White House refuses to release documents about the BP oil spill, while James Carville slams Obama’s lack of leadership
The chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee– Edolphus Towns– requested the documents from the White House that concern the BP oil rig explosion. Not only was he not provided with those documents, the White House never even acknowledged the request.
Edolphus Towns is not very happy about it and he let his displeasure known in a letter that he sent to Interior Secretary Ken Salazar:
After repeated phone calls by Committee staff, we were informed today that the requested information and records will not be produced any time soon and that no estimate can be provided as to when the committee will receive this information
While I understand that your agency and the Minerals Management Service are under a great deal of pressure at the moment, to have this request ignored is simply unacceptable
I understand that the Obama regime has its hands full trying to ignore the oil spill while attempting to defend the president’s lack of caring about this issue, and that releasing these documents would not allow them to ignore the growing discontent with Barack Obama’s non-handling of this crisis, but enough is enough already. It is time for Barack Obama to take responsibility for his failings during this crisis.
Even Democrats are beginning to turn Obama for his non-caring attitude in this matter, and this is just one example. James Carville– of all people– is wondering what the hell the president is thinking.
The “political stupidity is unbelievable,” Democratic strategist James Carville said on “Good Morning America” today. “The president doesn’t get down here in the middle of this. … I have no idea of why they didn’t seize this thing. I have no idea of why their attitude was so hands off here.”
And it just looks like he’s not involved in this! Man, you have got to get down here and take control of this
I am about to write words that I never in a million years thought that I ever would; James Carville is right!
I understand that nobody understood how damaging this oil spill was going to be, but we are more than one month into this crisis and oil is still spilling into the Gulf of Mexico. This is unacceptable, the president can point his finger at BP all that he wants and proclaim they are responsible for solving the problem, but the fact remains that the federal government has sat idly by when they could have provided some help in containing the spill, and he is responsible for this. He had a chance to be a leader on this issue and he has failed miserably.
That is why the White House is reluctant to release the documents related to the BP oil spill.

I would disagree that no body knew how bad this oil spill was going to be. I bet Sarah Palin and her oil/gas people had a very good idea.

How about this; if we had allowed BP, and others, to drill on dry land, as well as in shallow waters, the spill would have never been this bad. It is the depth that is the technical challenge.

The damned environmentalists have pushed us so far offshore that when there is a problem, it is much harder to fix and causes even more damage to the environment than would have happened if we were allowed to drill on land. Again, the unintended consequences.

Regarding Carville: Even a blind hog finds an acorn on occasion…
Matt is correct, the depth of the wellhead is the problem, at 5,000 feet they are in a position that no one has ever explored nor contemplated this type of disaster…
One thing is a certainty, there will be permanent damage the likes of which won’t be seen for years to come, but there is a ton of technology being developed as we speak…
But, at what cost??

I offer the concept that Obama wants this get as bad as possible, then take advantage of it with crappy legislation like cap and trade. Personally I think Obama needs his head examined.
