Gunrunner: Darrell Issa claims the Obama regime was intimidating witnesses

July 26, 2011

The story of Kenneth Melson–the acting head of the ATF–is well known to anybody who is paying close attention to the Gunrunner scandal: Eric Holder, or some other higher up in the Obama regime, tried to make Mister Melson the fall guy for this botched and deadly operation by calling for his resignation. But Kenneth Melson refused to resign until he was allowed to present his side of the story to the Congress–the problem being that the “Justice” Department was refusing to let him testify because they wanted an assurance that his testimony would be limited. Kenneth Melson eventually got the chance to clear his name in a secret meeting with Darrell Issa’s Oversight Committee using a personal attorney instead of a “Justice” Department attorney so that he would be free to state the truth as he saw it, and not the watered down truth the “Justice” department hoped for.

Kenneth Melson’s testimony was pretty damning and led Darrel Issa to declare that the “Justice” Department was obstructing the investigation into this murderous scandal. As all of this was going on a video surfaced which showed all of those paying attention that Eric Holder knew about Gunrunner from its inception, and in fact he had perjured himself in front of the Congress when he laughingly claimed that he knew nothing about the botched operation until it came to light in the media.

As if lying to the Congress and trying to obstruct Kenneth Melson’s testimony before the Congress wasn’t bad enough Darrell Issa is now claiming that the Obama regime was trying to intimidate potential witnesses.

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell E. Issa, California Republican, said at least two scheduled witnesses expected to be asked about a controversial weapons investigation known as “Fast and Furious”received warning letters from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to limit their testimony.

Mr. Issa said at least one witness wanted to back out of testifying to his committee after receiving the letter, but the chairman declined that request. Instead he fired a letter back to William J. Hoover, deputy director of ATF, saying the “timing and content of this letter strongly suggest that ATF is obstructing and interfering with the congressional investigation.”

According to Darrell Issa, at least two potential witnesses received threatening letters “urging” them to limit their testimony before the Oversight Committee–and one of them was so worried that he or she tried to back out of testifying, but Darrell Issa would not allow it. This is what the federal government of the United States has reduced itself to? Authorizing a program to create a crisis in an attempt to impose an “assault” weapons ban on law abiding American citizens, only to deny and coverup the story while intimidating those who knew the truth and were called to testified, in an attempt to protect Dear Leader and his minions?

Eric Holder is already guilty of perjury and he should resign pending a criminal trial, and now higher ups in the ATF–probably at the behest of Eric Holder–have allegedly been involved in a witness tampering and intimidation campaign. Is there any more proof needed that the Obama regime has been involved in a nefarious plan as well as a coverup of that plan once it went awry? It is time for a special investigator to take over because this is fast becoming a criminal investigation and not simply an act of stupendous stupidity.

But Darrell Issa didn’t stop there, as he still finds it unbelievable that Eric Holder didn’t know anything about this scandal:

Mr. Issa also said he is certain the Fast and Furious operation was known by most top officials at the Justice Department and that Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. either knew and misled Congress, or was so out of the loop that he’s guilty of mismanagement.

“How is it that the No. 2, 3, 4 at Justice all knew about this program, but the No. 1 didn’t?,” Mr. Issa said. “Is it because he said ‘don’t tell me’? Is it because they knew what they were doing is wrong, and they were protecting their boss? Or is it that Eric Holder is just so disconnected … ?

“Whichever it is — he knew and he’s lied to Congress, or he didn’t know, and he’s so detached that he wasn’t doing his job — that really probably is for the administration to make a decision on, sooner not later,” Mr. Issa said.

Darrell Issa hit this one out of the park: Either Eric Holder lied to the Congress in order to protect either himself or his boss, or he is grossly negligent and unfit for the command bestowed upon him. Either way he should resign, but as I said above it is time for a special investigator to get involved because I find it highly unlikely that everyone in the Obama regime knew about this scandal except for Barack Obama and Eric Holder. The Obama regime was not intimidating witnesses because they had nothing to hide–I smell smoke and I suspect the Reichstag is on fire.

Me thinks maybe that smelly stuff is about to hit the fan. It couldn’t happen to nicer or more deserving people.

I certainly hope so, there seems to be enough here now to turn this over to a special prosecutor.

One has to wonder how far this will go before something or someone gives way. They are fooling themselves if they think the Obama administration is going to go scott free on this.

Something has to give in this, the Obama regime cannot be held blameless. Although the media is ignoring the story so perhaps Obama feels as if he can ride this out.

Issa has guts and integrity to expose this corrupt regime. No doubt he too has been threatened but won’t back down. Obama & co thought they could trick Americans out of their guns. What a lowlife administration.

Issa is doing a great job even with the DOJ stonewalling him on the information, I hope that he keeps this up and I think that he will.
