Did Joe Biden call the Tea Party terrorists?

August 1, 2011

In the aftermath of the Arizona shooting the president and others said that it was time to usher in a new age of civility because the violent rhetoric and over the top vitriol were to blame for Gabrielle Gifford’s shooting. The media was quick to rush towards judgement and went out of their way to blame Sarah Palin for “targeting” Congressmen who she felt should be voted out of office. It was assumed that Jared Loughner was some crazed right wing extremist spurred to action by the hatefilled message emanating from the right. This was quickly disproven, but no apologies have ever come forth from those that made the outrageous claim.

But while the left condemned the rhetoric and the vitriol and tried to silence their opponents through fear, the fact is that the left has remained actively engaged in the very same type of behavior they condemned the right for–in fact they have taken it to a new level by calling people who oppose their policies terrorists.

Democrat Mike Doyle was the first to call the Tea Party terrorists:

We have negotiated with terrorists,” an angry Doyle said, according to sources in the room. “This small group of terrorists have made it impossible to spend any money
And it is being reported by several people in the room that Joe Biden joined in the fun:

Biden, driven by his Democratic allies’ misgivings about the debt-limit deal, responded: “They have acted like terrorists,” according to several sources in the room
Naturally Joe Biden is denying this claim, although he did admit that several Congressmen in the room were engaged in this violent rhetoric. Even if we give Joe Biden the benefit of the doubt–which I am not willing to do–he is on record as stating that the Republicans had “guns to their heads” during the debt ceiling debate. Unless I am “misremembering” something; we were told after the Arizona shooting that this type of rhetoric was enough to push a crazed person who didn’t understand the different concepts of literal vs figurative talk over the edge and inspire them to murder. What has changed since that day? Why is this rhetoric not being condemned by the same news outlets which condemned Sarah Palin?

We all know the answer to those questions, don’t we? All I want is a little consistency out of those who would try to tell us how to behave and what to say; these people want it both ways. They try to stifle debate and control criticism when it is leveled at them, but when they are the ones doing the criticism all bets are off; no term is beyond reproach because the end justifies the means and if they can paint the Tea Party as terrorists that is exactly what they aim to do.

So much for that new era of civil discourse.

We have a Do As I Say Not As I Do regime. You can call the Tea Party terrorists but pity the fool who says the same thing about islamosupremacist jihadis.

What I wouldn’t give for a few minutes alone with Joe Biden or any of the other liberals who called the Tea Party members terrorists. All because they made it impossible to spend any money? Since when did that start to equate to someone being a terrorist?

A great question Larry! When did trying to be responsible become a crime?

I think I could have a great time pointing out just how stupid that kind of thing sounds. Ignorance gone to seed, if you ask me.

I know Larry! It sounds so stupid and yet this is the mindset we are dealing with.

Great post Steve. Unfortunately you’re not going to find the consistency you seek from the left. They live in an ends justifies the means mindset. These are the left overs from the sixties who called police officers “pigs” and staged violent protest to end the Vietnam War. They lack principles and honor my friend. They believe and nothing. This is why we will defeat them in the end.

Thanks John, I think we can defeat them, I just hope it doesn’t take too long. They are causing more and more damage every day. The left doesn’t have to worry about consistency because they have a media which will never call them out on it. It is one hell of a machine we are up against.

My Grandmother is horrified that Tea Party Patriots are referred to as “terrorists” by the vice president of the US. It’s shows how far this country has fallen under this “leadership” in two torturous years.

It really is a disgusting libel and to think it came from so high up in the Obama regime is simply stunning. So much for bringing the country together.

Has your grandmother listened to every republican who opens his mouth? They are all anti President Obama and have been since day one. They say anything, almost all are untrue, and have said NO to every policy he has tried to implement while trying to fix the mess Bush left us in. Just a reminder, Bush took our national debt from 5.5 trillion to 11 trillion…Nice job repulicans!

There is a reason they have said no to all of these socialistic polices which Obama supports. You need to stop blaming Bush, this is Obama’s problem now and everything he has tried to do has deepened this crisis.

Biden was wrong – he should have called them extortionists or kidnappers. They took hostage the good faith and credit of the US and refused to release them until their demands were met.

Terrorists wouldn’t have bothered negotiating and wouldn’t have come to any deal, no matter how much the President and his party capitulated.

Take good care and may God bless us all!

Those terms would have been more accurate and much less offensive, but I would argue they did a horrible job in extorting–$10 billion in cuts while Obama now gets an additional $1 trillion, he will take that deal every time.

ROTFLMAO!!!! Congress has gone over 800 days without producing a budget. The majority of that time while the democrats had control of both houses. They could have come up with something before now. They intentionally put us on this course of destruction so they could blame the republicans. They are the ones hijacking our legacy for political gain.

The only problem is that finally I believe the american public is not falling for the BS anymore. The anointed one’s approval rating has dipped below 40%. Bye Bye mr. obama, don’t let the door hit you on the way out after the 2012 elections!

Holy Crap! This is exactly what is wrong with politics in this country. Republicans and Democrats, probably equally represented have fought and died for our freedoms. Yet Republicans lie, and spread hate everyday on thousands of radio talk shows across this country, fox news, limbaugh, gunny bob dumbass, and a state full of ignorant idiots that seldom watch fact based reporting. A democrat finally stands up to this arrogance and you cry like babies. What a buch of hipocrits! Every one of these republican farmers have their hands out for subsidies as I am sure you benifit from social progams instituted by democrats. But you accept the money because that is all republicans stand for bullshit and money. Support the rich like you did Bush. 5 trillion to 11 trillion in debt. Nice job republicans! Two wars! Nice job! Get bin laden? Shit no! I am sick of republicans slamming democrats. We put up with bush knowing he was an idiot. Even stuck up for the dumbass. No spending? See what kind of prosperity that gets us. I think you are all on a destructive mission without a care for the United States of America. Took bush 8 years to run us into the sewer, it will take 8 years to get us out. That is if we can get rid of the idiot tea party people.

Hey, I stumbled onto a republican site. Nice. I am amazed at what radio talk shows and fox news has been able to make people believe. Like you said, say it enough and pretty soon people believe it. Doesn’t really matter if it is a lie just say it over and over….does get republicans elected. Do not have to know how to govern, just politic. Check out the facts people, republicans are the big spenders, blame it on democrats, give all the breaks to big business, and then expect the democrat to come in and fix a mess, that took eight years to create, in a couple of years. Ya, don’t spend a dime on creating job producing programs and see how many are out of work…

I’m a left-leaning independent, and not a big fan of the Tea Party, but I agree that Dems need to take a look in the mirror when they tell the other side they need to tone down their rhetoric. The fact is that it is very easy to demonize people who are not on your side when you are surrounded only by people who agree with you (especially on blogs!). I think this is what happened with the Dems here (that doesn’t make it right, though). It takes true leadership to stand up to such demagoguery from one’s own side, and unfortunately neither party has found a leader to silence their own potty mouths.

Did Biden directly insinuate that the Tea Party activists were terrorists? Probably not, looking at the way it was reported. However, that doesn’t change the fact that he didn’t admonish his fellow party members for using the “T” word. I’m disappointed in him, and I hope that leaders will have the courage to keep things civil in the future.
