Democrats cut $12 billion from food stamps in order to pay off the teachers unions

August 11, 2010

Yesterday Nancy Pelosi called House members back into session in order to quickly pass the state bailout bill. Originally I thought that the reason for the quick action on this bill was twofold. The first reason being the fact that they wanted to give a quick kickback to Democrat special interest groups shortly before an election in an attempt to buy votes; the second reason being the fact that this was an attempt to mask exactly how bad the economy–and Barack Obama’s economic policy–is. By providing the states these funds states are not going to have to make tough decisions and budget cuts right before an election. This money is probably just enough to hold off these tough decisions and layoffs until after the election to fool the American people into believing the economy isn’t as bad as we know that it is.

But upon further review it has become obvious to me that the reason Democrats were in such a rush to pass this bill is actually threefold.

In order for Democrats to claim that this new bailout bill is “deficit neutral” Democrats had to do two things. First, they had to raise taxes on the evil, bloodsucking, greedy businesses–you know, those same businesses that provide goods, services, and jobs to average Americans. We all knew that the anti capitalist socialists in the Democrat party would do something like this so this needs no further explanation. But secondly, the Democrats–in a move that they always warn Republicans are going to make– had to cut $12 billion in food stamp funds. This comes on the heels of the news that more Americans have applied for food stamps then ever before.

This is the third reason for the quick action on the state bailout bill; they needed to pass this bill before the people realized that Democrats were cutting $12 billion from an entitlement program that helps the most needy among us.

Now that this news has been made public–albeit too late–some Democrats and advocacy groups are bemoaning the food stamp cuts.

I fought very hard for the food assistance money in the Recovery Act, and the fact is that participation in the food stamps program has jumped dramatically with the economic crisis, from 31.1 million persons to 38.2 million just in one year

  And:

While we support the education initiatives (in the bill), we adamantly oppose using food stamps to pay for them,” said James Weill, president of the Food Research and Action Center. “The rain on food stamps to pay for other things absolutely has to stop and stop now”

I find it extremely interesting that the “party of the little people” and the party that always intimidates senior citizens at election time by claiming that Republicans are going to steal their social security funds, would turn around and steal the funds that so many poor Americans are dependent on for their very survival.

I also can’t help but wonder what type of fiery rhetoric the Democrats would be using had it been Republicans who had voted to take the food out of the mouths of the one in six children who are growing up in poverty.

The hypocrisy of the Democrats is in full display here; they continually claim that they are the party that cares about the people, and they continually claim that the Republican party doesn’t care about the people. Yet when push came to shove and the Democrats had to chose between the unions and the little people, they chose the unions over the little people.

Good post, Steve. The Democrats are really stretching on this one and I am hopeful it will come back to haunt them in November. Considering the fast one they seem to be trying to pull by cutting back on spending for food stamps, it really should backfire.

Thanks Larry! I just couldn’t let this story go with one post. When I think about the lies the Democrats spew about Republican cuts, and then I watch them actually make the cuts that they warn people the Republicans are going to make it drives me insane! I hope people are paying attention to this.
