The judge that issued an injunction against the Wisconsin labor law should have recused herself

March 23, 2011

We all know the story of Scott Walker, the Wisconsin labor law, and the fleebaggers who left the state instead of facing defeat with dignity so I will not recap that issue here. Opponents of the labor law claim that this law violates the state constitution and a lawsuit against the new labor law is in the process of moving forward. Recently a Wisconsin judge– Maryann Sumi–issued an injunction against the law while the lawsuit remains unsettled. The law is on hold as of this moment.

But it now turns out that Judge Sumi probably should have recused herself from the lawsuit. Her son was a former AFL-CIO and SEIU employee and her husband has actually donated money to the campaigns of three of the fleebagging Democrats who left the state when it was apparent they were going to lose the debate.

Should this judge have recused herself in light of these revelations of her family’s involvement with some of the unions in question as well as the revelation that her husband donated to some of the campaigns of the Democrats who were opposing Scott Walker? We need to look no further than the effort that was recently made by the left to pressure Justice Clarence Thomas to recuse himself from the healthcare reform law’s challenge once it makes it to the Supreme Court to find our answer.

What was the reason given by the left for the request that Justice Thomas recuse himself from the healthcare reform challenge? The fact that Justice Thomas’ wife founded an organization in opposition to the healthcare reform law. So using this logic: If Justice Thomas should recuse himself from the healthcare reform challenge than Judge Sumi also should have recused herself from the labor law dispute in Wisconsin.

Yet do we hear cries of foul play for Judge Sumi’s refusal to recuse herself from the Wisconsin labor case  from those on the left that are pressuring Justice Thomas to recuse himself from the healthcare reform law challenge? The answer is a resounding no! Certainly the left cannot condone Judge Sumi’s actions while at the same time trying to vilify Justice Thomas for a decision he has not yet made. Can they?

Of course the left can do that. They practically invented the phrase, “do as I say, not as I do.”

And as the leader of the Democrat party Barack Obama has mastered saying one thing while he does the opposite.

    Right on, very illuminating

It’s amazing just what our side’s up against isn’t it, some parts for the country are completely infested, i.e. union toilets like Detroit and Toledo

What makes you think they couldn’t use this double standard, Steve? They wrote the book on double standards and they are very adept at using them. Therefore, your logic must be flawed. 😉

I have to go along with Mark. I read today that “hypocracy is a beautiful beast and politics is a petting zoo.”

Of course the ruling was rigged. She didn’t have the authority to rule on senate protocol in the first place. She invented an injunction out of thin air.

Funny how they can do that when they want to, but in the case of healthcare reform the ruling is supposedly too muddled to understand if the law should be halted.

Well, my living in Wisconsin gives me a front row view of the delaying tactics the liberals, lefties, commies, progressives do to stall things so the unions can get their negotiations done behind the scenes with the teachers union, and other ones. It is all a charade, and this judge had NO BUSINESS ruling, and is being challenged in court by the States Attorney General. It is just stupidity at its finest, and makes me ashamed to have returned to Wisconsin after 40 years of wandering the deserts of life before I returned back to the promised land (from what I used to remember from my youth).

You are right there in the thick of things, it must be frustrating to see politicians who are actually trying to do the right thing get lambasted like this.

What blows me away is why people vote for and elect these morons, instead of using their common sense.

They do it because they see the prospect of getting something for nothing and until we change this mindset we will be doomed to repeat it.

I’ve been waiting for you to tie this Wisconsin judge issue to the Clarence Thomas/Healthcare Law issue. I knew you would, you dependable blogger you.

Unlike the hypocrites on the left, I like to be consistent. If I can defend Thomas from “appearance of impropriety” accusations due to his wife’s job, then I can defend Judge Sumi even more strongly, as one would think your spouse would bear more influence than your child.

Neither should be recused. Shouldn’t be necessary for Sumi’s decision to get shot down anyway. Hopefully it’ll get reversed very soon on an important procedural ground b/c she way overstepped the judiciary’s boundaries by preventing a law from even getting implimented. Legal insurrection has the details on it.

These two issues sort of clicked in my mind while I was talking to “Stinkprogress” at work yesterday. It is amazing to me that people can demand Thomas recuse himself from the healthcare debate, but don’t bat an eye when the same “conflict of interest” is in full display in Wisconsin.
