Barack Obama blames the media for Washington’s problems

July 22, 2011

One issue that many of us have with the liberals is their position that everyone is a victim who is not to blame for their own failings; gone is personal responsibility, replaced with permanent victimhood. This has been highlighted by Barack Obama himself when he came out earlier today and blamed the “splintered media” for the partisanship that has ground Washington DC to a halt over the debt ceiling debate.

You’ve got a media that has become much more splintered,” Obama said. “So those of you who are of a Democratic persuasion are only reading The New York Times and watching MSNBC and if you are on the right, then you’re only reading the Wall Street Journal editorial page and watching FoxNews

And if that’s where you get your information, just from one side, if you never even have to hear another argument, then over time you start getting more dug in into your positions

The fact that there are media outlets that are conservative and media outlets that are liberal is nothing new; in fact liberals had a stranglehold on most of the media until the repeal of the “Fairness Doctrine” and the birth of Fox News, but there have always been conservative newspapers and liberal newspapers. This goes all the way back to the 1700’s when people like Benjamin Franklin were creating and publishing newspapers while also writing articles for the same newspapers using aliases to promote their own personal political agenda. So for the president to claim that this is some new phenomenon is completely false. He either is distorting history or is not educated in history.

But Barack Obama’s statement is more than a simple indictment on the media, for it is also an indictment of the American people. He makes the blanket statement that conservatives only read and listen to conservative media outlets and accuses liberals of only reading and listening to liberal media outlets, but he doesn’t know for a fact that this is true–and I would say that there are many Americans on both sides of the aisle that listen to both sides of the issues. I do and I know many others who do as well.

Barack Obama is stating that the American people simply do not understand the issues and he lays the blame for the ignorance of his subjects at the feet of the media. It couldn’t possibly be Washington’s fault that they cannot get anything accomplished so he looked for a scapegoat and he found a “splintered media” and an ignorant people to blame for all of his problems.

This is nothing new for Barack Obama, in fact this is keeping in line with a statement that he made during the campaign about people being confused because while we are “basically a decent people” we “listen to the wrong talk radio shows or watch the wrong TV networks,” as if he should be deciding what we should listen to and what we should watch.

Barack Obama claimed that people become “more dug in” to their positions because they are only getting their information from one side of the debate, but does not Dear Leader suffer from the same affliction he is bemoaning in the American people? There is no more far left ideologue in Washington than Barack Obama–from William Ayers to Reverend Wright–he has admitted to seeking out radicals and Marxists throughout his early life and he is being guided by these radicals–he hasn’t listened to the other side, and if he has he has ignored us–and he has the audacity to claim that the American people are too wedded to their political beliefs to understand that the political beliefs he is wedded to are the ones we should all adhere to?

This is also typical of liberals; their idea of bipartisanship is getting the conservatives to go along with whatever they propose. Barack Obama went to Washington and promised to change business as usual and he has failed to do that; instead of bringing the country together he has pushed the two sides farther apart–we saw it in the healthcare debate when the liberals refused to listen and resorted to procedural shenanigans in order to pass the bill–and he shouldn’t need to look very far in order to see who is at fault, all he needs to do is look in the mirror.

Sounds like Obama did an excellent job of describing himself. Also, I’m sure that his Marxist education was a tad biased.

He must have seen the poll where 70+ percent of Americans want a balanced budget amendment. What is he saying? If not for Fox we’d all be one happy family?

That is exactly what he is saying! He wants the media to be nothing more than a Ministry of Propaganda.

This fits right in with his saying that they didn’t get the message out after the “shellacking” they took last November. That somehow we didn’t understand the issues.

“He either is distorting history or is not educated in history.” Yes – he is distorting the history that he is not educated in.

He admits he took a shellacking but instead of listening to the people he has decided the people are wrong because he didn’t explain himself properly. The man’s ego will not allow him to see the truth, he is in denial.

Obama is the most partisan of all. The way he engages in demogoguing his opponents irks me so bad. The man hates a different point of view and that’s why he started that war with Fox News awhile back. The GOP have come up with ideas which would start to mend our budget or debt woes but Obama has rejected those plans because he isn’t interested in solving our debt crisis.

Exactly! He isn’t interested in ideas, he is interested only in leftist ideas. He continues to brush aside Republican ideas while claiming the Republicans don’t have any ideas on the table. If they don’t, it is because he won’t give them a seat at the table.

I hate to find myself agreeing with him, but he’s right ….. at least in one way. As long as we don’t talk with the opposition (and only ‘shout at’) and as long as we read only what we already believe, we DO only dig ourselves deeper into our belief systems — don’t mistake what I’m saying — that goes for both/either side(s).

Still, he’s the pro at using the race card, or class warfare, and then he blames the media? That’s a refreshing switch ….. almost!

But I think he argument is flawed because he has no way of knowing if people watch different channels. I know many conservatives who listen to NPR and watch CNN and MSNBC so they can get the other side.

This is really getting more than a little tiresome, listening to the President talk down to the American people, the media, the Republicans, and anyone else he can think of to blame. I’m glad we are not as ignorant as he would have us believe.

The elites are so “smart,” believing in Big Government and Central Planning. Ordinary folk are so “dumb,” believing in free markets and self-reliance.

Splintered I guess means not toeing the party line. Lucky for the American people the internet has emerged as a litmus test to all the lies and spin put out by politicians.

Obama is only partly correct, as to the American people being splintered (i.e. some listening exclusively to liberal media, others listening exclusively to conservative media). But @satt1313 hit the nail on the head. The internet is a wonderful forum where “lies and spin” eventually dies. Justice Louis D. Brandeis had once said “Sunshine is the best disinfectant.”

Liars and thugs prefer the cover of darkness. Lawmakers prefer making secret deals behind closed doors. Disinformation cannot survive daylight.

For propaganda to thrive, the Central Planners must implement censorship. Therefore, they may propose regulation of the internet via a new “Fairness Doctrine.” A Trojan horse to accomplish this => “Net Neutrality”

Net Neutrality will give the feds the foot in the door in regards to regulating the internet, and that is exactly what they plan to do eventually. Even though the courts have already ruled the FCC does not have the authority to do so.

Exactly, Obama would prefer that the media all acted as one big propaganda arm for his regime, and he is upset that not every outlet will toe the party line.
