Solargate: A second “green” company files for bankruptcy after receiving stimulus money

November 2, 2011

First came the Solyndra scandal, this was quickly followed by the SunPower, LightSquared, and Fisker scandals–all involving both the Obama regime’s green energy initiative and the stimulus bill. While these scandals are still swirling around the Obama regime yet another potential green energy scandal may be about to unfurl.

In addition to the Obama backed company Solyndra going bankrupt after receiving stimulus funds, a second Obama backed company has also gone bankrupt after receiving taxpayer dollars. Beacon Power received a $43 million loan guarantee–a mere pittance compared to Solyndra’s $500 million but not much less offensive–from the Obama regime only to subsequently file for bankruptcy shortly thereafter.

Two things are becoming more and more obvious to the observer of these scandals: first, these “green” energy companies are not sustainable on their own and need government subsidies just to survive (and even that isn’t enough to make these companies viable) because the technology is not there yet; and second, the Obama regime is so blinded with its support for this “green” energy initiative that it is throwing our money at these companies without first doing the proper legwork to ensure that our money is protected.

This is what happens when you hand the government a blank check. The government is not concerned about the money because it is not their money–it is our’s–so they feel as if they can take chances with the money that they wouldn’t take if they were spending their own money. This loss of money does not affect them in the pocketbook, it only affects their agenda and when the government does a risk analysis between losing money which does not belong to them and the possibility of pushing forward their agenda the agenda wins and the American taxpayer loses.

Personally I think these companies are only “fronts” to bring money in and funnel it elsewhere. I don’t think they were ever supposed to actually succeed.

These companies donate to the Democrats so I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that some of the money is being donated to Democrat candidates.

These companies were never strong enough to stand on their own but with political buddies in the WH they got their money and the taxpayer got the shaft.

You are right Harrison, there mere fact that the government must give them money is proof that they cannot make it on their own because the technology isn’t there. These companies may someday be viable if technology improves, but that doesn’t mean we should prop them up until that day comes.

At the root of these bad loans is cronyism, which is systemic throughout our government..

Consider also what just happened in a federal court in Texas. As explained in the article at http://www.wnd.com/?pageId=362537, a Dallas business owner was involved in a civil dispute and paid millions of dollars to lawyers, and when he objected to additional fees after settling the case, they had a “friendly” judge seize all of his possessions, without any notice or hearing, and essentially ordered him under “house arrest” as an involuntary servant to the lawyers. The business owner has been under this “servant” order for 10 months and is prohibited from owning any possessions, prohibited from working, etc..

I semi agree with Lou222. Maybe not fronts but as had been stated previously these people helped the Socialist government to come to power and these are nothing more than pay offs at the tax payers expense.

There is certainly a payoff happening here, and as I responded to Lou, I wouldn’t be surprised if some of this money was finding its way back to Democrat campaigns.

Only the beginning. Just wait until we find out about the money that went out the door on September 30. Billions upon billions to who knows who. Does anyone really care? No, they would rather burn down Oakland. Makes sense.

The sad part is that you are right, nobody cares and those in the Occupy crowd support this guy even though he embodies what they claim they are against.
