New Hampshire House overrides Governor Lynch’s Castle Doctrine veto

September 15, 2011

In the last legislative session in New Hampshire the State House and the State Senate passed an expansion of the Castle Doctrine–dubbed the stand your ground bill–by veto proof majorities. The “stand your ground” bill expanded the already existing Castle Doctrine to ensure that a person in New Hampshire who was legally carrying a weapon could defend themselves without fear of prosecution not only in their homes but in any place where they had a legal right to be.

Governor John Lynch swiftly vetoed the “stand your ground” bill so the process of overriding the veto was set in motion. Two weeks ago the State Senate voted by a margin of 17-7 to override the veto, so all eyes turned to the State House and yesterday the State House voted to override the veto by a vote of 251-111. Neither vote was close and now the “stand your ground” is law and residents of New Hamphsire can defend themselves wherever they have a right to be when they feel their life or the lives of others are in danger.

As it should be! This is what I would like for Illinois, but it won’t happen. Here we have to worry if you shoot someone IN your home, best kill them or they will probably take you to court and take everything you have. I know it doesn’t make sense, but little in Illinois does, anymore. Let’s hope our 2nd Amendment rights stay strong.

Hopefully Illinois will come to their senses someday. To think that you cannot defend yourself or your family within your own home is unbelievable!

Somewhat on topic: I worry about the Supreme Court and the balance. Does anyone else ever think of what will happen if we lose a conservative judge and another liberal is appointed? We have one judge ( Anthony Kennedy) that is a “swing vote”, so things are iffy right now. Let’s hope they stay healthy and in office until we can get this Administration changed around for the better.

It is a scary thought because if you remember the Heller decision stated that the second amendment was a personal right–a major victory but it was decided by a 5-4 decision. That is how close we are to losing this right.

How could someone be against this bill?

Well, most of the law enforcement officials were. Do they really think that because of this bill law abiding citizens are suddenly going to turn New Hampshire into the wild west. It shows us how they feel about the citizenry.

I have a feeling that we have become the enemy and the sooner they can do away with the guns or ammo, the better. Citizens are so much more controllable when they are not armed, aren’t they?

Steve, the Wild West had its’ advantages, didn’t it? I would rather have the protection if needed on the street, but apparently our government has other plans for us and I doubt we will like them.

Yes, an unarmed public is a public which is much more easliy controlled and that drives many of the anti-second amendment people. I agree, I would rather walk down the street knowing that I can protect myself and not have to rely on other to protect me,

We had a big scare when Supremeo Ginsburg had to take the big slide down the Airplane due to a forced landing this week. It could have been a disaster. Not that her replacement would have been any better, but it would have been someone for decades. If we just hang on, we may get a couple of Conservatives on there. A brush with destiny for sure.

Bunkerville, I remember reading some time back that Justice Kennedy was wanting to retire, but he was holding off til this administration is out of office. We have to give him credit for that, at least he is aware of what would happen with another liberal on the bench. And Steve, the Heller decision was a close call, too close! Pretty much we are just one judge away from losing control of our country, aren’t we?

I agree, while replacing Ginsburg would not change the makeup of the court it would have ensured a liberal justice for many years to come because her replacement would have been much younger than she.

And we will soon; Governor Lynch is not running for reelection so the question is, will we elect someone like him or will we go in a different direction?

    How to make people see
There is nothing one can do to make US citizens see the truth. The USA has become so big that it has lost sight of it’s own people. If one speaks up: his character is marked as looking for fifteen minutes of fame, looking to make money or just a criminal trying to distort the truth for self-gain. The NH Supreme Court now protects brother Judge/Attorneys by diminishing our guaranteed rights as citizens of the USA. Everyone has learned to conform or compromise to keep from being marked as a troublemaker. Freedom of speech has become speak nice so your message does not harm the powerful. The truth is so distorted by the news media no one can understand life is just passing you by. US military Veterans coming home even today find help is hard to get for the simple reason we as a nation have become so big it has lost sight of is own citizens.
A 100% disabled US Military Veteran (Me) with PTSD, TBI, broken back and loss of hearing writes letters everyday. So few pick apart my letters as gibberish, rambling, a mental case that no one hears my words for fear of their own character. The VA calls me a mental case unable to make since so I am cast aside as a stray dog left like the homeless on the street. The NH government calls me a danger to public safety for the sole purpose to take my freedom with public gratification. My medical care is stopped to teach me to obey government authority. No one hears my words for I am a mental case from what I did to keep you the citizens of the USA free under the control of your own government.
I volunteer my time to help a Madbury NH family that I did not even know that called to ask for help. The NH Supreme Court refuses to hear a case clearly documented of judge Peter Fauver criminally violating the Constitution to enable the Madbury NH selectmen to take from local residents with the trusted power of government for personal self gain. Law enforcement harassment and judicial miss conduct put me in jail as a terrorist under the patriot act.
Publicly my letters are read around the world but nothing can be done. The VA ignores with their finger on the death button in hope of suicide. The elected officials use law enforcement intimidation to cause acts to take my freedom to satisfy public inquires. Hopeless, lost and nothing can be done as the words of US Military Veterans no one hears as you tell us that you are listening.
The number of times prominent citizens have told me in a civilized society we talk that violence is not necessary. US Military Veterans coming home even today are lost in a system that just is too big to see us. No one sees my disabilities as to believe veterans take advantage of government handouts.
I am classified as so big of a danger my words are censored by the news media to protect the public. Can the USA be so big that the individual no longer matters? You have no idea what the life of a US Military Combat Veteran is until you have been in our shoes. To make people see must be to stop the news media from censoring a disabled veterans words of the VA stopping medical care for the sole purpose of government retribution.
