“Poet” invited to the White House is a disciple of Jeremiah Wright

May 11, 2011

I first wrote about Michelle Obama’s “poetry night at the White House” in this post; in case you haven’t heard about it let me sum it up thusly: Michelle Obama is holding a poetry night at the White House and one of the invited guests is a rapper who goes by the name of Common. Common has written sons about killing police officers, extolling the virtues of convicted cop killer  Assata Shakur (and has even named his daughter after the killer), and rapped about burning President Bush alive.

The president is now defending this decision claiming that Common is a “conscious rapper” who has “spoken very forcefully out against violent and misogynist lyrics.” Apparently Barack Obama is ignoring the fact that he has rapped about killing cop and has named his daughter in honor of a cop killer. Barack Obama is also ignoring the fact that Common has spoken out against inter-racial marriage in the past.

Today we learn of a new twist in the story as we are finding out that Barack Obama and Common are friends–or at least acquaintances–who first met at the church of none other than America hating, racist Jeremiah Wright. When it became a political liability for Barack Obama he promptly denounced his “spiritual mentor” but as it turns out Common never has:

What I picked up from the pews…was messages of love,” Common said at the time. “Anything that was going on against that love he would acknowledge and expose. He’s been a preacher that’s helped raise one of the greatest political figures in the world, and hopefully, the next President. He’s also raised one of the greatest rappers in the world [meaning Common himself].”

Jeremiah Wright and love are two words that do not belong together. Barack Obama’s “spiritual mentor” once called the United States of America the “United States of KKK” and claimed that “Americas chickens have come home to roost” one week after the terrorist attacks on September 11th. Jeremiah Wright is a race baiter and a hustler who looked to incite violence through hate filled, vitriolic rhetoric and for Barack Obama to declare that he never heard any of this when he attended this church requires the willing suspension of disbelief.

But Common also attended this hate filled church and has never denounced the hate filled rhetoric of this controversial preacher, in fact some of his lyrics lead one to believe he embraced the hate. And later on this evening the Obama’s are going to embrace Common and the hate and violence that he obviously learned at Jeremiah Wright’s pulpit.

Update: As I go to press with this post it seems as if Common was dropped from this afternoon’s event, no word on whether he will be present later on this evening. If Common has been dropped from tonight’s festivities we can chalk one up for the good guys, but I still call into question the judgement of Michelle and Barack Obama for thinking that this was acceptable in the first place.

I enjoy the daily updates… But please use spell check before sending out emails (disciples).

I apologize for that, I typed the title on my phone before I got home and forgot to check it before I posted (spell check doesn’t check the titles.) I noticed this error when I hit the “post” button and corrected it rather quickly. WordPress sends out the emails automatically, so I couldn’t correct it before the email went out.

Oh if only spell check were idiot check, so many mistakes in grammer or intent that I’ve made would have been avoided. Don’t sweat it Steve. We enjoy your blog!

Sorry, but that’s just too petty to even mention. They are few and far between and the content more than compensates for typos that in some cases have more to do with keyboard malfunctions than human error.

Seperately, to Steve and all, thought people could get a kick out of this: http://maryohsocontrary.wordpress.com/2011/05/11/all-too-common/

Thanks, although I have to admit that maybe my thumbs are just to big for the Blackberry’s keyboard. I will check out the link, thanks.

I heard about this guy. But then, we knew these were the kinds of people Obama surrounds himself with.

Interesting that this hate monger was removed from the afternoon reading. To much publicity? So,what goes on behind closed doors?
