Claire McCaskill calls for an investigation into the Obama regime’s decision to award Siga a no bid contract for an unneeded vaccine

November 25, 2011

In an attempt to promote his unsustainable green energy initiative Barack Obama has become embroiled in several scandals involving taxpayer funded stimulus loans to companies which were deemed to be high risk ventures. Because of this millions of taxpayer dollars have been wasted while Democrat donors–who just happened to have interests in these companies–had their investments protected. There is no telling how much of this money was funnelled back into the campaign coffers of Democrats who are running for reelection.

While this reeks of crony capitalism it is not the most glaring example of wasted stimulus money and crony capitalism; the most glaring example of this fraud does not involve a green energy company, that distinction belongs to a company named Siga. Siga was a company which was looking to secure a $400 million stimulus loan and when it became evident that the loan would not be granted Barack Obama awarded the company with a no bid contract to ensure the company received the money it so desired.

was awarded a $400 million loan to produce an experimental vaccine for a threat which does not exist–a smallpox outbreak–and even if the United States was hit with a biological smallpox attack there are already enough vaccinations in reserve to treat every single American citizen, so no matter how you cut it this was something that was not needed and shouldn’t have been awarded.

Why then did the Obama regime feel so strongly about this product that it issued a no bid contract for the vaccine to Siga? Siga is owned by a billionaire who happens to be–you guessed it–a major contributor to Barack Obama and the Democrat party. This is crony capitalism at its worst, and this is a practice that Barack Obama promised to end if he became president; we all remember Halliburton and Black Water don’t we?

This latest scandal has drawn the ire of both Republicans and some Democrats, the latest being Claire McCaskill who just happens to chair the Senate Subcommittee on Contracting and Oversight. Claiming that she has “serious concerns” about this scandal she is calling for an investigation into this matter.

She has asked the Department of Health and Human Services to investigate the Obama regime’s decision to award a no bid contract to Siga for a drug which was not needed, and while one could legitimately claim that this is all simply political posturing because HHS is working for the Obama regime it is interesting to note that HHS was originally resisting this monetary request before Siga was awarded a no bid contract. HHS might not be so willing to ignore this usurpation of its authority.

This abuse of power and waste of taxpayer money is so egregious that even Democrats cannot ignore it–especially in an election year–and this has the potential of becoming a major issue as we move forward. This is they type of corruption that the American people are sick and tired of, and I can only hope that HHS will conduct a serious inquiry into this abuse of power and fraudulent expenditure of taxpayer money.

It seems to me that McCaskill’s request highlights just how troubling some of these scandals are. Some of the Democrats even have problems with them.

Poor Claire… any port in a storm. She could have cared less if she were not up for re-election. I believe it was Fox who reported that ABC had done just two stories on Solyndra. So lots of luck getting any coverage on this little adventure.

I wasn’t sure if she was up for reelection but I kind of figured she was because if she wasn’t I am sure she would have remained silent.

The level of corruption and cronyism in our country is starting to resemble that of Nigeria or a banana republic.

Consider also what just happened in a federal court in Texas where a trustee was appointed. As described at http://LawInjustice.com, a Dallas business owner was involved in a civil dispute and paid millions of dollars to lawyers, and when he objected to additional fees after settling the case, they had a “friendly” judge, appointed by President Clinton, seize all of his possessions, without any notice or hearing, and essentially ordered him under “house arrest” as an involuntary servant to the lawyers. The business owner has been under this “servant” order for 10 months and is prohibited from owning any possessions, prohibited from working, etc..

…and some quotes from the judge:

THE COURT: “I’m telling you don’t scr-w with me. You are a fool, a fool, a fool, a fool to scr-w with a federal judge, and if you don’t understand that, I can make you understand it. I have the force of the Navy, Army, Marines and Navy behind me.”

THE COURT: “You realize that order is an order of the Court. So any failure to comply with that order is contempt, punishable by lots of dollars, punishable by possible jail, death”

The Bush administration flat out loses 10s of billions of dollars and that’s okay with you right-wingers, but now you’re concerned with corruption? Ha! Just slightly hypocritical.

I was 15 when Bush left office, so I don’t remember much from his administration. I wasn’t paying attention to what was going on, let alone voicing an opinion. My political awareness grew as Obama took power, so that’s where I direct my criticism.

I don’t see anyone here defending Bush, and you certainly won’t see me defending his spending, but we need to address this problem moving forward before it is too late.

Scandals like this are to be expected with the economic policy this administration has adopted, where the government tries to outsmart the market. Policy makers spending taxpayer dollars don’t respond to the same kinds of incentives as private individuals spending their own money. The decisions they make don’t affect them in a profound way.

Exactly Jack, if it were there own money on the line we know they would be much more careful with what they did with it.

    1) Is there any evidence that Obama himself was directing the decision for the no-bid contract or was it just a decision made within HHS? Is there a distinction being made here?

    2) Has it been considered that Siga may have been the best qualified facility to handle the extreme security measures required for research with the smallpox virus and the associated antiviral production? And is this the reason why a no-bid contract direction was taken, so that there wouldn’t a need to waste taxpayer’s money reanalyzing various facilties’ resources to accommidate the specific requirements for this research everytime the contract comes up?

    Have these things been considered?
