Newt Gingrich flip-flops on Paul Ryan’s budget; calls Medicare reform “right-wing social engineering”
When Paul Ryan first introduced his budget proposal–and before Gingrich decided to run for president–Newt Gingrich had this to say about the proposal:
Paul Ryan has stepped up to the plate,” Gingrich said. “This is a very, very serious budget and I think rivals with [what] John Kasich did as budget chairman in getting to a balanced budget in the 1990s, just for the scale and courage involved…”
“Paul Ryan is going to define modern conservatism at a serious level,” Gingrich continued on April 5. “You can quibble over details but the general shape of what he’s doing will define 2012 for Republicans
But Newt has a Romneyesque history of flip-flopping; he flip-flopped on his love for his wives over the years depending on how sick they became, he flip-flopped on cap and trade, and now he has flip-flopped on Paul Ryan’s budget as well. What was once, in his opinion, a defining moment for modern conservatism and a courageous attempt at a serious budget proposal is now nothing but “right-wing social engineering” now that he is running for president and looking to woo the senior vote.
But this is frustrating on another, more important level because this is the budget that the Republicans have put forward and this is the budget which will be debated in the Congress and Newt Gingrich has just undermined what the Republicans in the Congress are trying to accomplish and he has done it for personal political gain and I find it to be selfish and unbecoming from a person that wants to be the leader of the free world. For once Newt should put the best interest of the country ahead of his own personal goals.
Barack Obama and the Democrats will now be able to oppose this budget proposal by using Gingrich’s words against the responsible Republicans who are trying to draw down the national debt and reign in the out of control spending. Newt Gingrich has just handed the Democrats a gift that they could not possibly have hoped for in their wildest dreams and he did it to undermine the Republicans in the hope that it would benefit him in the long run.

Add to the flip flops:
Last year Newt was a featured speaker at Pamela Geller’s 9/11 rally. At the last minute he cancelled – reason, Geert Wilders was also a featured speaker and CAIR, yes CAIR, that terrorist organization alllowed to exist in the USA, told him they didn’t like Geert and he shouldn’t be a speaker if Geert was going to be there.
Newt cancelled. I was going to reveal this about him at a later date, but this seems to be the most appropriate time to do so. Do we really need another Muslim loving president, I SAY NO!

I didn’t know this! Thanks for sharing it, this is just another reason why Newt should not be the Republican nominee.

I’ll take Geert over Newt any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

I’ll second that.

Newt is a non-starter. He’s big government, and he has flip flopped on so many issues. I hope people see right through him.

I think the people do see through him, he may have killed his candidacy before it even got started.

I am in total agreement Steve. He’s done.

Mark Levin tore him apart today in an interview. The squirming was very entertaining.

Newt Gingrich as the Republican nominee = another four years of Barack Obama living in the White House. I know everyone has different feelings about the candidates, but I really can not understand how anyone could seriously consider Gingrich as a viable candidate, much less President of the United States.

I think he is considered viable because the field is so weak right now, and that isn’t a good sign.

Newt is a political opportunist. I like what Ryan said about why do you need enemies on the left when you have allies like Newt. lol
With that being said I think Newt has just blown his campaign out of the water. there is no way he gets the nomination now.

That was a great line by Ryan and all too true. Newt is done and he did it to himself before he even got started.

I still believe character matters. My mother was diagnosed with cancer in 2005, and my father and she fought together for two years trying to beat her illness. What many saw as huge sacrifices, he saw as an honor. They say that a good father doesn’t teach his children how to live, but rather shows by example. My father did precisely that, and I hope I can be half the husband and father he has proven to be.
Newt? He abandoned his ill wife for his chicky-doodle.
I have a rule of thumb: if I would rather smack you than shake your hand, I won’t pull the lever for you come election time. Sorry, Newt, but you wouldn’t get my vote to be the county dog warden.

I am so sorry to hear about your mother; it must make Newt’s fickleness even more infuriating to you. Instead of standing by his wives in their time of need he decided to do what was best for him and move on. I simply cannot get passed this.

The sick thing to me was that Newt thought abandoning a sick wife was “best” for him.

That was the death knell for Newt. He critized Paul without any plan of his own. This is flip-flop one. I think this is almost the fastest I have seen a canidate kill his campaign. Has he been under a rock? I think most people are beginning to understand if it is not fixed there will be no money for all their favorite social programs. It’s all a big s**t sandwich and everyone is going to have to take a bite. No more of this cut his benny but leave mine alone mentality. And Newt missed that train.
