Florida Republican hopeful promises to hold John Boehner’s feet to the fire

October 11, 2010

Over the course of the last year and a half the Tea Party and Republicans have been linked–some of this has been done by Republicans who are anxious to catch the wave, while some of this has been done by the media and the Democrats while trying to discredit both the Tea Party and the Republicans at the same time–and in many cases they do seem closely aligned. This is mostly because of the former scenario above–Republicans are trying to associate themselves with the Tea Party.

The Republicans see the Tea Party as a tool to help them regain power and while the Tea Party might provide them with a conduit to regain power, what the Republicans need to understand is the Tea Party goes beyond partisan politics. This is more of an anti-establishment movement rather than an anti-Democrat movement. Sure the Republicans stand to gain from this–at this point–but only because it is the Democrats who are now in power.

This is something that many in the blogosphere have been trying to get across to the Republicans. While the Tea Party sees many new up and coming Republican candidates as the answer to the Obama regime and entrenched politicians in Washington, they had better be prepared to uphold the values and positions they ran on. If they do not they will be held accountable. We will vote them out just as fast as we voted them in.

This is a notion which I am not sure the Republicans fully understand just yet.

I hope they understand if we trust them and give them power in Washington we expect them to make good on their promises. People may be upset at the Obama regime right now, but if these Republicans let us down the Tea Party will have no problem voting them out the first chance we get.

If there is any doubt about the intentions of the Tea Party you need to no further than  Allen West–the Tea Party candidate running for the House in Florida–because he embodies the spirit of the Tea Party.

The man who hopes to be the next Speaker of the House–John Boehner–is headed to Florida to campaign for Allen West, but West has a few words of caution for John Boehner:

“If John Boehner is speaker, I’m going to hold his feet to the fire,” West said in an interview at the PGA National Hotel and Resort. “And I think that’s important. And that’s what people are expecting of me down here.”

This is exactly what we need in Washington, up and coming politicians who are not afraid of the leadership in Washington and are going to go there with the intention of actually beginning Washington’s restoration. We must let politicians in Washington know that we are watching them, but we will also be watching people like Allen West to make sure that once he arrives in Washington that he is not seduced by the power and the atmosphere. We will be watching to make sure people like Allen West were not just full of bloated campaign rhetoric and when in Washington actually do what they said they would do.

This was one of my biggest concerns with the establishment Republicans and the new Tea Party supported conservatives that look set to win this November. We heard all kind of thing like as soon as these new conservatives hit town the establishment was going to co-opt them. Bring them into the fold. We CAN’T have this. If we truly want to change this country and restore the Republic we must purge the RINOs from the party first over the next few election cycles, then any establishment Republican that do not embrace the conservative platform. Great post Steve.

The GOP has this great song and dance that they would use on us every election cycle. They’d come home and tell us that this time, they were REALLY, and HONESTLY going to be truly Conservative. Basically, they would blow smoke up our posteriors, and then go back to DC and do what they wanted anyway. I think they are going to see that the balance of power in that relationship has changed.

And now they may finally be forced to realize that we are no longer going to take it.

The GOP has committed to co-opt the TEA Party as soon as elections are over… Typical GOP BS… Use em and trash em…

One of the biggest mistakes the Republicans can make is to try to co-opt the Tea Party candidates who win in November. Allowing themselves to be co-opted would also be a big mistake for the candidates themselves. There has to be a change in the behavior of the GOP and if that change fails to come about, Steve is right. They can and should be voted out of office.

    Great post, Steve.

Thanks Larry, it will be so disappointing if these people go there and allow themselved so be seduced by the very powers they promised to change. We saw this happen with Barack Obama, we have to hope it doesn’t happen to these guys.

The politicians are only human. They are going to need a very strong resolve to resist pressure from the establishment. To obtain a strong and lasting resolve they will need to accept help to sorry to use this dirty word “change” . This help is free and comes from our creator. They can not only say they have changed or think they have changed; but they can really change. Reminds me of Rocky Balboa.
