Barack Obama complains about Republicans treating him “like a dog”

September 7, 2010

By now everyone has heard about Barack Obama’s complaint that Republicans are treating him “like a dog,” and to be honest with you I did not intend to post on his statement–and I still do not intend to spend much time on this post– but the more that I thought about it the more it irked me to the point where I had to write about it.

Barack Obama has been coddled his whole life, he is not used to being criticized and as such he has proven to be extremely thin skinned. He was treated with kid gloves all during his campaign; while issues abounded that would have doomed most any other candidate to the spears and arrows of the media, Barack Obama was given a free ride. He just assumed that it would always be that way, but now that he is president he is learning the hard way that anything he says or does is going to be scrutinized; even the media is beginning to question Barack Obama.

What bothers me the most about Barack Obama’s complaint is the fact that he just can’t believe that this is happening to him. He feels that everything he says and does is beyond criticism. Combined with the fact that his own party began attacking George W Bush even before he took the oath of office–from being called an illegitimate president (being selected not elected), to being called an idiot by elected officials (Harry Reid), to being called a fascist and compared to Hitler–the left never waned in their attacks against the former president.

But President Bush believed in the sanctity of the office. President Bush never once responded to the criticism being leveled upon him because he believed that the office of the president was above such petty insults–and he still does today, refusing even today to respond to his critics who judged him so unfairly. Nobody faced more harsh criticism than did President Bush; what Barack Obama is now going through pales in comparison to what President Bush went through for eight years, yet he simply cannot handle the criticism.

Barack Obama could learn a thing or to from former President Bush–first and foremost the fact that he should be above hurling such trivial insults toward those who disagree with his policies. In other words, it is time for Barack Obama to man up and stop whining about those who do not agree with him. He is the leader of the free world–it is about time that he start acting like it.

While it is true that Barack Obama has faced some of the same criticisms that President Bush endured–while certainly not to the same extent–it is certain that  a man can be judged by how he reacts to his critics, and in Barack Obama’s case he has proven that he just isn’t able to handle being criticized. Barack Obama needs to conquer his narcissism and realize that not everyone is going to agree with him or his policies and he needs to learn that those that disagree with him are going to try to stop him every chance they get. He thinks that the attacks on him are personal, hence the “treating me like a dog” reference, but what he needs to learn is that politicians aren’t attacking him, they are attacking his policies, and that is and always will be, fair game. If Barack Obama can’t handle it he shouldn’t have run for president in the first place.

It is really a sad day in this country when individuals attack the president, especially the
people who actually created the economic problems long before the new president. It is like
everything else, someone to blame it on. After many months of watching, it does appear the
republicans can not handle a man as president who is not the same race. Each time the president present various bills to help the people the republicans fight against it; which is in reality short changing the people by thinking of themselves. The republicans do not really
care about the people, if so, why is the economy tore up? People in this country do know what is going on, we are not blind nor fools. The republicans are too busy fighting the president that they forgot about the people in this country. The many people who caused the housing problems, banking market, allowed greed, allowed companies to move into other countries (jobs), poor politics, and war was on the republicans watch. The new president and the people was left with nothing. Stop blaming the new president, research who actually was responsible. You see, dirt always come out of the laundry, and the truth will set you free. We all know the newly elected president was not in control on the republicans watch, nor had control of the money. The guilty is fighting the new president.
We all know the stories on individuals who are none whites, for years the history said so.
It takes more than 1 1/2 years for the economy to be in the shape it is in so, get a life. It seems as though the republicans are trying to make our country into a third world status.
They cry like when someone has taken candy from a baby. Someone please tell me what was
accomplished in the last 8 years during the republican administration. You see, the employment problem among minorities is about 16%; how long do you think people are blind and do not know the truth. GOD IS SOON TO COME. Oh I forgot, try conviencing the
true native americans, Oh I forgot, how many native americans left?

      Yawn at the race card.
You really undermine all of the other points that you make when you play the race card. This is not about race and anyone that is honest with themselves knows that. But you just can’t handle people who think different than you do so you seek to find the lowest common denominator in an attempt to delegitimize your opponents instead of debating the issues, you do this because you know that you are losing the argument. I really feel sorry for you, someday you will realize that not everyone who disagrees with you is a racist, until then we will simply give you a pass on your bigotry, you just don’t know any better.

      John Doe,

You are correct, a lot of the problems that we see today were not caused by the current President. A lot of them were caused by Democrats, as they refused to let sensible regulations go into affect that would have hamstrung Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac’s ability to do so much damage to the housing market. President Bush and John McCain both tried to get those regulations passed, yet Barney Frank and the rest of the Democrats refused to consider the measure. If you want to cast blame, there is plenty to go around, but not all of it rests with the Republicans, as you would like us to believe.

As for the race card, that dog isn’t going to hunt. From the moment I first voice my objections to Barack Obama on my own blog, I was accused of being racism. Those who made those accusations shut up and went away when I challenged them to find one time in my writings where I said anything about the color of the man’s skin. Just because we disagree with his policies does not mean we are guilty of racism. Deal with it.

Funny how when you ask them to provide example of racism they just can’t do it. It is easy to make charges, but it is much harder to prove them. Nothing in this post mentiones Barack Obama’s race, yet people try to put into my words something that is not there.

I think he has nothing else to fall back on so he resorts to this as a defense. He got all the talking points in there, didn’t he?

    @John Doe,

Enough already about the “race card” It doesn’t work. Everyone is against Obama’s POLICIES, not the person. But, when he cannot/does not work with both sides, then….yes, people start to not like him too.

When he was first elected, I was just annoyed with him. Now he STILL uses the blame game on the Bush administration, and is ONLY interested in fulfilling his agenda, so now….I can’t stand the man.

He has no regard for the Constitution, and no regard for the will of the American people. Everything he says are lies. He better get some thick skin real soon….because it will only get worse.

Thank God the Republicans are standing against his policies….I hate to think what this economy would be if they bowed to his wishes also.

Very well said! Some people just can’t seem to accept that not everbody thinks of Barack Obama as the messiah. They feel that there is no other reason for this other than they must be racists. Nothing in this post mentions Barack Obama’s race, and honestly the only time I even think about his race is when someone like John brings it up. These people are obsessed with race and they try to project their obsessions onto other people.

This man is an embarrassment to the Office of the President of the United States. The kool-aide drinkers got change alright; signed, sealed, and delivered by the community organizer in chief.

Claiming George Bush took criticim. what a load of crap. Saying this is the same treatment as bush is like saying opposition towards Obama is NOT fueled by racism.
When was Bush questioned about his citizenship?
When was Bush questioned about his Birthplace?
When was Bush questioned about his Loyalty?
When were their constant lies about Bush?

Bush and Obama were not treated the same–Bush was treated much worse than Obama has been. Of course GWB didn’t face the same exact questions as BO does, they are different men and face different criticisms so that argument of your’s is faulty.
As for the racist talking point angle, I will use Larry’s advise and ask you to please show me one example where I have made a racist comment about Barack Obama, I oppose him on the issues. It is you and your party that is obsessed with race, you need to get passed Barack Obama’s skin color and debate the issues. If you are afraid to disagree with a person just because of the color of his skin than you are the true bigot. If you were not a bigot you would debate a person in the issues regardless of his skin color as an equal, but by being afraid to disagree with a person of color you are showing that you think you believe the person is inferior to you and you do not wish to embarrass him with your intelligence.
