The House votes to repeal Barack Obama’s illegal oil drilling moratorium

May 12, 2011

By a vote of 243 to 179 the House of Representatives has passed legislation which would reverse Barack Obama’s illegal oil drilling moratorium. House Republicans claim that this legislation will create over 1 million jobs and lower oil prices, and the Congressional Budget Office has estimated the legislation would create $800 million in revenue over the next decade.

So who could possibly be against this job and revenue creating legislation? Barack Obama, of course.

The Obama administration released a statement opposing the bill Wednesday. The White House argued that the proposal would undermine the current leasing process and mandate drilling leases without input from the affected states.

After doing all he could to usurp states’ rights over the last two years Barack Obama suddenly gives a damn about what the states feel about an issue?

But that aside, Barack Obama has claimed over the last few years that we needed to wean ourselves off of foreign oil–and I agree with him on that–but his answer to our oil problem is through unproven “renewable energy” sources. And while I do believe that eventually these sources will help us gain more energy independence part of the solution should include using the resources which we currently have at our disposal, meaning we should be using our own natural gas and oil sources.

But Barack Obama is averse to this idea and the fact that he keeps in place a drilling moratorium which a court has already ruled is illegal is all the proof that we need that Barack Obama’s energy policy–or lack thereof–is ideologically driven and really is about his obsession with the now debunked climate change and cap and trade policies which amount to nothing more than another government intrusion on the liberties of the American people. Barack Obama’s energy policy has nothing to do with energy independence and has everything to do with gaining more control over the American people.

What other reason can there be for his opposition to a bill which would create 1 million jobs at a time when Americans are desperate for jobs? And what other reason can there be for his opposition to a bill which the CBO has estimate will create almost $1 billion? As Herman Cain said during the Republican debate, if the oil speculators thought the United States government was serious about drilling for our own oil and thusly increasing the supplies the price of oil would immediately drop, and yet Barack Obama is opposed to legislation which would do all of the above.

While the House passed this measure, I think that unless there are enough Democrats who are worried about their jobs this legislation has no chance of passing the Democrat controlled Senate so this legislation is probably not going anywhere. But at least we will get the votes on record and we will know who exactly supports helping Americans at a time when we are feeling the crunch from increased oil costs and who is driven by ideology to oppose this helpful legislation.

He can’t sign the bill because energy rates might “necessarily plummet”. Which is not good if your plan is to make energy rates “necessarily skyrocket.” Energy rates skyrocket? Who says he hasn’t made good on campaign promises? I hope the Senate passes the bill so boy genius has to go on record with a veto.

Very good point! He did say that his policies would cause energy prices to skyrocket and this is one promise he has managed to keep.

As I said in my Tuesday post on this, if the Republicans play this right ,they can score some big time PR points with the public. Let’s hope they do.

This does give them they chance to gain points with the public; the economy and gas prices will be big issues in the next election and if the Republicans play their cards right they should be able to do well.

Anyone who believes President Obama is concerned about our energy independence is misinformed. The main thing he is concerned about is how to protect the environment, climate change, global warming, etc. and his policies and actions are proof of that. We would be fools to believe otherwise.

That is exactly what his priorites are, but the only reason he wants to protect the environment is because of the controls and taxes that cap and trade will bring.

The left is concerned with destroying America as we have known it. Period. They are presently in “scorched Earth” mode, working very hard to ruin as much of our Republic as they can before the 2102 elections. They need to be defeated wholesale, across the entire political landscape, if we are to have any chance of fixing this systemic mess we are in.

INCUMBENTS- THE “POLITICALLY CORRECT” ENDANGERED SPECIES!

Obama is now leaning back to his pre-BP disaster posisition. If you recall the adminastration was starting to allow more drilling just before the rig in the gulf burned. Then to take full advantage of a disaster they pulled a knee jerk reaction to it. Stop all drilling! They were then in a quandry when the oil spill did not cause the end of the world.
Surprise! Gasoline prices started to rise. Add to that all the crap going on in the middle east and the continued devaluation of the dollar and you get what we have today.

During this ban on drilling the President goes to Brazil with a couple billion dollars to help Brazil’s state run oil company Petrobras. And where are they going to drill? The GULF.

Now the adminastration is back tracking. Now Obama announced Saturday that he was taking several steps to speed oil and gas drilling on public lands and waters. WTF? Do they think you just go out and turn on the spigot and out comes the oil?

With Obama feeling the pressure from $4 dollar gas and the 2012 election. We need a President that has a energy policy not an election policy.

As much as I dislike paying so much for gas I almost hope the price stays high long enough to get to November 2012. Let him taste a little more voter outrage!

re: “During this ban on drilling the President goes to Brazil with a couple billion dollars to help Brazil’s state run oil company Petrobras. And where are they going to drill? The GULF.”

Add to that the Chinese rigs drilling in the Straits of Florida between Cuba and Key West.

And I don’t see how either nation has been made responsible to EPA standards in any way.

If THEY have an accident, does Obama think the oil from the spill is going to know that it belongs to China or Brazil and thereby won’t affect our shores? If they make a complaint about a spill to China, does he think the Chinese are going to do anything except comment, “Uh… about those billions you borrowed from us…”?

Tying our own companies up in knots and keeping them from extracting our own resources does nothing but aid and abet OPEC.

Great points, it really doesn’t make any sense does it? All these other countries–with less regulations–are drilling off of our coast and yet we cannot do the same. It is enough to drive a person crazy.
