ExxonMobil files suit against the Obama regime

August 27, 2011

Claiming that the Obama regime’s decision to pull its lease for deepwater drilling in the Gulf  “deprives ExxonMobil of property without due process of law,” ExxonMobil has filed suit against the Obama regime.

When the Obama regime pulled ExxonMobil’s permit the wells had already been drilled and the company was in the process of connecting these wells to existing oil platforms in the Gulf of Mexico–the oil was just about ready to flow–but this decision by the Obama regime denied ExxonMobil access to billions of barrels of oil and assured that this loss of property would keep oil prices higher than they would be if Exxon Mobil was allowed to tap into oil reserves which it was already permitted access to.

From his drilling moratorium in the Gulf, which has already been ruled illegal by the courts, to the cap and trade policy which the EPA is readying to implement, every position this president has taken has insured that oil prices will remain high. And now ExxonMobil is claiming that the Obama regime has denied them access to billions of barrels of oil right here in United States’ waters.

Barack Obama claims that America must end its dependency of foreign oil–and I agree with this contention–and while renewable energies may be possible in the future, part of the solution is drilling for more oil right here in the United States, but this is not something that Barack Obama condones and because of this his policies have led to higher energy prices–crippling already struggling families and ensuring that there will be no relief in sight.

Barack Obama is more interested in pursuing his radical environmental policies than he is interested in helping struggling American families access to cheaper oil prices and that is evident in every action he has taken as president. The BP oil spill gave Barack Obama the “crisis” that he needed in order to halt oil drilling in the Gulf of Mexico, and this is a “crisis” that he has taken full advantage of.

If Barack Obama was serious about ending America’s dependency on foreign oil his policies would include an expansion in oil drilling in this country, but as I have stated above, that is not the goal of the Obama regime. He doesn’t want to end America’s dependency on foreign oil, what he want to do is ensure that Americans are dependent on his government for their necessities. And so far he has been quite successful at attaining this goal.

I am hoping that this lawsuit is successful and Barack Obama is knocked off of his soapbox, but we have already seen in the past the disdain that Barack Obama has for court rulings and their is no guarantee that if ExxonMobil wins this lawsuit that Barack Obama will adhere to the will of the courts because Barack Obama feels as if he is above the courts.

I’m tired of hearing the lie that increased domestic drilling will lower oil (and gasoline) prices. Oil drilled in the US is sold on the world market, not restricted to sale in the US. Prices are pretty much set by OPEC when they set their production quotas – if we start adding an addition million barrels a day to the world output and if has an impact on prices that OPEC doesn’t like they simply cut back production by about a million barrels.

And if we were somehow to produce enough oil here to break OPEC, prices still wouldn’t come down – oil companies are in business to make money – as much as they can (they’re capitalists, remember?)

As to this infamous 8% mnarkup we keep hearing about, that’s not why oil companies record record profits – they get those huge profits because they mark up the cost of the oil as well, instead of passing those costs along without marking them up.

Take good care, and may God bless us all!
