Two New Hampshire Democrats resign after Sarah Palin death wish comments
As I wrote about yesterday, Keith Halloran–a Democrat running for the New Hampshire House–posted on his opponent’s Facebook page a statement lamenting the fact that Sarah Palin and Levy[sic] were not aboard the downed plane that killed former Alaskan Senator Ted Stevens.
This led promptly to most New Hampshire Democrats to denounce this vile statement. Kathy Sullivan–a former chairman of the New Hampshire Democrat Party–quickly called for his resignation as a candidate for office, and urged voters to write in another candidate is he refused to resign.
I said most Democrats denounced Keith Halloran’s statement, but not all of them did. Instead of denouncing Halloran’s statement, Timothy Horrigan–a sitting New Hampshire state representative who is running for re-election–posted on his Facebook page that “a dead Palin would be even more dangerous than a live one.”
His theory is that if Sarah Palin was killed in a plane crash she would become a martyr of sorts within the Republican party, and that she would also not have the opportunity to commit more gaffes which would help Democrats.
The insensitivity here is astounding. His first reaction when he heard about Keith Halloran’s statement was not to denounce it, and his first reaction was not to offer condolences to the families of those who lost loved ones; his first thought was to explain to Keith Halloran that Sarah Palin’s death may actually have had adverse effects on his party’s re-election bids. He put party politics ahead of personal tragedy, and that is disgusting–not as disgusting as Keith Halloran’s comment, but pretty close.
After his statement was made public, Timothy Horrigan wasted no time in resigning as a New Hampshire state representative and announced he would no longer seek re-election.
But still the originator of this controversy hung on and declared that he would continue to campaign and would not drop out of the race. He stubbornly hung on for as long as he could, but as pressure mounted Keith Halloran finally announced that he was “suspending his campaign.”
I am not the biggest Sarah Palin fan as a national candidate, but there is something about her that drives liberals to the point where some of them actually wish for her death. She gets under their skin to the point where they begin to think and act irrationally, and this is a perfect example of that.
And this is coming from the party that preaches tolerance, where was the tolerance for a differing political view in Keith Halloran’s comment? Keith Halloran and Timothy Horrigan let raw emotion and hatred cloud their minds and New Hampshire is much better off without them.
Excellent post Steve. The Dems are not tolerant of anyone that disagrees. They desire their supporters to be drones that simply nod their head, drink the kool aid, and agree with them on all matters. If you fall out of line or if you are an opponent they have a zero tolerance policy.

Thanks John! I think it is because they have that attitude where they honestly believe they know better than us what is good for us. They are elitists and they actually can’t understand why not everybody sees how smart they are.

I live in South Dakota, not New Hampshire but I think everyone has the right to my opinion!
I sent Mr Halloran a little Facebook message. Here is our exchange:
Me: August 11 at 9:29pm Whether one loves Sarah Palin or hates her, she would NEVER say anything remotely resembling the filth that people who claim to be Americans spew about her. Shame on you. .
Him: August 11 at 9:38pm Sorry … I hear the Tea Pot boiling over …

Great idea! I wonder how many others were doing the same. I am sure this is part of the reason he realized he had to step down.

The maturity level of most Democrats these days is about 14. I’d be surprised if they weren’t all still living in their Mom’s basement. Vile bunch of idiots.

I beg to differ, my boys were much more mature than these people when they were 14. 🙂

I agree completely Steve. These comments are sadly more and more typical of the left. To publicly wish for the death of another goes beyond politics. It’s a complete lack of class and maturity.

They really became bitter over the Bush years but you would think that now that they are in power they woiuld be happier, but they aren’t. I guess it is because people are finding out what they really stand for.
