Cody Alicea returns to school on Monday leading a motorcade of flag waving supporters

November 16, 2010

I first wrote about  Cody Alicea–the boy who was told by his school that he mustn’t fly his American flag on his bike while on school property–on Saturday. Since that time–due in no part to myself–this story had become a huge national issue–much to my surprise. Stories like Cody’s have become all too commonplace in recent years and they never seem to catch the attention of the media in the manner in which I believe they should, so I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of coverage Cody Alicea’s plight has drawn.

There was an outpouring of support for Cody Alicea from all across the nation, and when Cody returned to school on Monday, he proudly led a parade of supporters in a motorcade with flags freely waving in the wind in all of their glory. Cheering supporters also lined the streets, waving American flags, waiting for the procession to make its way past them.

What a wonderful ending to the story this would be, if only it was the end. But it isn’t the end because the show of support didn’t end there.

Once on school property, supporters circled the American flag that flies over the school and recited the Pledge of Allegiance. But before the Pledge was recited, the words of Congressman George Radanoich were read to the crowd. As an obviously and understandably emotional Cody listened, he heard the words of the congressman state that while he was happy this issue was resolved he wondered, “what has America come to where a 13 year old student must be concerned for his safety when he waves his American flag?” And continued that he was, “deeply concerned about the circumstances that led to Cody being asked to remove his flag in the first place.”

“I believe what happened to Cody gives us a snapshot of our current national culture,” continued Congressman Radanovich,”the flag of the United States is a symbol of everything this country stands for: unity, liberty, and freedom. For an American student to ever be told that displaying the American flag IN AMERICA may make him a target for violence is a travesty and a terrible testament to what is happening in our country.”

Truer words have never been spoken; to think that Cody was the victim of violent threats, yet instead of confronting the students making the threats, school officials decided to promote their bad behavior by making the one student who wasn’t doing anything wrong change his behavior shows us just how far down the cesspool of political correctness the United States has fallen.

This story has been repeated over and over again over the last several years–I have written about many such incidents–but never before have we seen such an outpuring of support as we did this time. I believe that America is in the midst of a great national awakening. People are sick and tired of politicians and politically correct leaders apologizing for America and giving in to the whims of those that seek to destroy the national culture from within. This type of story has been happening all across this country for too damn long and it finally looks as if Americans are ready to stand up and say, “enough is enough, I am proud of my country and I am sick and tired of listening to people who try to tell me it is wrong to display national pride because it might offend somebody.”

The time has come for us to take back our country and I believe that we are in the beginning stages of doing just that. How strange is it that as Americans begin to wake up to where political correctness has gotten us that it may be the face of a thirteen year old boy that we look back upon as the symbol of where it all began?

Thank you Cody Alicea for your courage and I salute you. Thank you also to Jon C Randall who provided me with the videos.

Great story. And congressman Radanoich sounds like an all right guy too.

He certainly does. The congressman-elect in Cody’s district has also asked him to be present at his swearing in.
