Gunrunner explodes into a major scandal: Gunrunner weapons found at a second murder site

June 17, 2011

Operation Gunrunner was part of a larger government operation called “Fast and Furious” in which the United States ordered certain gun shops along the Mexican border to sell weapons to criminals in order to track the weapons in the hope of following the weapons to known high level Mexican drug lords. At least that is the official story coming out of the Obama regime now that Gunrunner is on the verge of becoming a huge scandal, but is there another nefarious reason behind this operation?

As I first wrote about here, Hillary Clinton said that the United States–and our insatiable appetite for drugs, and inability  to prevent weapons from being illegally smuggled across the border–was responsible for the violence along the Mexican border. In that post I claimed that Barack Obama was going to use the violence at the Mexican border to legitimize new gun control laws, but there are rumors that it goes well beyond this. The United Nations has passed a weapons ban treaty and there are rumors that the Obama regime planned on using the violence at the Mexican border to gain support with the American people for signing onto this treaty.

It turns out that Hillary Clinton may have been right all along when she said that America was responsible for this violence because the Obama regime was actively supplying the weapons to the drug lords that were being used in the violence against Americans. Is it possible that the Obama regime was using this program to help the Mexican drug lords and ensure the violence against Americans in order to drum up support for the United Nations treaty? Conspiratorial, yes. Out of the question, no. This president has such a fleeting relationship with the truth that I simply would not put this passed him.

And the news just keeps getting worse about Operation Gunrunner: As if it weren’t bad enough that one of the guns that the United States sold to Mexican drug lords was used in the murder of border patrol agent Brian Terry, Fox News in now reporting that two AK-47s which were sold to Mexican drug lords by the United States as part of Operation Gunrunner were found at the scene of the murder of Mario Gonzalez Rodriguez, a prominent Mexican lawyer and the brother of the former Mexican attorney general. Mario Rodriguez was not just murdered but was tortured for two weeks.

Two guns sold to a Mexican cartel and used in the high-profile kidnapping and murder of a Mexican lawyer last year were purchased under the U.S. Justice Department’s failed anti-gun trafficking program Operation Fast and Furious, sources tell Fox News.

U.S. law enforcement sources and officials in Washington told Fox News that two AK-47s were purchased in Arizona by a straw buyer — someone who legally buys guns, then illegal sells them to a third party – and were allowed to “walk” into Mexico. Police recovered the guns in the course of their investigation of the kidnapping of Mario Gonzalez Rodriguez.

Gonzales, brother of the now former attorney general of Chihuahua, Patricia Gonzalez Rodriguez, was kidnapped in October. He was taken by six gunmen from the Sinaloa cartel and tortured extensively over two weeks.

The United States–and the Obama regime–through its incredibly irresponsible operation and the utter ineptitude of the Department of Justice, is an accessory to murder in both the cases of Brian Terry and Mario Rodriguez–and who knows how many countless others, I think this is still just the tip of the iceberg.

Darrell Issa is holding hearings on this issue and he believes that the Department of Justice is trying to cover up this scandal.

First, he cites a letter that Assistant Attorney General Ronald Weich, head of the Justice Department’s office of legislative affairs, sent to Sen. Charles Grassley (R-Iowa), the ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee on Feb. 4, 2011. Issa characterizes that letter as a “lie.”

Secondly, Issa says the Justice Department made excessive and unjustifiable redactions in documents it provided to his committee.

Additionally, Issa says he does not believe Attorney General Eric Holder testified accurately in the Judiciary Committee on May 3, when he told Issa (who also serves on that committee) that he had only learned of the gun-running operation—called “Operation Fast and Furious”–a few weeks before that

By claiming that he didn’t believe Eric Holder “testified accurately” before the Judiciary Committee he is basically saying that Eric Holder is lying about what he knew and when he knew it. Eric Holder would have the American people–and the Judiciary Committee–believe that there was a covert operation in which 2,000 weapons were illegally sold to Mexican drug lords with the approval of the DOJ and that he had no idea this was going on. He would have us believe that a subordinate of his authorized this operation behind his back. It takes a willing suspension of disbelief to think that an operation of this magnitude was underway and that the person in charge of the DOJ had no idea this was going on.

In light of how disastrous this program now seems it is no wonder that Eric Holder is trying to cover this up; he has blood on his hands and this investigation needs to be expanded until we find out who ultimately was responsible for giving the go ahead. As unlikely as it appears that this program was being carried out unbeknownst to the head of the DOJ it is equally unlikely that Barack Obama knew nothing about this operation.

Heads need to roll, and while it will likely be an underling to Eric Holder who takes the fall for his boss, I don’t see any way that Eric Holder should be allowed to stay on as the head of the DOJ. Eric Holder has a boss as well, and that boss is Barack Obama; the American people deserve to know whether the president had any knowledge of Operation Gunrunner–and I find it highly likely that he did–and we deserve to know if he authorized it. I am not one who throws around the “I” word every time that Barack Obama does something that I disagree with because I would be content with defeating the president at the ballot box. But we have at least two murders which took place because of this policy–one American–and if Barack Obama knew this was going on then he deserves to be impeached because he took an oath to protect the American people, and by refusing to secure the border and by supplying guns to murderous drug lords he has been at least partially responsible for doing just the opposite.

Check out this exchange between Darrell Issa and Eric Holder from May 3rd in which Eric Holder complains about the amount of publicity Fast and Furious has received, to which Issa responds “we have dead Americans, I would say this hasn’t gotten enough attention.”

It is just not reasonable that an operation of this scope took place without Eric Holder’s knowledge. If. as he says only recently learned of this operation, then he is admitting his incompetence to hold the office of Attorney General. At the very least, Obama must throw him under the bus. Then we must throw Obama under the same bus in November of 2012.

There is no way this took place without Holder being involved, and as you said, in the rare chance that Holder was actually in the dark about this than it highlights his ineptitude and he should resign based on that alone.

2000 plus assault rifles? The amount of carnage these guns will have caused is imeasurable. This story is being ignored by the main stream. That explains how deep this goes.

Yes, the damage done is immeasurable, how many crimes were committed before these event happened? The Obama regime has blood on their hands and the fact that the mainstream media is ignoring this story is jounalistic malpractice.

I know what you’re saying, but I don’t buy the suggestion that Obama knowingly allowed the arming of drug gangs to promote violence against Americans as a means to gain support for the UN measure.

Some people claim that Roosevelt knew ahead of time that the Japanese were going to attack Pearl harbor, and didn’t take steps to put the force there on full alert because he wanted America in the war, and knew that public support for isolationist policies would evaporate after the raid. I don’t buy that.

Some people claim that George W. Bush knew beforehand that the twin towers would be bombed and took no steps to prevent it because it would afford him and his administration the opportunity to strengthen the power of the government, and the power of the executive branch within the government (“never let a good crisis go to waste” – nobody really believes Rahm Emmanuel came up with that idea, do they?). At any rate, I don’t believe it of President Bush.

Take gooed care, and may God bless us all!

I want to believe that the president would be adverse to such a nefarious plan as this but I cannot for the life of me figure out how ANYONE could feel selling AK-47s to known criminals with the realization that crimes would be committed with those weapons–possibly against Americans–could be a good idea. They knew crimes would be committed and by selling the weapons to these people they were in effect condoning and enabling these crimes to take place. Can you explain to me why this was thought to be a good idea if there was not some other plan in place?

Asking me a question like that makes no sense because I haven’t been carrying a brief for this plan. I only said I can’t believe the President knowingly endangered Americans by approving the plan, and pointed out some similar accusations that were made about other presidents.

At any rate, I’ve already said I think this was a foolish plan (unless I said stupid, I forget). I mentioned that it’s reflective of the arrogance of power, and suggested that it sounded like the kind of plan I might come up with after a few drinks – but I’d be sober in the morning, before the plan had a chance to be implemented.

Take good care and may God bless us all!

Yes you have said that this was a foolish plan–you may have said it was stupid, I do not remember either–but I find it hard to believe a plan of this magnitude would be conducted without the president’s knowledge. If he did know about this plan he had to have known that it could possibly put American lives in danger, to think otherwise would be equally as foolish as the plan itself.

Guys, we’re going to have to blast this a much as we can. We either have to force the MSM to cover it, or fall on their swords to cover it up.

Agreed! This is a scandal of epic proportions and yet the media is ignoring it for obvious reasons. It will be up to us once again to do the job the MSM is unwilling to do.

I’m glad Issa is on the side of the American people. Wish we had more congressman like him in Washington.

    TGY,
Can you think of any plausible explanation for tge program? Any tactical advantage to placing thousands of assault rifles in the hands of the violent cartels, do you really think that this was just a misguided attempt to address the situation at the border? I for one think the smalls arms treaty angle is the only explanation. Amd this administration has made no secret of their desire to surrender our soveriegnty to the UN.

I can see no viable tactical reason for giving these people arms other than the fact that there was an ulterior motive or this president is simply incompetent.
