Why did Barack Obama award Siga with a $400 million no bid contract for a smallpox vaccine?
This is all the background you need about the story I am going to write about:
A company controlled by a longtime political donor gets a no-bid contract to supply an experimental remedy for a threat that may not exist.
Over the last year, the Obama administration has aggressively pushed a $433-million plan to buy an experimental smallpox drug, despite uncertainty over whether it is needed or will work.
Siga Technologies Inc. is a company which was trying to secure a $400 million contract with the United States government to supply an experimental smallpox vaccine in the event of a biological attack on the nation, but the company met resistance from the Department of Health and Human Services.
When Barack Obama heard about this resistance from within his own regime, he took steps to ensure that Siga would receive the contract:
When Siga complained that contracting specialists at the Department of Health and Human Services were resisting the company’s financial demands, senior officials replaced the government’s lead negotiator for the deal, interviews and documents show.
When Siga was in danger of losing its grip on the contract a year ago, the officials blocked other firms from competing.
Siga was awarded the final contract in May through a “sole-source” procurement in which it was the only company asked to submit a proposal. The contract calls for Siga to deliver 1.7 million doses of the drug for the nation’s biodefense stockpile. The price of approximately $255 per dose is well above what the government’s specialists had earlier said was reasonable, according to internal documents and interviews.
The Obama regime awarded Siga a no-bid contract and provided the company with the $400 million contract it so desired. But the drug is experimental and it isn’t sure whether the vaccine will work or not. Coupled with the fact that the United States already has enough proven vaccine stored to inoculate every single United States citizen in the event of a smallpox biological attack, one has to wonder why the Obama regime felt so strongly that Siga should receive this contract.
Enter into the story Ronald O. Perelman–a major Democrat contributor and a shareholder in Siga–and the picture becomes crystal clear. Barack Obama gave a political ally a $400 million contract to a company for a drug which may not work, and for a threat which does not exist, and he did it to help a friend at the expense of the taxpayers.
Of course, Barack Obama will likely blame President Bush for this, siting a Bush report that there was a possible threat that smallpox could be used as a weapon, but that does not excuse him from the fact that the United States already has enough vaccine on hand and doesn’t need additional vaccine–especially of the experimental type.
No-bid contracts and crony capitalism are two practices that Barack Obama promised to end if he became president, but it has become clear that both are still being practiced within the Obama regime.

I just read that article a few minutes ago. What difference does it make if the Bush folks thought there was a potential threat or not. That is no reason to go with this project and certain not sole bid to a crony Democrat donor.

Steve, I think all you need to do from now on with these companies is have a generic explanation already made up and copy and paste it on your blog. Same type of company, same type of people, same political party??? They are all starting to sound the same, aren’t they? Have your copy/paste ready to go, there will probably be more surfacing.

Cronyism in our government is the most insidious form of corruption, and this is just another example.
Consider also what just happened in a federal court in Texas. In this case, As described at http://LawInjustice.com , a Dallas business owner was involved in a civil dispute and paid millions of dollars to lawyers, and when he objected to additional fees after settling the case, they had a “friendly” judge, appointed by President Clinton, seize all of his possessions, without any notice or hearing, and essentially ordered him under “house arrest” as an involuntary servant to the lawyers and denied a jury trial. The business owner has been under this “servant” order for 10 months and is prohibited from owning any possessions, prohibited from working, etc..

Ah, here is another example of check the semantics. He didn’t promise to “end the use of no-bid contracts”, he promised to “end the abuse of no-bid contracts”.
Again I say, what ever comes out of his mount — he really means the opposite.

Amen brother! We have gotten so used to the fact that this type of behavior is normal that the American people no longer feel as if this is wrong. This allows the government to get away with things that they wouldn’t have been able to get away with just a few short years ago. If this is allowed to go on unchallenged we will one day look back and wonder how we allowed this to happen.

Prediction. There will be a GM small pox attack by “al ciada” or the tea party or Iran and it just so happens SIGA has an “experimental” vaccine that we all need to purchase (remember H1N1?) or else. Pay no attention to all the politicians who have stock in SIGA. It’s purely coincidence 😉

Maybe Dear Leader is right and we have become lazy, but not for the reason he believes. Perhaps because we have allowed the government to get away with this for so long we have become lazy in fighting against this abusive government. That is about to change…..at least I hope so!

Sadly he will never be impeached because the Democrats control the Senate. We will have a chance to change that in 2012, but hopefully it will be a moot point because we will send Obama back into the private sector.

The Big Picture tells me that the Presidency, while being noteworthy, is not the solution. It all comes down to Congress.

I agree, while the presidency is important it is also important to win back the Senate and hold onto the House. If we do this it will make Obama irrelevant even if he does win reelection.
