Barack Obama tells the Boston Herald it is not welcome at his fundraiser in Boston

May 18, 2011

Barack Obama does not like his policies or the failed results of those policies to be questioned whatsoever, and in fact he has a history of trying to intimidate those in the media who have the audacity (of hope) to actually question him on the issues. So it comes as no surprise that as Barack Obama flew into Massachusetts earlier today he has shunned the Boston Herald and will not allow the paper access to his fundraiser in Boston.

Barack Obama is unhappy with the Boston Herald because he feels they are a biased paper and have not given him a fair shake; his answer to this problem is to ban them from his fundraiser when it seems as if a better alternative would be to have let the paper have access and try to win them over by making a believable statement as to why his policies are correct. Barack Obama feels that by shunning the newspaper that the Boston Herald will fall in line in the future in order to gain an audience with the president.

I have been critical of the media and their liberal bias over the years on this blog, going so far as to call the media the propaganda arm of Barack Obama and the Democrat party, and while I do not like the fact that most of the media is biased toward a liberal point of view I have never claimed that they do not have the right to hold this bias. The freedom of the press guaranteed in the constitution means just that–the media is free to cover a political event with whatever bias they want to, I don’t have to like it but that right is non-negotiable. It is up to the people to sort through the news and make an informed decision.

Media bias is nothing new and in fact was prevalent in America before America was a sovereign nation–in fact media bias helped to turn the American people against the British empire and none other than Benjamin Franklin himself helped to promulgate dissent in the people through biased “reporting” in the newspapers.

This is an issue on which I and the president obviously differ; while I feel freedom of the press guarantees the press to write something that I disagree with, Barack Obama feels as if an alternative perspective is unfair because he honestly believes it is the duty of the press to make him look good. Barack Obama wants to control the media and the bias in which they report a story and that is in direct conflict with the very reason that the founders thought the freedom of the press was so important. The freedom of the press was guaranteed in the bill of rights to protect the citizens and the news outlets which decided to speak out against our leadership.

But the aspect of this story that is the most absurd is the issue that pushed Barack Obama to the breaking point. The White House is upset because during his last visit to Boston the paper in question put Mitt Romney on the front page instead of  His Excellency:

My point about the op-ed was not that you ran it but that it was the full front page, which excluded any coverage of the visit of a sitting US President to Boston

I think that raises a fair question about whether the paper is unbiased in its coverage of the President’s visits

This does not mean that the Boston Herald did not cover Barack Obama’s last visit to the state, but rather that Dear Leader does not believe the paper gave the visit the front page coverage that he feels he justly deserves. Has there ever been a more fickle, self-centered, egotistical, thin-skinned, arrogant, and shallow president in the history of the United States that the mere fact he did not receive enough face time on the front page of a newspaper would be enough for him to exact this type of revenge? If there was I can’t think of one off the top of my head.

We’ve had many Presidents that fought with the media. Nixon comes to mind. but Obama is by far the most petty that I can remember.

I have a sad feeling that many of the press have caved. They get the promise of individual interviews. He is bearing down big time now with his election coming up.

They were in the bag for him last time and they will be again this time around, but some of them may turn on him if he continues these bullying tactics.

What seems to drive a majority of media is the desire for profits from advertising. The ability to charge for advertising is driven by circulation/viewership. Circulation & viewership is increased by exclusives & sensational reporting. No idea how to really solve it, but when you understand what drives the beast’s behavior you uderstand why it cannot be expected to perform differently. In effect, Obama is calling the tune and many of the media dance to it in order to avoid the banishment the Herald now faces. Add to that the intelligencia bias toward liberalism/progressivism (i.e., “I’m smarter than you, therefore it’s okay for me to tell you what’s best.”) To a large degree, unbiased reporting of facts has been put to death.

But perhaps there is a niche for the banished papers; with Obama’s poularity waning they could make some headway out of this.

That might just be the key to exposing him. Do you think that someone can poke at him, perhaps in a debate, long enough to get him to react? It might be a real game changer.

That could be all that it takes; in 2008 John McCain played to nice with him because he was afraid to go after him. Whoever the candidate is this time around really has to push Obama and see what happens.

This started before San Francisco even; during the campaign he kicked reporters off his plane because their newspapers endorced John McCain. I hope they are beginning to crack, but in the end they will probably still toe the party line.

Those were my thoughts exactly! The president better be careful to not bite the hand that feeds him. The press is a powerful ally of his, but if he keeps this up it is conceivable that they won’t go as easy on him.

Which would be ok with me 😀

Remember how the President reacted to the radio reporter in Texas who called him out on his answer about the Texas primary? From what I could tell, he berated the man when they went off the air, supposedly for not allowing him to finish his answer. Methinks it is because he couldn’t answer.

I do remember that Larry. He was actually upset that he was being asked tough questions and I think it is because he has been coddled for so long that he really never expected to be questioned.

So much for the “transparency”of this administration….IIRC Nixon had an “enemies list”….put the Globe on the “lapdog list”.
