Gunrunner: The federal government purchased weapons and then sold them to drug lords

September 26, 2011

I have a confession to make, I guess at times I can be a little naive: Shortly after the deadly Operation Fast and Furious was thrust into the public knowledge we learned that somewhere between $40 million and $50 million in stimulus money was used to fund the scandal. I just naturally assumed that this stimulus money was used for the startup and implementation–logistics and surveillance–of the deadly operation and it never even occurred to me that that money might have been used to purchase the weapons which were eventually sold to known Mexican drug lords, but with this report it now seems as if this is indeed the case.

the federal government used taxpayer money to buy semi-automatic weapons, sold them to criminals and then watched as the guns disappeared
This news flies in the face of the “Justice” Department’s defense that the operation was the result of a few rogue agents who acted independently of the “Justice” Department and also casts even more doubt (as if any more were needed) as to whether or not the ATF was simply an observer in this operation. Eric Holder and the Obama regime have maintained their innocence in this scandal from the beginning by claiming that the ATF was simply monitoring the operation and the weapons were lost somewhere along the line, and casts into doubt the regime’s official position that they didn’t know about the operation until after the death of Brian Terry. The federal government was doing more than monitoring the sales–the were actually purchasing and selling these weapons to known drug lords. The federal government was not only duplicitous in this scandal, they were complicit in the implementation of this deadly operation.

There is also no way in hell that this was the act of rogue agents acting on their own, for the approval to purchase weapons and sell them had to have come from people of import in the Obama regime. There is no way that “rogue” agents would do this on their own.

There is no doubt in my mind that this operation was not the result of “rogue” agents in the field, but rather the acts of a rogue and out of control federal government.

But the story doesn’t end there because of the manner in which the eventual whistleblower, John Dodson, ended up caught in the middle of this operation. John Dobson saw the potential problems with this operation and twice tried to get the federal government to move in and arrest those who were purchasing the weapons, but both requests were denied. If this were a legitimate sting operation that is exactly what would have happened, but this is not a legitimate sting operation and Dobson was overruled by his superior and the guns were allowed to walk untraced into Mexico.

According to sources directly involved in the case, Dodson felt strongly that the weapons should not be abandoned and the stash house should remain under 24-hour surveillance. However, Voth disagreed and ordered the surveillance team to return to the office. Dodson refused, and for six days in the desert heat kept the house under watch, defying direct orders from Voth.

A week later, a second vehicle showed up to transfer the weapons. Dodson called for an interdiction team to move in, make the arrest and seize the weapons. Voth refused and the guns disappeared with no surveillance.

It is now being reported that the reason Dobson was ordered to sell the weapons to the known drug lords is because he was “too clean” in this operation and needed to be dirtied up in order to keep him silent. If he was involved in this operation it was thought that he would have no choice but to keep his mouth shut.

This tells me that whomever (Eric Holder, Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, Timothy Geithner, and Janet Napolitano) signed off on this operation knew that is was suspect at best from the very beginning and went ahead with the operation anyway because, as we all know, the end justifies the means. If the federal government did not know about this operation until after the death of Brian Terry why did they make such an effort to involve everyone possible so that nobody would feel safe blowing the whistle on this operation?

“…rather the acts of a rogue and out of control federal government.”

You’ve got that right, Steve. Somewhere in my foggy memory I seem to remember read where agents supplied money directly to buyers. Whatever, this is one sick operation and I agree, this was not done without approvals from the highest levels.

The FBI had an agent in Mexico who was supplying the money to the drug lords. This is becoming more convoluted every day and there is no doubt that this was authorized from high above.

This administration is known for getting dirt on someone to keep them quiet (not unlike the Clinto administration). I would imagine that is what is gong on, that and moving people to new positions or promoting them to new areas. That our money was being used this way angers me and for it to be involved in deaths makes it twisted. Steve, as for you maybe not wanting to think that of our government, that is only natural, I think alot of us felt that way. Now we know better and will put nothing past them. I doubt they will ever put one over on any of us again, we now have their number and will not take anything at face value or take their word. From now on, we will question it. It is like me growing up with all brothers, I learned a little each time they pulled something on me, there was a point I was not gullible anymore. This is far more serious than that, but I was just using an analogy for a point.

It is sad that we have reached the point where we cannot trust anything this adminstration says or does, but that is where we are in this country right now. The Democrats promised to “drain the swamp” of corruption but this is turning into one of the biggest scandal in US history.

That kind of money couldn’t have come from a “rogue” operation. Holder knew, and I think he had Obama’s ok. All Issa has to do is come up with the smoking gun, no pun intended.

I believe that this administration thought they were above us in smarts. I think they figured it was going to be easy to pull a fast one and do this and then come in and take our guns away from us at some point. To them, it was probably a cut and dry operation that was going to have Americans crying out to be protected by our government and they were going to come riding in (for our safety) and do all the right things. Kind of like all the screenings at the airports now. Have they caught anyone during the screenings? I don’t think so, but they sure have made things a lot more complicated for us and they have slowly taken away our liberties. That is how it starts and it is a downward spiral after that. A little here a little there and pretty soon we have no rights (but it is for our own safety). I guess some people are gullible and take everything the government says at face value. They are a bunch of punks that think they know it all, we all knew kids like that in school, they seem to never have grown up. I know that is what I WANT in my White House running the show. Let us hope it goes all the way to the top with blame, get the place cleaned out and start to run things as they should be, by ADULTS.

It just keeps getting worse. This is totally criminal. I can’t believe heads haven’t rolled over this yet. Obama’s lucky he’s a Democrat.

Harrison, you have a point, had he been a Republican we know the MSM would be in full attack mode. Nothing in the administration is sane or rational, they have their orders and they just do what they are being told, I firmly believe that. There sure has been a big turn over in jobs, how many of the ones that were there at the beginning are still there?

Oh had he been a Republican we’d be looking at a new Attorney General, a full on investigation of the Executive Branch, and nightly “updates” from Pelosi and Reid.

Yep, he sure is lucky he has that “D” after his name, otherwise heads would have already rolled.
