Democrats try to bribe seniors with a $250 social security payment

October 19, 2010

As hard as it may seem to believe, Democrats may have hit a new low with their latest attempt to win re-election in the upcoming mid-term elections. Democrats are now promising senior citizens who are collecting social security that if they are returned to power in November they will give them all  a one time social security payment of $250 while warning them that if the Republicans gain the majority they can forget about receiving that $250 bonus in the mail.

Here is what Harry Reid said while attempting to buy the votes of senior citizens with a $250 kiss in the mail:

The only thing standing in the way of America’s seniors receiving this critical support are Senate Republicans

This payment is supposed to make up for the fact that social security has not received a cost of living adjustment in two years, but I find it interesting that Democrats have the gall to claim that only they will provide seniors with this cost of living payment because, unless I am missing something here, it is the Democrats who have had complete control over the federal government over the very period in which there has been no cost of living increase in social security benefits in the first place.

Democrats can try to blame Republicans all they want for this but the fact is that 12 Democrats blocked the original legislation that would have given senior citizens the $250 payment in the first place and the Democrat leadership never brought the legislation up for a vote.

This is nothing but fear mongoring on the part of the Democrats; they are trying to intimidate and coerce senior citizens into voting for them by playing into their fears that their benefits may be cut by Republicans, when all the while it was the inaction of the Democrats to provide them with a cost of living increase that has stagnated their income without an increase in benefits.

The Democrats are desperate to hold onto power; they feel it is slipping away and they are not beyond attempting anything to hold on to that power, even trying to intimidate and bribe senior citizens.

Seniors are WAY too smart to fall for a measly $250.00 when they know that will cover maybe a month or two of their prescriptions.

What idiots! Too little too late you blood sucking leeches!

Actually, I went back to my FB page and checked exactly what I wrote. Here it is!

My Thoughts: Does this not say it all? These Democrats really believe they can BUY my vote for a lousy $250.00! I don’t even trust them to keep their word if they get back in power. How stupid do they think I and ‘we the people’ are? Apparently, quite stupid! Yeesh!

I think that says it all!

We’re beginning to look more and more like ancient Rome before the fall. Corruption ran rampant. This is where we are at.

This is so transparent, they don’t even seem to care if people realize they are promising money in return for a vote.

Same stunt they pulled last year. In the end, no permanent increase.

True! It is strange that they are telling the senior that only they will look out for them when it was them that didn’t give them a raise in the first place. I don’t think the seniors are going to fall for this.

If I was a senior citizen, this would feel like a slap in the face to me. I understand that everyone is hurting and seniors are no exception. I know it has to hurt, not getting a cost of living increase, but that is how the system was set up and designed to work, off the rate of inflation. Now, it seems like it is politically expedient for the Democrats to offer a single $250 payment and at the same time, accuse the Republicans of not wanting to take care of this group of American citizens. That single payment of $250 is going to add up to between $13 and $14 billion and I really don’t think our senior citizens are going to buy that. They are much smarter than the Democrats are giving them credit for.

I agree, I think there are many seniors who feel as if this is a slap in the face. The government is trying to buy their vote while at the same time trying to intimidate them into voting for them. This shows a real lack of respect for the intelligence of our senior citizens.

I’ll take an additional $250 on my SS as a one time payment, I’m needing to order some more .45 and .40 ammo…. 😈
