New Hampshire Republicans begin to push back against healthcare mandates

March 23, 2010

New Hampshire Republicans are beginning to push back against the healthcare reform bill and the battle starts tomorrow when my former United States representative, Jeb Bradley, introduces a bill that would shield New Hampshire residents from the healthcare mandates that are included in the healthcare reform bill that Barack Obama signed into law today.

Jeb Bradley lost his re-election bid to moonbat Carol Shea-Porter in 2006 and lost a bid to regain his seat in 2008 before winning a state rep seat in a special election earlier this year. The tide may be turning in New Hampshire and Republicans are looking to take advantage of it– this is the first step in doing so.

Here is some of the language in the bill that will be proposed by Jeb Bradley tomorrow:

No resident of this state, regardless of whether he or she has or is eligible for health insurance coverage under any policy or program provided by or through his or her employer, or a plan sponsored by the state or the federal government, shall be required to obtain or maintain a policy of individual insurance coverage except as required by a court or the department of health and human services where an individual is named a party in a judicial or administrative proceeding.”It also says:

“No provision of this title shall render a resident of this state liable for any penalty, assessment, fee, or fine as a result of his or her failure to procure or obtain health insurance coverage

Meanwhile– in what should be no surprise to New Hampshire voters– Governor John Lynch has refused to say whether he is in agreement with the healthcare bill or against it. In typical Lynch fashion, he is riding the fence while claiming to be undecided. This is his MO on all contentious bills, he does not lead, he simply waits for the debate to end before making a decision and then comes down on the liberal side. This will be no different, he will come out in favor of the healthcare mandates and will not side with the bill to protect New Hampshire’s residents from being forced to buy healthcare coverage that they either do not want or cannot afford.

It feels good to know that there are some people in our state government who are ready to step up to the plate on this issue. It will probably go nowhere right now, but we must make sure that we pay attention to who votes against the Jeb Bradley bill and then in November we must vote against them.

Thanks for sharing this news with us, Mr. Pink Eyes. I am becoming more and more convinced that the states are the best battleground in fighting against this unconstitutional legislation.

By the way, check your Hotmail account. I sent you an email this afternoon.

My pleasure Larry, I am getting a good feeling about New Hampshire in November, I hope that I am not let down. I also feel that this battle will be played out in the states, it is going to be interesting.
I am going to check my hotmail account right now, I really don’t check it nearly as i should, thank you for letting me know or who knows when I would have checked it again.

Good luck with your state law. I am so lucky to be in Virginia where we’ve got Bob Marshall, http://delegatebob.com, and Ken Cuccinelli. VA passed that anti-mandate law, and AG is filing suit. Interesting times indeed. For the first time, perhaps, the issue of states rights will not be weighed down with the shameful burdens of its past?

Thanks, the Republicans need the votes of three Democrats to push this forward. This makes me more optimistic that I was before as surely there must be tree Democrats who are afraid of their re-election chnaces. At least I hope so.
Me and my family love Virginia, if we ever decided to move that is the state that we would move to. We shall see how the state’s rights angle plays out although we have seen over the years the erosion of state’s rights over the years.

I hope this state-rights issue works, but as a southerner I’ve seem many such movements over the years in the civil rights struggle be crushed in the courts and even in some cases by the weight of the U.S. Armed forces being used against the civilian population. Those on the left are fully aware of the history and have little fear of “states rights’ having any success. Maybe this time around the outcome will be different.

On a seperate note, wouldn’t it be nice to see the republicans gain control in the senate and block all Obama’s appointees to the SCOTUS next year should someone retire.

Still upset about that whole war of “Northern agression” thing huh? 🙂 Seriously though, you make a good point as state’s rights have evaporated over the years and there is probably not much hope that the argument will hold water, but we still do hold a 5-4 majority so one can never tell.
The Republicans gaining control in November is key and I hadn’t even thought of it in terms of Obama’s Supreme Court nominees but that is just another reason why we need to gain control as soon as possible.
