Senator John Kerry says the media has a responsibility to not give equal time to the Tea Party

August 5, 2011

Back in 2007 John Kerry supported the idea of bringing back the Fairness Doctrine, declaring:

I think the Fairness Doctrine ought to be there and I also think equal time doctrine ought to come back. I mean these are the people who wiped out one of the most profound changes in the balance of the media is when the conservatives got rid of the equal time requirements. And the result is that, you know, they’ve been able to squeeze down and squeeze out opinion of opposing views and I think it’s been an important transition in the imbalance of our public

In 2007 John Kerry thought it was important to make sure that “opposing views” were not “squeezed out” by the media and supported the Fairness Doctrine as a necessary tool to ensure that liberals had a voice on talk radio. But that was 2007 and this is 2011 and the times have changed. John Kerry was for the Fairness Doctrine before he was against it because when asked about the influence of the Tea Party this morning John Kerry stated the media has a responsibility to not give the Tea Party equal time:

And I have to tell you, I say this to you politely. The media in America has a bigger responsibility than it’s exercising today. The media has got to begin to not give equal time or equal balance to an absolutely absurd notion just because somebody asserts it or simply because somebody says something which everybody knows is not factual

Which is it senator? Does the media have the responsibility to provide balanced coverage or do they not have the responsibility to provide balanced coverage?

John Kerry has decided that the Tea Party’s positions of balancing the budget, shrinking the government, and reigning in government spending is an absurd position to hold, and because of this absurdity he feels as if the media has the responsibility to ignore the opposition’s position. This is a far cry from John Kerry’s 2007 position.

Because the Tea Party has an opposing opinion, John Kerry has decided that this opinion is not a legitimate opinion and naturally if you oppose John Kerry your position is absurd and should not be validated by receiving coverage in the media. As if one man can decided the absurdity of a position and declare it not newsworthy.

This highlights the true reasons behind the left’s support of reinstituting the Fairness Doctrine; it is not about fairness at all, but rather about drowning out the opposition and this is evidenced by John Kerry’s remarks earlier today. If you oppose a liberal you hold an absurd position and should be silenced so that all can be awed by the superior intelligence of the left without being distracted by those that do not hold the same beliefs.

Of course the true reason that John Kerry wants the Tea Party silenced is not because the platform of the Tea Party is absurd, but rather because the Tea Party is winning the argument. The debt ceiling debate has been hailed as a Tea Party victory even though most Tea Party Republicans voted against this legislation, and it is considered a victory because the Tea Party managed to change the debate in Washington even if they did not win the total victory it had hoped to.

But even though Tea Party members are disappointed with John Boehner and Mitch McConnell for selling out to the Democrats, the fact is that the Tea Party has gained momentum and the left sees the Tea Party as a legitimate threat to their power in the upcoming election in 2012 and so they assault is on; the left is going to attack, denigrate, libel, and lie about the true goal of the Tea Party in an attempt to diminish the influence of the Tea Party in the upcoming elections.

And now John Kerry has gone so far as to say the Tea Party does not deserve a voice in the media, and should be suppressed by the media–even though back in 2007 he was lamenting what he thought was the suppression of liberal ideals on talk radio–and this is coming from a man who has told us that we should “celebrate diversity.”

The left is running scared and they do not know how to handle this repudiation of their policies, so instead of debating the issues in an open forum people like John Kerry has decided that media censorship is the only alternative they have left to stop the emergence of the Tea Party. The left laughed at the Tea Party in the beginning, but they are not laughing any more, are they?

The war criminal, communist, intolerant, John Kerry whose rhetoric is irrelevant & policies are destroying America should zip his lips. I agree John Kerry and his ilk should stop spewing their irrelevant, failed, radical policies and the MSM media should stop advocating their failed polices. He’s really not for fairness. He’s only for what benefits him, his cronies, and their political ideology. Its all about silencing dissent.

This is only the beginning as you stated the left is losing the argument, expect the rhetoric to ratchet up, and as the elections draw near expect the violence to increase as well, already there have been incidents of mobs of black youths randomly attacking white people with a few incidents in chicago in july, and another last night in wisconson. I remember a speech in June by Farrkhan where warned of blood in the streets. That combined with the rhetoric from everyone on the left up to and including the white house, a dismal economy, and the guaranteed austerity measures that are sure to come from all levels of government has all the makings of a perfect storm.

You are right, this is only the beginning. As we get closer to the election the rhetoric will be ratcheted up and the attackes will grow more vile as the left looks to incite violence it can blame on the Tea party.

There are so many assholes, but Kerry seems to want to top the list. Oh how I wish he would be silenced and given the BOOT. Who in their “right” mind could EVER vote for him: http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2011/07/kerry_spokesman_stripped_of_silver_star.html
Kerry spokesman stripped of Silver Star

“Wade Sanders is now in Federal prison, serving a 37-month sentence for possessing child pornography. Now the Navy Times reports that Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus has revoked Sanders’ Silver Star. The highly unusual decision appears unrelated to Sanders’ felony conviction. A Navy spokesman cited “subsequently determined facts and evidence surrounding both the incident for which the award was made and the processing of the award itself.” John Kerry has to be hoping this doesn’t become a trend.

As one might imagine, the media has ignored this story. Even the Navy Times declined to post its own article online (update: initially. Now it is posted here.)”

John Kerry is afraid. Very afraid. Once again the left shows their desperation. If we can’t beat them, silence them. You got it right Steve, the Tea Party is winning. We need to keep the momentum. But Barack Hussein has gotten himself into a good position. If this latest fiscal thing works he will claim credit. If it doesn’t, he will blame the Republicans/Tea Party/Conservatives/Responsible Americans. In other words “Us”. We have the momentum – let’s do whatever we can to keep it. Kinda hard when the Obama Propaganda Machine, the Lame Stream Media and MSDNC are in his pocket.

The left is afraid because for the first time they understand that the Tea Party is a legitimate movement, when was the last time you heard them call us teabaggers?
With the news of the credit downgrade it appears to me as if there is no credit for Obama to take.

What happened to Kerry’s respect for the First Amendment “…abridging the freedom of speech, infringing on the freedom of the press, ….”

Yes they are pressed and will do anything to retain power. Including stifling the freedom of speech. I wonder if they would like to bring back the Fairness Doctrine would they be as adamant to reviving the Sedition Act? I think it would be almost a fair trade?

They only care about the first amendment when they feel it can help them, but this shows how desperate they are becoming because we are winning this debate.

This is the kind of tactics that tyrannical regimes have used in the past to control the message. It made it easier to control the people. Maybe he would like to get rid of the Bill of Rights while he’s at it. Why not go for broke, And this is a US senator….how sad is that.

Yes, control the message and you will control the people because the people will only “know” what you want them to know. He wants the media to become even more of a propaganda arm for the Democrats than they already are.

I’m glad you caught this piece. I was going to write something on it but have been too busy this week. Again, when the tide turns against the Left their only solution is to censor differing ideas. Very disturbing considering this man ran for president and could have won.

Very true, when the Democrats’ message isn’t winning instead of trying to win people over to their side they try to shut the other side down.

The same John Kerry whose worth totals about 188 million bucks. The one who tells us we have to sacrifice more while he docks his boat in R.I. to avoid Mass. taxes? Sounds like he has something in common with the Tea Party. At least the hating on high taxes part 😉

If a conservative politician OR private (conservative) citizen were to make comments suggesting that any group or even an individual’s opposing view, now matter how “absurd”, should be suppressed or regulated, there would be outrage and possibly even legal action taken. The notion that Kerry, in his high profile position, can suggest such oppression against such a prominent organization without consequence is a glaring example of the arrogance that has led our country from greatness to its current identity crisis. God help us all.
