Flooding in Minot, North Dakota
Taking a bit of a break from politics: There is a town in North Dakota called Minot which is facing troubles equal to which New Orleans faced after Hurricane Katrina. Minot, North Dakota has faced devastating floods and yet the media has not covered this story with the zeal in which they covered the New Orleans flood, and I think we all know the reason why.
If you get your news from the mainstream media you probably have not heard of the flooding in Minot but the residents of this town are feeling the devastating effects of this disaster just as much as the residents of New Orleans did several years ago. Just take a look at this video and you will understand what Minot residents are dealing with.
If you are familiar with this story you might not be familiar with the fact that one of our own conservative blogging warriors has been directly affected by the devastation. John Carey of Sentry Journal lives in Minot, North Dakota and he has seen the devastation from a personal level, yet like others in this part of the country he has been out in front helping his friends and his neighbors pull through this, while at the same time fighting for the larger cause and making the rounds across the blogosphere; only God knows how he is able to do it all.
John Carey has been writing about the Minot flooding as the news unfolds and you can read his latest post here, in this post he includes a link to the Red Cross and I ask that anyone who can to please donate to the people of Minot–I will be his week. If you read through John’s previous posts on the flooding you will see that in the midst of this disaster lies a truly inspiring story of what can happen when people in a community come together and help each other through a difficult time.
If you cannot donate money to Minot I ask that you please keep that community in your thoughts and in your prayers because the people of Minot face an uphill battle, many of them will never return home, but they have been forgotten by the same mainstream media which decided to politicize the New Orleans flooding after Katrina, and because of their unwillingness to cover this story I would venture to guess that donations have been down compared to New Orleans because people simply don’t know what is happening in Minot. The media may have forgotten them, but the people must not.

Thanks for your help with this Steve. As I said we’re not looking for pity, we just think that people need to know about the devastation that has occurred in one of their cities. Something the MSM has under-reported on in my opinion.

You are welcome John. There is no doubt that the media is under-reporting this story and because of this I bet that donations are down because it has slipped from the minds od the people.

That’s some extensive flooding up there. John, I hope all is well with you. I had an uncle stationed at the Air Force base there in the late 1960s.
And since this is happening on obama’s watch nothing is being done or reported by the MSM. We wouldn’t want to tarnish The Won. The callousness and indifference of this regime continues to amaze me. Bush was hammered over Katrina, even tough the City of New Orleans and the State of Louisiana did nothing. In Minot the National Guard is involved and I am going to assume that the Air Force is lending its support. Another difference is the hometown folks are on very good behavior.
John, my prayers and thoughts are with you. I can’t help much, but I’ll be sending a little that way. God Bless.

There is no doubt that the media is not holding Obama to the same standard here as they did with Bush during Katrina.

I had not heard of this. I bet the people of Minot are not whining about the government not saving them nor is there violence because of it.

The fact that you hadn’t heard of this is an indictment on the media, they simply do not care about this story because they can’t use it for their poitical purposes and the people of Minot are suffering because the people don’t realize they need help.

And they aren’t Democratic voters, either I bet.

OK, let me get the snarky comment out of the way– I guess Minot isn’t as “fun” to say as Tuscaloosa. I know that’s bad. But I will be praying for the folks there and for John and his family- I’m sure he is a great blessing to his friends and neighbors.
