Bob Casey introduces a union bailout bill

May 25, 2010

Senator Bob Casey– Democrat from Pennsylvania– has introduced a $165 billion dollar bill that would bailout the union pension funds at the expense of tax paying Americans. That is $165 billion as of right now, these pensions have to be paid out until the recipients die, so the end cost to the taxpayers could be unlimited, there is no telling how much this bill will cost us before all is said and done.

A hearing is scheduled about this bill on Thursday, as of yet it is undetermined how much support this bill will receive. Barack Obama has already stated that there will be no more bailouts, but it remains to be seen if he can resist supporting a bill that would be a major payout to one of the Democrats’ biggest special interest groups– the unions. I highly doubt he would have the guts to oppose legislation that would help his biggest campaign contributors if this bill does eventually make it to his desk.

I am sorry that these people’s pensions are in danger, but I cannot understand how it has become the responsibility of taxpaying Americans– non-union and union members whose pensions are not in danger– to pay for the troubled pensions that were negotiated in good faith between a union and the employer. If these pensions cannot be paid, it is not the fault of Average Americans and the burden should not fall on them.

I have to believe that if this bill ever becomes law the American people will see it for what it really is– a huge kickback to one of the special interest groups responsible for putting Barack Obama in office in the first place.

Sooner or later the American people have to say enough is enough, this would be a good time to do so. The bailouts have failed, this one will fail also. America is bankrupt, we cannot afford this, and we do not deserve this.

Andy Stern must have “had a conversation” with him. You know, the Chicago way.
