Was the United States government selling military grade weapons to the Zetas?

As if the Gunrunner scandal wasn’t big enough on its own it became even bigger when we learned about Operation Castaway; the ATF in Florida was selling weapons to known criminals in Honduras, and these weapons have turned up at crime scenes all across the globe. These two programs alone should be enough to force Eric Holder’s resignation and prosecution, as well as a closer look into what and when Barack Obama knew about these operations, but alas there may be more.
It is now rumoured that the State Department was running guns to a violent gang known as the Zetas; using a legitimate government program designed to sell military grade weapons to other governments.
From the intel, it appears that a company was set up in Mexico to purchase weapons through the U.S. Direct Commercial Sales Program, and that the company may have had a direct link to the Zetas
At this point I would say that the government has some plausible deniability; it is possible that this company was sent up as a front for the Zetas and the federal government was unaware of who was really running this company, but if that is the case it really isn’t much more comforting to note that the federal government has no idea to whom it is selling anti-aircraft weapons and rocket propelled grenades, is it?
Even if the Obama regime has plausible deniability and we give the Obama regime the benefit of the doubt it still casts a large shadow on the competency of this rogue regime and is further proof that Barack Obama is in this way over his head and needs to be removed from office as soon as possible. But I am not so sure at this point that the Obama regime deserves the benefit of the doubt.
While I would love to give the Obama regime the benefit of the doubt–nobody really wants to believe that their government could stoop to such a level–and state that the Obama regime was simply criminally negligent, incompetent, and didn’t knowingly sell military grade weapons to the Zetas the fact is I cannot make that claim with certitude.
The Obama regime has lost all credibility on this issue with Operation Gunrunner, Operation Fast and Furious, and Operation Castaway; they created these programs to sell weapons to our enemies and then denied any knowledge of these programs or their intent, so how are we supposed to believe the Obama regime didn’t knowingly sell these military grade weapons to the Zetas?
Darrel Issa and Chuck Grassley have done an outstanding job in bringing the depth of these scandals to light and have exposed this as a criminal regime whose programs have led to the deaths of thousands of Mexicans and at least two Americans to this point, but this investigation has to be expanded once again for we must know how the hell the Zetas were able to purchase weapons from the United States government.

Damn! When is the lid going to be blown off of this scandal? When is the MSM going to do their job? Watergate was covered by all media and Monicagate was covered by all media. This president seems to get a free pass on every thing. My frustration level is in the red zone!

Why is it so surprising that the US government would sell arms to groups we officially don’t like? It’s not as if this is the first time it’s happened; as I recall, even Saint Ronald’s administration engaged in it.

And nobody made a big deal out of that, right? There is a major difference here though, in those situations we were supporting one side in a war against another, while this may or may not have been something we should have been engaged in in the past, this is uncomparable because we simply decided to give known drug lords these weapons, they were not engaged in a military action in which we had an interest. So what was the motive behind this?

A big deal was made, but were those responsible held accountable? Also – in Iran-Contra, we were supplying Iran with weapons (just a few short years after they’d taken our embassy personnel hostage for over a year), then use the proceeds from those sales to fund the Venezuelan contras, people that Reagan called “freedom fighters.”
The fact is, though, that there was no way this nation, as a policy, supported Iran in any war, and when it came to Venezuela, when you looked at the actions of the two sides, it was real hard to say which was the dirtier.
I don’t think there’s enough evidence yet made public to make such declaratory judgments about today’s situation except that in the past, sting operations usually involved fake drugs or spiked guns. With what looks like a track record forming, I sure hope the Holder DOJ doesn’t get it into its head to try to identify whackos trying to buy nukes on the black market. And have they checked the serial numbers on that nuttjob’s weapons in Norway?

Your point is still valid and I am not trying to defend Iran/Contra, but whether of not you supported that effort it is still different then this because we were simply providing known violent drug related criminals with weapons and what could the United States possible gain from this. What was the motive?

Steve, maybe you consider drafting a letter or editorial of some sort get it out there get the bloggers to sign it and endorse it, maybe a petition, get it out to all of the major newspapers, and news networks, that we demand answers and that this story starts getting attention, this looks like it goes way beyond a way infringe on americans rights and maybe just maybe our governement is purposly arming these thugs with an even more nefarious plan in mind, just look into the latest news about the former Acorn joining the SEIU in a plan of financial terrorism, remember Acorn is the Clintons baby, Obama reperesented them as a lawyer and he is a self declared fighting member of SEIU. Nobody visited the white house more than Andy Stern.
