New York Democrat seeking re-election brags about voting with Republicans 63% of the time

  With the impending mid-term elections just around the corner and the president’s popularity continuing to wane we have seen many Democrats begin to distance themselves from Barack Obama. 47 Democrats have even gone so far as to claim that they disagree with the president’s position of letting the Bush tax cuts expire–a major campaign promise of Barack Obama’s.

  As the election draws closer, more and more Democrats are trying to sell the American people on the idea that they are not responsible for any of Barack Obama’s failed policies even though they are duplicitous in their passage, but one Democrat–Bill Owens of New York–is taking the anti-Obama sentiment to a whole new level.

  In his latest campaign commercial Bill Owens is actually touting the fact that he voted against Barack Obama and with the Republicans 63% of the time.

“Bill Owens didn’t vote with Nancy Pelosi 93 percent of the time,” the narrator says, responding to an attack ad from his Republican rival in a conservative Upstate New York district. “He voted with the Republican leader 63 percent of the time

While Bill Owens may be from a conservative district and as such would be expected to be a more moderate to conservative Democrat in the House, the fact that he has decided he is better off aligning himself with the Republicans than he is aligning himself with Barack Obama is telling indeed.

  Suffice it to say that if Barack Obama was still popular and wasn’t floundering at the polls Bill Owens would have tried to align himself more closely with the president while trying to distance himself from the Republicans.

  This illustrates perfectly how far the mighty have fallen; it shows us how far the once messiah-like Obama has plummeted in the eyes of the American people. It would have been unthinkable for a Democrat to try to align himself with the Republicans just one year ago with the anti-Bush, anti-Republican atmosphere that gripped the nation, but now at least one of the Democrats thinks it could be beneficial. I am sure there are more Blue Dogs who feel the same way also.
