Ground Zero mosque imam said sanctions against Iraq were an act of terror

August 24, 2010

The hits just keep on coming for the imam behind the building of the Ground Zero mosque–Feisal Abdul Rauf–this time for having stated that the sanctions against Iraq were an act of terrorism.

We must understand, terrorism is any act of violence which is waged on non-combatants or civilians with a political objective

He uttered those words while speaking about the United Nations imposed sanctions on Iraq. I would ask Feisal Abdul Rauf whether or not he considered Saddam Hussein a terrorist–besides the horrible acts he authorized during his reign, the wood chipper comes to mind here–after all, didn’t Saddam Hussein take the money from the “oil for food program” he was supposed to use to feed Iraqis and use it instead to enrich himself? According to Feisal Abdul Rauf’s definition of terrorism, that scandal alone would qualify Saddam Hussein as a terrorist.

When asked why more moderate Muslims have not spoken out against the radicalized Muslims, Feisal Abdul Rauf stated that the sanctions against Iraq had done nothing other than to fuel anger in the Muslim world towards the United States. If this were entirely true, wouldn’t the “oil for food” scandal have done much the same in regards to the way the average Muslim viewed Saddam Hussein? Why is it that so many people are forgetting exactly the type of butcher this madman was?

According to Feisal Abdul Rauf  moderate Muslims have not spoken out against the terrorist attacks on September 11th  because they feel terrorized by the United States’ and the United Nations’ sanctions in Iraq following the Gulf war–in other words their sympathies lie with Iraq and not with the United States. This is an indictment of moderate Muslims, and one that I am not ready to agree with. I still think it is more likely that moderate Muslims have not spoken out against the attacks to due fear of retribution from the radicalized Muslims.

And that is not all that Feisal Abdul Rauf has had to say in the recent past; less than one month after September 11th this is what the good imam had to say:

In an NBC “Today” interview less than a month after 9/11, he told Katie Couric that Osama bin Laden primarily focused on issues including “the innocent victims in Palestine, the innocent victims, the women and children are being killed as a result of sanctions against Iraq or as a result of American bombing of … Iraq.”

This man obviously harbors ill will toward the United States; he speaks over and over again about the innocent victims of the war on terror–and I am not denying that innocent people have died, it is unfortunate but it is part of war and we did not choose this war, it was thrust upon us–and he has used that position to defend the attacks on September 11th.

Now he wants to build a mosque on the site where thousands of innocent victims lost their lives and we are supposed to think that he does not feel some sence of accomplishment that he is about to rub the noses of the victim’s families in the rubble?

He sees this as an opportunity at retribution for the innocent Muslims who have lost their lives, he is looking to spite all of us who consider Ground Zero sacred ground, as well as the final resting place of those whose bodies were never found, and he is doing solely as payback because of all the wrongs he feels the United States has perpetrated on innocent Muslims. That alone is the reason why he wants to build this mosque so close to where innocent Americans perished–an eye for an eye, he wants to avenge the innocent lost lives of Muslims by provoking those families of the innocent victims of September 11th. He seems to forget that civilians were not the target of United States’ aggression, but that those that lost their lives on September 11th were targeted by the radicalized Muslims.

If Palestinians weren’t shooting off rockets from the rooftops of civilian residential areas, maybe so many innocent women and children wouldn’t have been killed? The IDF does not use civilians as targets, but the Palestinians don’t mind using them as human shields.

Rauf sounds more like an American liberal/progressive every day.
