After six years the Justice Department ends its probe into Tom Delay

August 16, 2010

Known once as the man who would aggressively push forward President Bush’s agenda Tom Delay naturally became a target of the left. Tom Delay was an effective House majority leader and as such the Democrats knew that they must rid themselves of his presence.

When the news broke of possible ties between Tom Delay and jailed former lobbyist Jack Abramoff game to light Democrats quickly seized on this opportunity and were able to force Tom Delay to resign.

Today, after a SIX YEAR (think about that for a moment, they have tried to pin something on him for six years and still turned up empty) investigation, the Department of Justice has finally dropped its investigation into Tom Delay. While Tom Delay still faces trial on criminal charges related to campaign contributions, this does bring to the forefront an example of the extreme hypocrisy that is sometimes displayed by members on the left.

Tom Delay was forced by Democrats to resign in disgrace on merely the charge that he might have done something wrong–before anything was proven. Many of these same Democrats are still in congress and they flock to the defence of people like Charlie Rangel and Maxine Waters, who have actually been indicted by the Ethics Committee of violations. Some of these very same Democrats who were screaming for Tom Delay’s resignation based solely on charges are now claiming that Charlie Rangel and Maxine Waters should not resign unless they are found guilty of the charges brought forth.

In the case of Tom Delay these Democrats were unwilling to let him continue to serve his term because of the “seriousness of the charges” yet are perfectly willing to let Charlie Rangel and Maxine Waters not only serve their terms in light of the “seriousness of the charges” but to also stand for re-election.

This post is not meant as a defense of Tom Delay, as he still faces criminal prosecution, but is meant simply to highlight the differing morals and standards of the Democrats, who have obviously put politics and partisanship ahead of doing what is right for the country.

To paraphrase Ray Donovan, where does Tom Delay go to get his reputation back?

I believe that when ever there is a investigation into corruption he or she should loose all their power in congress and be bared until the investigation is over.NO sweet deals and a private team dose the investigating not people from congress.Thats the problem they have their own laws.Chris Dodd,Barny Frank, and many more who are corrupt and keep there jobs. These are said days in America, but with our strength and faith in God we will prevail.

I agree, once an investigation is started there is no way that the personshould be able to hold power until after their name is cleared.

Dropping the investigation doesn’t clear DeLay, you said so yourself. Separation of powers also refers to the relationship between the national government and each state. Just because something isn’t a federal crime doesn’t mean it’s not a state crime. Murder, for example, isn’t a federal crime except in certain narrow circumstances, but it’s a crime in every state.

And I know you’re not saying that DeLay should have been permitted to retain his seat just because he wasn’t guilty of any federal crimes.

I get the sense that this case was last investigated actively quite a while ago, and that closing it now simply makes official something that most recognized quite a while back – whatever laws he broke were state, not federal.

As I said, I am not defending Tom Delay, I was just trying to point out how much more tolerant the Democrats seem to be when member of their own party are under investigation.
