The Chamber of Commerce calls for the repeal of Obamacare

January 12, 2011

Sighting ObamaCare as “unworkable,” Tom Donohue–the CEO and president of the Chamber of Commerce–is calling for the repeal of Obamacare:

By mid-December, HHS had already granted 222 waivers to the law — a revealing acknowledgement that the law is unworkable,” Donohue said. “And, with key provisions under challenge in the courts by states and others, it’s time to go back to the drawing board

I have previously written about the 222 healthcare reform waivers granted by the Obama regime here. This is what I had to say about these waivers:

The healthcare reform law would have been directly responsible for hundreds of thousands of employees losing their healthcare coverage if the waiver was not granted–the exact opposite of the stated goal of the law. Now these multi-million dollar corporations do not have to meet the federally mandated minimums for healthcare coverage. Why even have the law on the books if it is so devastating that so many companies are being granted waivers? This makes absolutely no sense whatsoever and is turning out to be quite an embarrassment to the president.

With the Chamber of Commerce now siting these waivers as proof that Obamacare is “unworkable” I feel vindicated in my initial response to the news of these waivers. And Tom  Donohue had much more to say about Obamacare:

Last year, while strongly advocating health care reform, the Chamber was a leader in the fight against this particular bill, and thus we support legislation in the House to repeal it,” Donohue said. “We see the upcoming House vote as an opportunity for everyone to take a fresh look at health care reform and to replace unworkable approaches with more effective measures that will lower costs, expand access, and improve quality

“First, we must rein in excessive regulations and reform the regulatory process,” Donohue said. “At the federal level alone, regulations already fill 150,000 pages of fine-print text and cost Americans $1.7 trillion a year.”

Donohue included the health care bill in what he called a “regulatory tsunami.”

“For example, the new health care law creates 159 new agencies, commissions, panels, and other bodies,” he said.  “It grants extraordinary powers to the Department of Health and Human Services to redefine health care as we know it. When the bill passed, Americans were promised that it would lower costs and allow anyone who liked their existing coverage to keep it. Instead, costs are rising and health plans are being forced to change.

Tom Donohue is confirming many of the fears that most of us had about this legislation in the first place: We will not be able to keep our doctors or our plans, (I have already been forced to change my healthcare plan), this law is creating a giant government bureaucracy which is unsustainable, it will not lower costs, and it gives HHS expanded powers. Other than that, this is a great bill.

It is not news that the Chamber of Commerce and Barack Obama do not see eye to eye on many issues, and it is not news that Barack Obama has had the Chamber of Commerce in the crosshairs for quite some time, so it is also not surprising that the Chamber of Commerce is coming out so strongly against Barack Obama’s signature legislation.

But today the Republicans in the House of Representatives have gained a powerful ally as the momentum surges for repeal of the healthcare reform law. In the end we will not be able to repeal Obamacare until we have a new president, but the forces are lining up against the president and at least we should be able to repeal the most offensive parts of this legislation, while defunding the law, until we have the chance to rid ourselves of this monstrosity once and for all.

I’ve always thought that ObamaCare was designed to create an even deeper health care crisis so that the only solution would be a single payer system. It is the only explanation I can think of as to why our elected officials would pass and sign into law such a terrible idea. Especially those that support a single payer system.

We did here people like Barney Frank admit that this plan would lead to single payer,I think it was part of the plan all along.

I agree with John. They just want to Cloward-Piven the healthcare system and drive us all to a single payer system. I think those waivers are just temporary until they can set that up.

John is right. There is no other explanation that I can think of. It’s diabolical isn’t it?

I also agree with John, this was all part of the plan. They intend to destroy the healthcare industry so that they can “normalize” it.
