Bill Clinton says Obama’s delaying of oil drilling permits is “ridiculous”

March 11, 2011

In the aftermath of the BP oil spill in the Gulf last year Barack Obama issued a moratorium on oil drilling. A federal judge ruled that this moratorium was illegal and ordered Barack Obama to rescind the drilling moratorium. Barack Obama has been ignoring this court ruling and has illegally kept the drilling moratorium in effect.

Since this ruling there have been several oil companies which have applied for drilling permits in the Gulf, but the Obama regime has delayed action on these permits in a clear attempt to keep his drilling moratorium in effect, even though the court ordered him to lift the drilling ban in the Gulf.

During an event that former presidents Bush and Clinton hosted on Friday a question was asked from a person in attendance about the drilling ban in the Gulf, to which former President Clinton replied that the delay in permitting was “ridiculous.”

Clinton said there are “ridiculous delays in permitting when our economy doesn’t need it,” according to Noe and others.

“That was the most surprising thing they said,” Noe said.

The two former presidents both generally agreed on the need to get offshore drilling workers back on the job.

There you have it; the left wing’s icon–Bill Clinton–has broken with the current president on the issue of the drilling moratorium, stating basically that in these economic times delaying the permitting process for liberal ideology is “ridiculous.” Even Bill Clinton realizes that you cannot cut off the nose to spite the face, and in that aspect he has shown that he is smarter than Barack Obama will ever be.

One has to wonder how the left will react to this: On one hand we have the new liberal messiah–Barack Obama–putting his radical agenda ahead of the good of the nation, while on the other hand we have the left’s god–Bill Clinton–stating that the new messiah’s policies are ridiculous.

This throws a monkey wrench into the leftists machine and their ideology because they are now going to have to chose between their two icons on this issue; who will they side with? Here they have their two heroes who are in disagreement on the issue of drilling for oil in the gulf and they cannot chose one without insulting the other.

I didn’t know who we sided with would throw a monkey wrench into anything. We can think for ourselves and choose which one we agree with.

Since there is a court order, and Obama’s ignoring it, I guess Clinton. *shrug* We’re sitting on a glut of oil, so I guess the drilling’s purpose would be for getting people back to work.

Anyway, whenever the moratorium is lifted, I’d prefer that safety regulations aren’t tossed aside like Kleenex. Like last time.

I agree–both with Bill Clinton on the drilling moratorium and with you that safety regulations should not be tossed aside. I think that “monkey wrench” may have been the wrong term to use, what I meant was that this could drive a wedge within the Democrats between those that agree with Clinton and those that agree with Obama.

There will be Democrats who love Clinton and those who love Obama. And those who love both. No wedges since one is president and the other isn’t anymore (even though some wish he still was). 😉

This might be another shot at Obama by the Clintons. They have not forgotten about 2008.

Very true Matt, there is still bad blood between the Clintons and Obama and maybe he was trying to get a little revenge here.

It doesn’t take a very high IQ to know that stopping drilling is the wrong thing to do.

So maybe there is an ulterior motive involved. (Or Barack Obama just isn’t that smart to begin with.)

During Obama’s press conference about Japan & oil prices today he stated that “any allegation the administration has shut down oil production makes for a “good sound bite” but is not reality,” (quoted as best I can recall the text is not yet available, but the video is online). The fact is, after the Federal Judge deemed the moratorium excessive, the administration simply created a de facto moratorium by refusing to grant any permits.

Another example of the gap between what is said and what is done by this administration.

Sadly despite promises about environmental protections, the Obama administration has proposed setting aside vital protections that have protected the forest homes of lynx and other imperiled wildlife on our national forests since Ronald Reagan was president. Not exactly on topic, but another example.

Barack Obama has mastered the art of saying exactly the opposite of what his actions are, and this is yet another example.

There’s no love loss between the Clintons and Obama. Even though I agree with Clinton, I think his statement has more to do with his dislike for Obama than what is good for our nation.

You could be right John, I think that the Clintons still hold a grudge against Obama and this could have been a shot taken at him because of this grudge. It is still entertaining though. 🙂

I agreed with Obama. We should put a halt on oil drill. We do not want something like the oil spill of last year March 2010, where thousands of lives were killed. 13 men were killed as well. Bill Clinton is a great man. He wants to open up more job opportunities, however, we need to take care of the planet. If the planet is ill, there is no place to work, therefore job opportunities mean nothing. We have to see things in a broad picture instead of of seeing things in pieces. We DO NOT want to experience something like the oil spill of the Gulf of Mexico which took over fours months to clean up. It seems like that people only cares for what is happening in the immediate and seemed to forgot the pass. If we don’t learn from history, then history is bound to happen again!

So you don’t have a problem with Obama ignoring the court order to lift the moratoriums because you agree with his position? He has acted like a dictator here by doing something in violation of an order and maybe the next time he usurps this power it will be in opposition to a position of your’s and you probably wouldn’t like it too much then. There are rules that he must follow, he simply cannot impose his will on the people and on this issue he has done just that.
