Defense bill will allow United States citizens to be held at GITMO without trial
When Barack Obama was running for the office he currently holds he stated on many occasions that GITMO was being used by Jihadists as a recruiting tool and he also said that GITMO was the antithesis of what America stood for and lowered our standing in the world. Barack Obama promised that he would shut down GITMO if he were elected, and on his first day in office he signed an Executive Order which demanded the closing of the prison camp.
There was one slight problem with this Executive Order; he signed the order without first coming up with a plan about what was to be done with the prisoners who were still held there. The Executive Order carried no weight if there was nothing that could be done with the prisoners and once the Obama regime felt the backlash from its decision to try Khalid Shaikh Mohammed in a civilian court in New York City the regime jettisoned the idea and GITMO remains open to this day.
Recently I wrote a post about how Barack Obama’s lawyers have declared that citizens of the United States are legitimate military targets even if they are on American soil, and the recently passed defense authorization bill basically defines the United States homeland as a battlefield and gives the president the authority to use the military against American citizens.
But according to the article I linked to above, the bill goes further than this. Barack Obama has this little prison camp in Cuba but there really aren’t that many enemy combatants there anymore, so why not put the vacancies to good use? This bill has the potential to do just that, and Barack Obama has flip flopped and is expected to sign this bill into law shortly.
The defense authorization bill will give the president the authority to use the military in any case where an American citizen is thought to be plotting with terrorists, even on American soil–these cases have generally fallen under the responsibility of the FBI and DHS, but not any more. This bill also gives the United States government the authority to hold certain Americans indefinitely and without charges, and yes, it could actually be used to increase the census at GITMO.
United States citizens could actually be subjected to the very same rules of engagement that the Obama regime felt was unfair to foreigners who were caught while fighting against the United States on the battlefield overseas.
I have maintained the position that people like the Shoe Bomber, the Underwear Bomber, the Times Square Bomber, and the Fort Hood killer–while being traitors to this country–are American citizens who plotted against the United States and were captured on American soil, as such they still deserve constitutional protections and have the right to a trial. If they are found guilty they should be hanged. But apparently the Obama regime does not feel this way, nor does the House or the Senate, and for the first time in American history the government of the United States has basically decided that certain Americans can be labeled as enemy combatants and have their constitutional rights taken away.
At this point I think it necessary to remind everyone that Joe Biden and other Democrats likened the Tea Party to terrorists, and DHS released the infamous “right wing terrorist” report; in the end who decides who the domestic terrorists are?
