, 2009

Today President Obama lost two battles in his effort to save the world from the trumped up climate change crisis and it was Democrats who dealt him the loses.

Democrats were forced to hand over concessions on legislation that would have allowed the EPA to regulate the dairy and hog industry as well as the several Great Lakes steamships that would have been required to reduce their carbon footprints.

The Environmental Protection Agency would be effectively barred from mandating the reporting of greenhouse gas emissions generated by large-scale cattle, dairy and hog producers. In addition, 13 Great Lakes cargo steamships won a last-minute exemption from a proposed rule to require lower-sulfur fuel to reduce harmful emissions.

While these concessions are only for one year, it could show the beginning of a fissure within the Democrat party as leadership tries to balance their climate change agenda with the faltering economy.

It is interesting to note that this is an admission that climate change legislation will be a drain on the overall economy regardless of the administration’s spin that climate change legislation will open up all sorts of new “green” job opportunities. When push came to shove the Democrats did not dare to enact legislation that would so obviously adversely effect the ability of their constituents to earn a living. This should be a lesson to us all about what kind of effect climate change legislation will have on the economy.

Some of the changes they are looking to implement are very radical and will be very difficult for them to push through. My prediction is that some of these agendas will see very little movement until after health care reform is either voted up or down. They may also wait until Obama’s 2nd term, if he wins in 2012. If that happens, look for them to push very hard to get some of these things done. After all, what will they have to lose?

You are one of the most realistic people on the blogs. A lot of people are taking it as a *given* that Obama is a one term failure. He may be. He may NOT be…

It all hinges on the strength or weakness of a GOP ticket.. Do another washed up old fart and Sarah Palin ticket and it’s 4 more years of Obama… America can’t stand 4 more years of Obama, but if the GOP doesn’t pull it collective heads out of whatever ass they have them up, it’s a sad day for the home team…

I agree, if the Republicans field a weak candidate Obama will win re-election. I also agree about Sarah Palin, while I think that she is a conservative I don’t think that she can win a national election.

Thanks, TF. I have felt this way for a long time. To think Obama is going to be gone in four years is very naive. We have a lot of work to do if that is to happen.

The Republican Party needs to be careful about who wins the nomination in 2012. I am not sure if we need someone new or what would be best, but give us another McCain/Palin and we might as well save our money and not even field a candidate.

If the Republicans nominate anything close to McCain/Palin Obama will run away in the election. The biggest problem facing the Republicans in 2012 is who will step up to be the conservative voice. If it is Sarah Palin we are doomed. I don’t know wh is out there that will be a legitimate candidate but they had better start getting heard next year.

Even the healthcare bill will not be implemented until 2012, I honestly believe that this is intentional in case it is a disaster. They want to ensure Obama’s re-election before people can judge how healthcare reform worked out.

This is good news I hadn’t heard before. Seems that some in the Democrat Party have some sense or are at least worried about the next election. After all being re-elected trumps idealogy–even a radicals. The next presidental election will hinge on the economy if it is good at that time Obama will win and if not he will lose.

Re-election and keeping their power is what they care about most, most of the time that is bad news when we are talking about Democrats but this is the rare intstance where it worked out well.
I agree with you about the economy, that could be what Obama’s re-election hinges on.
